but how many of you have bought other phones where the manufacturer added significant feature updates within a few months of launch? How many of you have even upgraded the firmware in any other phone? Few, I'd guess.

Yeah, well most cell phone manufacurers dont broadcast "easy upgradability" as one of the selling points for their phone!

This is all besides the point...it didn't say on the iPhone box "iPod will crash evertime you use safari." (Trust me, if it did I would not have bought it).

People aren't pissed that Apple is trying to make money, we're pissed that they are finding ways to increase their revenue stream in advance of fixing these MAJOR bugs! (Ipod crashing is a MAJOR bug)

I'm glad they haven't released updates for every nuance of the iPhone. It's a pain to restore every time after hacking it up so I'll gladly stick to monthly updates they've done so far.

thank god someone else mentioned this. i said this in another thread about this very same thing. yes wireless syncing would be nice but only if it was as fast as the wired sync.

So then be smart about it. Have an option to not sync multimedia data over bluetooth, just PIM info and possibly small ringtones.

No.

Your level of disappointment is directly correlated to how soon and how often you THOUGHT they would update.

I didn't expect any updates, and still don't. When they come, that's great, but it's not like I'm checking every week for an update.

i would love updates as much as anyone but at least we have a phone that can be updated period...;)

Last phone I owned that couldn't be updated was a Motorola StarTac on Verizon Wireless that must have been 9-10 years ago. I had a Samsung i600 smarphone with both firmware and OS updates, a Motorola Razr with several firmware updates, and a Motorola A1200 with several firmware updates. In each case the updates provided both bug fixes and some additional functionality. And comparing, Apple is running about average on updating. With all those phones the 'average' time between updates was 2-3 months.

To me the big difference is that with Apple, they tell you up front about released updates AND you just load iTunes to get them. With all my other phones if you weren't a cellphone web junkie (guilty) you'd never know about them, much less be able to actually find the firmware, find the software to install the firmware, and then find the instructions of how to update it. In that arena Apple DEFINITELY got it right.
