Hmmm, doesn't seem that way to me. The fact is there is a big hole in the Mac lineup. There is no Macintosh, any long that is upgradeable. It didn't feel to me like it was slamming Macs or trying to start an argument. Just highlighting an important point about the Mac offerings. As a Mac user it doesn't bother me to know that people are finding valuable options when there are no Macs that fit a particular need.

The inflammation comes from his tone. "So glad...Macs cannot be upgraded...kickass HP"

This is coming from someone with a top-end 5k iMac Retina on his desk, desperately wishing for a real upgradeable headless Mac with powerful consumer graphics. I, like OP and many other consumers, would pay handsomely for such a machine.

I agree with OP's intent, but his delivery is inflammatory. There are better ways to start a discussion about the gaps in Apple's desktop lineup rather than telling us you're "so glad" you didn't buy one. He's not really telling us anything except that he's glad he didn't purchase a computer that we all likely have, on a forum that we talk about such computers on. Useless.

Wasn't your response just as inflammatory stating that you had a 'kickass iMac' when we all know such a beast doesn't currently exist and in the Windows world would be nothing more than mid-range?

....I do say that 'successful branding' has more to do with sales success than a knowledgable public.

That is definitely true for product like Coke vs Pepsi. There is no quality difference -- it is purely a marketing exercise. However with Macs I am reminded of the advertising slogan used by Zeiss optics: "The name makes the difference. The difference made the name."

This shows how an authentic qualitative difference can help establish a brand reputation which leads to purchase by brand name, even if that quality difference disperses over time. It's true that many non-knowledgeable consumers purchase based on "the name", but sometimes an actual qualitative difference established that name as being worth the price.

Well you must care as you came onto the forum to share your views - thank you. BTW it took me longer than 3 minutes to decipher your grammar. :D

I could use other 2 languages that I know much better, and so do you I'm sure.....but it would be disrespectful for the ones who don't so I'll try harder next time, that's how you learn new stuff

Yes I was inflammatory too, when I said I was "so glad I bought a kickass iMac instead of an HP".

Oh right, I never said that at all.

Nice try putting words in my mouth to try to turn my argument against me. I never said I had a kickass iMac. I said I had a top-end iMac, as in: maxed out. Did you even read my post, or are you just trying to shoehorn in your weak argument of "you are inflammatory too!"?

Feel free to read what I wrote and then reply.

Glad you like your computer. I'm going to go post a thread in the HP forums: "So glad I bought another kickass iMac instead of an HP!"

Lifted from your post - you voiced your intention in print, your words not mine.

You're kidding right? Do I really need to explain this JOKE to you?

The real humor is that you took it seriously and tried to call me on it.

Got rid of my late-2009 iMac last October and almost bought a new one. But because iMacs can not be upgraded I went with a Kickass HP. It got a 6GB GeForce 980ti. Now I am really glad that I got it because when the time comes that my 980ti can't run a game I want with all graphics options maxed out, I'll be able to install this (or whatever is cutting edge at that time):

Good to hear that you're satisfied with your new machine!

I went the complete opposite direction. I always had upgradable Macs (Mac Pros) but about two months ago I bought my very first iMac. It is a breeze to work with it. I could not be happier with my choice. I completely understand your aversions regarding the non-upgradability, however.

So glad you're glad. It's good to be glad and to play games.

Course you were joking - just like I was.

The entire premise is based on me wanting to go the HP forums and brag about my kickass iMac, just like OP did here. I don't actually feel like that, but saying that I'd do that is an illustration about how silly OP's intention was to post what he did. Now you're trying to claim I actually feel that way? Hilarious.

There's no problem in being unable to follow the conversation. Just don't try to call someone out on something if you don't understand the basic flow of what's going on.

After all these years I still can't believe people take this stuff so seriously.

Oh no! He said something that can be perceived as a slight against a brand I'm personally invested in! Break out the pitchforks!!

I'm so glad I own both *gasp* (unfortunately not a kickass HP though lol) .... Another benefit to owning a PC and a Mac is the epic arguments I get into with myself...

I think the next iMac having a USB c 3.1 could solve a lot of people's issues other than an internal gpu upgrade. With the port you can add an edgpu

He's trying to start trouble and we didn't allow it. Pretty simple. No pitchforks needed. Sounds like you have an agenda too.

… upgradeable and expandable. I don't hate Apples. It's the direction that Apple has been moving in over the last few years is what I dislike.

I'll be glad if someone will offer respectable stats about … let's say, customer loyalty towards Apple operating systems. About such things, the silence from Apple speaks volumes. If not offered, maybe stats can be leaked.

Debatably inflammatory writing? Take 'hate', for example: Apple takes its eye off the ball: Why Apple fans are really coming to hate Apple software - LA Times (2016-02-08)

Customer loyalty towards Apples operating systems requires an alternative. Many of us find ourselves here coming from Windows, Windows Phone, Blackberry and Android.

So while I fully agree with the fact OS X and iOS seem more buggy (albeit more feature packed) than ever, my loyalty is still very strong. Its not because I feel Apple can do no wrong, its just I feel that everything else is even worse.

Present me with something I clearly feel is better in all the aspect I require and I'll sell all my Apple products. They are just electronics and I'm no more attached to them as I am my refrigerator.
