so do you think the iphone5 puts the galaxy s3 to shame?

Personally, I couldn't care less. The S3 is not the bar I measure my happiness with. The iPhone does what I want, simple as that. If others prefer the S3, more power to them.
It seems to be a solid alternative to me but I wouldn't say it blows it away. I would be able to see someone choosing the S3 over the iPhone 5 but for me personally the iPhone 5 is just a better fit.
NO, and this is from a person buying the iphone5. It's a personal choice, do you want a really big screen, are you willing to re-purchase your apps, are you already too deep into the apple ecosystem etc... For me, the iPhone is best choice since i love the size (i thought 3.5 inch screen was fine), i have too many apple things already, and i don't find it useful to switch to android (I like being able to jailbreak my iPhone and get the power of people who make those non-apple customizations)
Buddy at work has one and I will say that the size / form factor is way better than just a taller iphone. It's so damn light even with a case on it that I'm jealous of that. I can't effectively put my 4s in a shirt pocket and not feel like I'm not carrying a rock.
OS wise, meh....it does more out of the gate, looks cool, can be easily customized....you'd adapt. The only downside thus far, according to him, is battery life. I think it's the LTE connection though.

No, it's called Samsung building a cheap phone because that's all they know how to do.
Take a look at the HTC One X or the Nokia Lumia line, well built, great looking durable phones that do not feel like they came free in a box of cereal.
And the S3 doesn't even perform well in drop tests, it's still a glass screen after all.

Agreed. I've never liked that cheap plastic feel of Samsung devices. When I used androids I always used other vendors such as htc instead.
I think the phones match up pretty good. Here is a comparison graph. I just gave my 4s to my father and purchased the S3. The only things I miss are software related. As far as the hardware goes, the phone performs and is a solid build. Does not "feel" as heavy duty as the One X but it offers some advantages over the One X.

I think the S3 is cool for a moment but it will sizzle out eventually. The iPhone 5 will be going strong for a while.
And to be honest, comparing Android phones to Apple is like comparing a Hyundai (Android) with a Honda (Apple).
Apple will blow it away in overall quality and customer satisfaction, not to mention resale value.

Ahhh, so easy to spot envy. I do love the brainwashed Apple fans that can't even see through their own hypocrisy. So Samsung only knows how to build a cheap phone? Guess that is why Apple buys around 7 billion dollars worth of Samsung screens, chips, etc, right? Approx 25% of an iPhone is actually Samsung. But I agree. The iPhone is a cheap piece of junk phone.

The iPhone 5 the mostly the same as the S3. Can't say which one is better. I am buying neither of them though, my 4S is still good and with iOS 6 it is getting a huge improvement.
You don't even need to compare the iPhone 5 to any other phone to see that it's disappointing. in general, the iPhone by itself is one aspect of Apple I can't get behind. It's heralded as the best or smartest phone, yet it's so limited.
I happily and strongly recommend Apple to my friends for their computer, tablet, and sometimes even accessory needs. But the iPhone I couldn't endorse with an honest face. It would simply be disingenuous.

I disagree with you and apparently there are a few million others also. I am not going to sing the praises of the S3 to someone who obviously dislikes the phone. That is like trying to convince some a**hat pro life politician (male) from the perspective of the female victim that pro choice is a viable and fair option.
Religion, politics and Apple fanatics just can't be reasoned with. And I don't mean to the extent that I can change your minds, just to the extent that you can have a neutral, non offensive based conversation on a different option than you would prefer without having to use insults or such.
I digress... my point is that iPhone5 has merely caught up (in features) to Android.
It's like your favourite athlete who is running behind all of the runners, you cheer him/her on, knowing that she/he won't finish first, HOWEVER, you know that when he/she crosses that finish line that it will be done with flair and showmanship.
Ergo, I am certain that Apple, although they have waited a whole year, have finally met the current mobile phone requirements and desires (they in no way, have exceeded them), and done so with their particular flair and attention to detail. Hopefully ensuring that the device will perform excellently.
Really? I was hit by a guy on a bicycle the other day just as a took out my S3 - it went flying about 15 feet from me onto the concrete road. I picked it up and dusted it off - its got three dings in it , one on each corner but otherwise undamaged.

I don't either phone puts either to shame. They are separate, but equal.

I had S3 a few days ago. Completely disappointed with Android, too many confusing settings and they are all over the place, it's a mess. The phone is loaded with bloated apps that I don't need and you cannot remove them unless rooted. Stock apps like Mail and browser are nothing like iOS. Not polished at all. After installing many apps it keeps crashing with com.google.app notice. Already went back to iPhone. Learned my lesson.
