So Besides the price are you dissapointed in lack of updates?

ok so i bought this the first day so I got screwed out of 200 dollars.


I am more dissapointed by the lack of anythign that was done as far as a REAL iphone update

I mean no features were added except a FN starbucks button? and a way for me to give them more money?

I mean how about those endless lists of bugs and features we shoudl have already?

I mean come on, I dont even think I will update my phone. I will keep my jailbreaked phones with tons of 3rd party apps.

Apple is trying to sell more phones than concentrate on the nearly 1 million customers of it they already have.

Ridiculous
 
I agree. I am really surprised that nothing decent has been pushed yet. Or Maybe thats why they dropped it $200. Maybe we're not gonna see iChat, MMS, Mail fixes, etc. Its obvious we'll get something this month with the Wi-Fi store but I am not holding my breath that there will be anymore then that.

The over-the-air iTunes and ringtones are kind of nice (even though the charge stinks). The latter was probably easy to do, but I suspect the former may not have been quite as easy.

Anyway, it's only been... what? two months? Just because no major updates have come so far, doesn't mean they won't.

Personally, I'm hoping for an SDK, MMS, iChat/AIM, and on-iPhone file management; as a developer, I'll buy the rumors that the latter is waiting on Leopard.

Given that the new iPod is basically an iPhone minus the phone part, I suspect this is coming. The existing iPods have games, and there's no way the new ones won't -- but maybe the software for this isn't ready yet. Apple can't change the APIs as easily once third partys are plugged in.
 
They gave us the ringtone feature. But they better increase the volume so we can hear the phone ring.
 
Maybe they have been holding off the next 'big' update to the iPhone firmware because it would contain some of the new features in the iPod, and if it came out before the announcement it would let the cat out of the bag. I would think the iPhone would have the same Starbucks / wireless iTunes update that the iPod has.
 
Honestly? I don't think Apple is going to update the iphone dramatically through their updates. Maybe they'll add some features to mirror what's coming out in the ipod touch, but don't expect anything exciting. Just my opinion.
 
Yep, pretty disappointed that only new revenue streams for aapl were announced. I get that it's a business, but I expected more....widgets, apps, anything. I love Apple because they aren't always looking for new ways to get my money, and that seems to be changing, or it's becoming more prevelant anyway.
 
Now that the iPhone price has been lowered to $399, just wait. In two months iPhone 2 will be on the market for $149 with a whole lot more new features. Then, who will be pissed?
 
I'm surprised that they updated anything. It hasn't even been out 3 months yet.
 
It sounds like they didnt do as great in sales as they thought if they had to lower the price 2 months in.

I dont care about the price but I mean fixes and glitches should at least be worked on.

I work in software development and fixes and bugs are worked on before features.

I mean starbucks thing? wtf is that anything more than money grubbing?
 
The ringtone feature is an absolute insult.

EVERYONE with an iPhone that cares about ringtones at all knows ( and probably already used) the FREE, non-hacking tools that are already available.

Truthfully, anyone who uses the ringtone feature in iTunes should have their head examined.
 
Perhaps people should remember that Apple is a business, publicly owned, with a responsibility to make a profit. The iPhone does what it did when you bought it, and the bug list is surprisingly small for such a sophisticated product in a new-for-them field.

I don't understand the anger at them announcing new revenue streams. Nor do I understand the anger at them not adding new features which were never promised.

Anyone who bought the iPhone, especially Rev. A on Day One, had to know they were paying an early adopter tax. Today's announcements simply add new ways for Apple to get revenue. Shocking they'd do that, and shocking people will go for it. :rolleyes:

I mean simple things like that would have been nice.

How about allowing me to flip the keyboard horizontally in mail? Sync Notes....yeah

So what would have been your LEGAL solution? Should Apple give them away for free???

Yes, these would all be nice features... but how many of you have bought other phones where the manufacturer added significant feature updates within a few months of launch? How many of you have even upgraded the firmware in any other phone? Few, I'd guess.

They're working to get Leopard out. Then they'll work on the iPhone. I'm sure the feature additions and bug fixes will come.

Since the ring tones are 30 seconds or less, I'm not even sure what the legal implications of putting your own ringtones on your own phone would be. I understand Apple's revenue stream, and I strongly suspect a kickback to AT&T that was promised on ringtones. Still, I agree that free tools to add ringtones will probably take a fair bite out of this new service. Had the ringtones been $0.25 or even $0.50, it might be different, but to pay the same price to hear the same song - well, only 30 seconds of it - seems like a bit of a hard sell except, I guess, for people that only want one or two and figure the ease is worth the cost.
 
i was already happy with the feature set of the iphone, and i'm looking forward to the wifi itunes store. the only thing i really really want is a chat client, and i'll be happy for the remainder of my iphone's life.

How about do what I don't know how many other cell phone manufacturers do? Just give their customers the capability to add what sounds they wish? I've been able to do it with every phone I've owned in the past 7 years, be it Samsung, SE, Nokia, or even Motorola....just crop an MP3 and move it onto the phone. Nice, simple, sweet. And because I can do it right now with songs I've legally purchased from ANY source (be it online or from CD), Apple's efforts end up looking both abysmally amateurish AND for no other reason than to make a fast buck.

It's funny that for all the brouhaha over the $200 thing (I'm miffed but hey, nobody said life's fair!), this is what has me truly steamed: that groups of people that some (including apple) would label as criminals are doing a HELL of a lot better job in raising the quality of the iPhone experience than Apple's own engineers seem to be capable of. In 2 months have Apple given us any major new features? Nup. But these 'hackers' have brought us file system access, massive customization, installation capability, third party apps that don't require airtime or a connection to the net to utilize, and a host of other features. That is sad, bordering on pathetic, and honestly not what I expected of Apple.
 
Anyone expecting a hardware update on the iPhone was just crazy. I did not expect much. I did expect that if they were going to release this wifi music store that they would have had an update ready for the iPhone. Bad planning in my eyes.
 
I would have to agree with most of the posters that what Apple did today was a unfair. There have been so many requests for just an update to correct software omissions, such as the multiple email deletion problem, that I find it to be understanble but also insulting that Apple would release new features which stand to generate the company additional revenue PRIOR to correcting and addressing the numerous emails with customer feedback that they must have been deluged with since lauch.

And to charge $200 less for the same product that was available 2 months prior is nearly unheard of historically for Apple and possibly the industry as far as I can recall. I could understand a price drop after 6 months or so, but cmon, if the thing was selling as much as expected, would they really cut the price so quickly? Logic says no. So I am not mad at all that I paid the additional money to get the unit on launch day at all, I just feel that it is unfair to alot of the Apple loyalists who waited in line to get their latest invention. And to discontinue the 4 gig unit after only 2 months? If they had no intention of selling it for a normal product cycle, they should have never released it at all(I have the 8 gig and love it).

I suspect that it has something to do with 2 things: 1. less than expected sales, especially with the 4 gig units, and a need to meet analysts expectations. 2. the fact that when the unit was announced in january until lauch day, new flash drive modules became available and made the 4 gig units essentially obsolite by what is available currently. Hense, the new touch screen units only come in 8 gig or 16 gig choices.
