So here is my tentative game plan in buying 4 phones. What do you think?

OPTION 1:

Fold 2 on Verizon (only if it also supports low band)

Note 20 5g ultra on AT&T

iPhone 12 on T-Mobile

iPhone 12 on AT&T


Option 2:

Fold 2 on T-Mobile/Verizon (only if it also supports low band, if not, go with T-Mobile)

Note 20 5g ultra on AT&T

iPhone 12 on Verizon (only if is supports low band 5g)

iPhone 12 on AT&T/T-Mobile ( dependent on phone 1)

Am I missing anything? Am I just crazy? Lol

It’s make up year lol I bought 2 phones (note 10 5g and iPhone Pro Max - returned the Note) so technically 1 phone I bought last year!! Oh and my Note 20 Ultra will be here TOMORROW!! Yay!! Lol


Case comes Friday!! So you know I’m keeping this phone! lol

If anyone has the means to purchase all the technology their heart desires, go for it—your money, you get to decide how to spend it. Just curious why all 4 basically at the same time on so many lines?

John, you don’t need to explain anything to me. I completely understand where are coming from. Great choice in tech, BTW.

It may be helpful for you to describe your expected usage scenario for eac phone. That way we might be able to better guide you on network selection.

It’s basically dependent on which 5g bands they support as noted in my scenarios. It’s future proofing the deployment of 5g where I live, work and travel to some extent. I know mid band (outside of T-Mobile since it already has/going to be deploying much more of it) phones next year will support mid band and a lot more new tech than now yay!! Lol that’s why I usually buy most of my phones around this time of the year. And as I mentioned earlier, I only bought one phone last year so that’s a downer for me even though I love my iPhone 11 Pro Max!!

Why would anyone want to have different networks? It’s not much different as to why many people have 2 different networks on their phones. To test them out wherever they are. That’s why, as noted in my options, it’s really dependent on iPhone any phone will support Verizon’s low band support. I can’t see Samsung Fold 2 supporting it as the Note 20 ultra doesn’t support it. So my hope is on the iPhones supporting it. BUT if the Fold 2 doesn’t support it, it’ll be best to get the Verizon version since it’s easier to unlock it (60 days). And like I clarified, it won’t be two of the same iPhones.

Oh, so you are testing and then will keep and use the phone/ network that works best and will then take back the other phones?

Just something I've never done and why I'm asking what the purpose is.

I've been on TMobile for about 15 years...somewhere around there. Just had no reason to switch. I had Sprint before that and they sucked.

No. I plan on keeping the phones and continue using (not necessarily at the same time) them and testing the networks as they deploy more and more. That’s why in my list 5g bands support is important and iPhones seem to support more bands (idk about 5g yet). I’m probably going to end up with two Verizon phones (easier to get it unlocked) and one T-Mobile and one AT&T phone ( big dilemma going on if this phone remains the note 20 Ultra***)

I’ve been with T-Mobile since they were Voicestream(I think it was called).

Alright then I get you, sorry didn't mean to be a hardass :D But it looked like the point was you wanted 2x the same iPhone model but on different carriers which I though sounded like a more than slightly eccentric bent ;)

Actually I might soon start using two iPhones concurrently as well. After years of using Max-sized phones, I've finally accepted that I need something smaller to carry in the pants pocket for everyday use. I tried to solve this by going for the iPhone 11 Pro which sits in between the smallest and largest models, but that turned out to be the worst of both worlds even though the phone is amazing otherwise.

So, I'll be getting a small iPhone to use for the everyday stuff that doesn't require a large screen, and a larger device for more extended/productivity use + media consumption. If I had the cash I would happily go for a smallest model iPhone 12 (whatever it ends up being called exactly) as I'm really curious about that new design for their smallest form factor, and then an iPhone 12 largest model. Being more realistic though, I'll probably go for a used iPhone 8 or possibly a 2020 SE for the small one. And then the large iPhone on contract - though this position will be in contest with the very tempting Surface Duo that just appeared... IF they release it in Europe, argh...

Sorry about the rant, just meant to say that smallest + largest iPhone 12 will be a pretty cool combo this fall, so now I get what you're saying. In any case I hope in the end you find the right combo for you! :)

Seems to me OP has not heard of E-Sim

It must be a US thing as I don't understand these minor suitableness on low band and Volt or a few niche things some US carriers have but 2 phones and multiple E-Sim especially for testing seems a solution

When I lived in US we just bought unlocked phones outright

I know some users note differences in cell reception but it there really that much difference in DL speed etc that it warrants 4 purchases, when E-Sim can get you around many issues
