In that case, shouldn't Beats 1 be the mainstream Top 40 radio then? That's how the BBC categorized it.
Maybe. I don't know. I'm just speculating. For now, they only have one station. If they had more, maybe things would change.

Either way, they need more stations, for sure, or at least a variety of shows. The problem is, they're trying to be more main stream world wide.

Judging by the tracks Zane played yesterday, I think only Eddy Cue was thrilled.

Dude. Royal Blood was AWESOME. Awesome sound from an awesome band.

Agreed, you can listen it it right now on Apple Music, I'm gonna hit play, you know what it's gonna sound like.

Seriously, listen to Beats1 now, it's like I'm on a farmers truck, listening to some country music. Not working as a mainstream radio dude.

According to the Verge they're already doing replays.

It's a little confusing because at WWDC Apple billed it as 24/7, and though they didn't actually use the word live I think that was the impression most people got. Who cares if it's 24/7 if 12 of the 24 hours are just replays of the previous 12 hours.

I rarely listen to local radio stations anymore. Do Clear Channel/iHeart Radio stations do replays during the day or middle of the night? How about BBC Radio stations?

Beats 1 is not going to play repeats. That's just in the first days, all the DJs are not even set yet. Dr Dre is coming in 3 days (a show called "The Pharmacy"), Drake, Pharrell ("OTHERtone"), Elton John ("Elton John's Rocket Hour"), ect... are all going to have their own shows. Even Vice is going to have a show. Right now I believe there's only 3 main DJs so obviously they're not going to be live 24/7 at the moment. They have a page showing when the shows are going to become available. Like Dr. Dre's show start on July 4.www.beats1radio.com <-- check out the lineup

Besides that gives everybody in the world a chance to listen to what they have since not everyone was able to listen to the first days with the DJ's available right now. According to the DJ in London, Apple has a shiny new studio with all new equipment there, and they have 1 in NY and LA, so yea it looks like it's just the beginning of something bigger.

I dont really understand how Apple is calling this the first 24/7 live radio. Do other countries not have iHeart Radio app? That plays actual radio stations from different cities. Wouldn't that be more live radio?
Even most modern local stations put the computer to play automatically at night... The Beats 1 is going to be fully 24/7 once all the DJs come in. Apple made that clear posting the line up on beats1radio.com They have 3 studios (LA, NY, London) I doubt that other stations are going to be anywhere close to the amount of listeners Beats 1 is going to bring.

Smooth Jazz 24/7 is the same. They have it live from I think 9 AM EDT to 9 PM EDT then they repeat it again at night. Also even FM stations here in the states are not really live all the time.

I agree with some of the later posts, it's on repeat right now since it's still not 100% set up. On the official Beats 1 page you can see they're bringing in a lot of guest DJs in the next few days that will definitely make it more lively.

They should do what HBO and Showtime do and offer different feeds for each time zone. For example, HBO West is the west coast feed of HBO and HBO East is the east coast feed of HBO. That way you can have programs start at the same time across all time zones. I don't think it would be that hard to do (just check what the local time is on the device and supply that particular feed when they access Beats 1).

Yeah, the repeating every 12 hours is starting to get on my nerves. It's annoying to listen to Julie Adenuga at 8pm, go to bed about 11, wake up, listen to Beats 1 on the way to work and.... it's Julie Adenuga at 8am. The exact same show I listened to last night.

I just am sick of every radio station being rap/pop/country..We need some good hard rock stations...

Did you really expect the first flagship radio station from apple to be all hard rock?
Also, they DO play rock on this station...
Maybe once this one takes off, they will add more stations focused on other stuff.

And Beats 1 (which is very similar to BBC Radio 1) is 10 times better than the average top 40 stations here in the states.

Also, the station is new. I would expect them to repeat the shows later so others can hear it (at least for now).

Something they could easily do is a time delayed broadcast based on your timezone, so you're always listening to the time appropriate shows. Isn't this what some American satellite radio services do for their broadcasts of BBC etc?

Or heck; given BBC seems to be the "gold standard" for radio why not offer a catchup service so you can listen to a DJs show when you want within 24 hours or so of the broadcast occurring! - That's how I catch up with Grimmy on R1 when doing my morning commute when away from home in the Middle East! Just an idea :)
