I never had a feature phone with such flexible plastic. Doing what that picture shows to the battery door on my T610 or W810i would result in breaking both.

Bendiness is negative... really, durable plastic that can be bent and retake its shape with no apparent damage is negative...

Where do you people come from ?

I did not mean to say that the pictured plastic was in any way cheap. I merely offering an explanation for some members' dislike of the use plastic in phones.

I don't think the Foxconn exec is going to give an unbiased opinion of the iPhone 5 which his company builds and the SGS3 which his company doesn't build. Even if he thinks the iPhone 5 is a piece of crap, he is going to hype it as much as he can because it makes his company money.

Regarding the feel of the phone, it is purely subjective. Personally, I have no issue with the build material of any phone I have ever used. For modern smartphones, it has to do what I need it to do. I've never picked up a modern smartphone and rejected it because of the material. Regardless of the surface material, it is secondary to the function of the phone unless you treat it like a fashion item like my wife. If that suits your fancy, that's fine. Go with whatever material you like. I don't buy a phone for how it feels in my hand.

I got an SGS3 a couple of months ago. There wasn't anything in the iP5 announcement that would make me switch even if I could swap it for free. I like my widgets too much and using an iOS device would feel very limiting.

I don't think the iP5 announcement is aimed at Android users. It is aimed at existing iPhone users and people who are just getting into the market for a smartphone. It's the annual hype for a popular device.

What's that smell? I think someone got burned! :D

While I'm sure the iPhone is a fine phone, really it puts itself to shame. Same design. Specs that have been there already with other phones. Apple had a chance to blow Samsung away and make them ****, but they didn't.

One, that image isn't mine, it was a bit of humor thrown to the trolls.

Next, with all the hate being expressed towards the new iP5, I think most of it is misplaced hate from people who lack an understanding of how to market and drive long term success. Offer the steak one bite at a time, not the whole thing. I also think it's a lack of understanding that while the iPod back in 2001 and iPhone in 2007 were revolutionary products, not every release is going to be that. What we're in the midst of are evolutionary products.

No doubt the above is a result of the information age of instant gratification we live in today shaping the expectations of many. What do you mean the next iPhone is just an evolution of a terrific market changing product? <scoff> How dare Apple do that to us. They must be failing.

I think the iPhone 5 puts the Galaxy S3 to shame. Absolutely. That being said, I think most high end smartphones put the Galaxy S3 to shame.

i keep reading how cool the S3 is but then i read the comments in a droid life story this morning and people are complaining about wifi, GPS losing connection and other issues

It is a good thing there are no comments about problems with iPhones here. It's so refreshing.

Yeah, smaller screen and less features. iPhone kills it.. not to mention most the features they announced for the iPhone 5, the Galaxy Nexus had... in 2011..

Also, adding Passbook without NFC is rather a fail. It's like a car without gas.

Less hardcore features, but all the main features are done far better than the shoddy, half-baked features of Android phones. And I like a wieldable phone, 4.8 is too big.

I merely offering an explanation for some members' dislike of the use plastic in phones.

The explanation is simple : Apple doesn't use plastic in phones (well, it doesn't anymore starting this year since the 3GS is now discontinued as of... well... today) so plastic is bad.

Really, nothing wrong with plastic. Apple used it past, they're now on a aluminum/glass fetish. When they go back to plastic, we'll hear all about how revolutionary plastic is, a real "space-age" material. ;)

How so? And try to be intelligent as well as knowledgeable when you say so. I've had many apple products and will bet my iPad 3 that your reasons are going to be garbage.

BAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Thanks bud, I needed a good laugh today. Ignorance of others isn't usually a funny thing to me, but I'm gonna make an exception just for you. Only because your post was beyond ignorant.

Seeing as how my answer was a personal opinion, expect my reasons to be subjective. The iPhone 5 looks, feels, and is a more premium device. From the choice of materials to the level of polish and detail, it screams high-end. iOS is also undoubtedly better than TouchWiz, which looks mediocre and gimmicky, and adds nothing to Android but slower system updates and ugly skinning. Beyond that, iOS offers far more ease-of-use, an unassailable App and iTunes Store, better support, and has several advantages over Android. Some swear by Android's customization and features, but all I see is a bigger learning curve, more time spent trying to tweak the phone to work ideally, and some niche features like widgets, peripherals, removable batteries, and microSD cards. I'm sorry, but those features are hardly compelling. Apple's ecosystem is vastly superior to Android's, and has integration with iWork and iLife (I use GarageBand). As a whole, I feel iOS is just a much better mobile OS, though I still see the merits of Android and WP8.

Nahh, that's too easy. I could say the holocaust never happened. And then say it was just my viewpoint and continue to tell you, "to each his own, good day sir." But it would still be an ignorant thing to say. Know what I mean Vern?

TW is a launcher. Don't like it?Niether do I. I replaced the whole ROM with jellybean, turned off the capacitive touch keys, made the physical button a camera shortcut, and added onscreen nav buttons. On top of that, my GS3 has an app drawer that IS iOS! How is this crap?

Can the iPhone do ANY of those things?

OH, and I just turned on wifi WITHOUT going into the settings and LOOKING for it! TADAMN!

I'm the swagman.

You think when I buy a phone I want root it, install custom ROMs, and do all that? No. That's the fundamental difference between Android and iOS users. iOS works almost exactly the way I want it right out of the box, Android rarely does. So much for "intelligent" responses, eh? Your answer is obnoxiously defensive. And to that other guy with the poor analogy: my opinion is well reasoned, and I'm not just spitting out mindless posts. You have the right to disagree.

Too big for you maybe and just because you think it is too big certainly isnt reason enough to say any high end smartphone is better than the S3. The S3 is still better than the the iP5 in many ways. If you prefer a small screen,....great. It still doesnt have the features the S3 does.

Lets just face it...if it wasnt made by Apple and have their logo, hardly anyone would even buy it nowadays against the other phones out there.

The S3 doesn't have any noteworthy features that aren't normal Android functionality. And your final comment is just so wrong. Apple markets well, but they've earned their reputation after years of innovation, support, and awesome products. The iPhone 5 is built better than any Android device I've seen, has some pretty cutting edge tech (likely A15, in-cell touch), and a fantastic mobile operating system. Even if you prefer Android, a preference I can understand, you still can't say that iOS is somehow an incompetent or subpar platform. For many it's better than Android, for many it's not.

BTW-I'm typing this on my ipad3, so I am well versed in both platforms...Off to bed. Hope you have more teehee to wake up and read.

Sure I can. You couldnt even attach pics or videos to an email until the last update, something even my mom's dumb phone could do years ago LOL. You cant open voice guided driving directions from locations pulled up in Safari. hell, iOS just BARELY got voice guided navi, another thing Android and most dumb phones have had for years. You cant download MP3s from a website and set it as a ringtone or notification, everything has to go thru itunes. There is still no file management system. You cant drag and drop things from your computer directly to your phone. iOS has no widgets, no way to store anything to an SD card, no customization other than a row of icons sitting there. You cant install tons of keyboards, custom launchers....I could go on for days. iOS is a joke to be honest.

Ummm, let's see, here's a few:
-Smartstay
-Direct call
-S Beam
-Smart Alerts
-Pop out Video

Oh so your saying someone else can't have THEIR OWN VIEWPOINT. Yet you can say, "I think the iPhone 5 puts the Galaxy S3 to shame. Absolutely. That being said, I think most high end smartphones put the Galaxy S3 to shame." And call it YOUR VIEWPOINT.

Riiiiiiight.....give it up, call yourself a blind follower and leave it at that. When you admit you're a blind follower, people will respect you for being honest and not call you out for making ignorant statements. Easy Peazy.

Incompetent no, still behind, yes. And my final comment was not wrong. The fact it is Apple makes it sell many more. If a company called Pear with this logo came out, it wouldnt sell crap

Same with this one

Banana-PC-Custom-Laptop-Logo.jpg

Apple is the modern Gratefull Dead and again, if it wasnt Apple, many MORE(than already are) would flock elsewhere with these subpar upgrades and a measley 4" screen that isnt any wider. They are nice phones so dont get me wrong but they are behind the times now.
