New iLife 09 and iWork 09? Yeah, like the annual update was a surprise. Some nice new features, though.

New 17" MBP? *Yawn* Apple told us they'd introduce it this year, last year!

iTunes Plus across the board? Nobody saw that one coming!

I've said it 3 times, but will say it again. There is a FINANCIAL CRISIS going on. World resources are becoming CHEAPER as demand goes DOWN. Yet apple releases software (it is cool) and an update to an already small market expensive macbook pro! I just don't really understand!!!

Plus I'm bitter. Where's my mac mini!!

The new MBP should have been released with the MBs last year and boy did they just KILL the secondhand market for these new MBPs because of the non-user-removal battery !!

And it doesn't even have a Blu Ray player!!!!!

I've disassembled 4 different generations of Apple laptops and replaced parts, so this "non removable" battery business doesn't scare me at all. Less convenient? Yes, but not a deal-breaker.

And, no, I still don't care too much about Blu-Ray. It's only the "standard" because Sony says so. It may be the future, but who's in a rush? Half the people with Blu-ray players probably still use DVDs 99% of the time anyway. If you bought a Blu-Ray player just so you could watch Hancock or some other crap film you've wasted your money.

I wonder if Apple intentionally held back revised iMacs and Mac minis from MWSF just to spite IDG. Bet we'll see a self-hosted Apple event within the next month to roll them out.

I don't care all that much about watching Blu-ray movies but burning data to 1 BR disc as opposed to 5 DVDs (or 3 DL DVDs) would be nice. Burning HD copies of my company's HD projects would be nice too instead of SD DVDs up-converted on HDTVs. Jobs' decision to hamstring Mac users because he sees Blu-ray's movie distribution as a competitor to iTMS and TV is more than a bit irritating (especially for professional users). Apple was ahead of the curve with the SuperDrive, iDVD and DVD Studio Pro but now...

Why is everyone so worked up about the lack of mini/iMac updates? These don't require keynote time. They can be updated on some random Tuesday later on. Same goes for the Mac Pro. Apple has done this in the past.

Every year there is thread after thread on how "This was the worst keynote ever!" Just goes to show you can't please everyone.

Maybe Apple's waiting for Snow Leopard to be finished so they can release the desktops with it pre-installed. That way instead of claiming a ##% speed increase from the processors, they can combine it with SL's speed and it would look like a much faster system for the same price. Plus it would suck to buy a new model and then have to pay for the new OS that comes out right after it.

I don't know about you lot but I'm very happy about iMovie '09, this makes a great video editer perfect; the effects and features of iMovie HD with the amazing UI of iMovie '08

I take your point. My beef is more with consumers who know they need Blu-Ray but don't know why. Professionals are much more likely to make use of the speed and capacity advantages at this time. As for Jobs' decision to keep Blu-Ray out of Macs because of perceived conflicts with the current business model, well, that's an unfortunate side-effect of the Steve Jobs revolution, one fundamental to Apple as we know it and one unlikely to go away any time soon. I don't like it, but I don't see it changing.

Just trying to be a little optimistical.
I guess we can only hope for April.
Maybe we will get a few unexpected keynotes now that Apple is probably going to start hosting more of their own events instead of relying on third party ones.

It's a brand new side effect though. A few years ago Apple actually touted being the first desktop to be able to burn HD-DVDs (albeit in a limited fashion) using DVD Studio Pro and a SuperDrive. It's discouraging to see Apple turning into a company like Sony that feels the need hamstringing itself because it has its fingers in so many different pies. Apple used to take advantage of situations like this and now Apple is setting itself up to get taken advantage of. I'm starting to see some FC Studio users grumbling about Apple and eyeballing CS4 the same way that years ago I saw Avid users grumbling about Avid and eyeballing FCP. In the past year or so both Avid and Adobe have been moving forward while Apple seems to be more or less resting on its laurels. I hope that at NAB this year FC gets a jaw dropping update but I'm not going to hold my breath.
