So how does the iPad fit in the case?

These cases look great, but how do they fit exactly? It looks like they just slide in, with only a small border around to keep the iPad in. My iPhone has a similar silicon case, and it slips out sometimes if I push on the edge of the case. I hope these iPad cases have a sturdy way of keeping the iPad in the case, and not let it fall out...

If I had to venture a guess I would say that the incase slider designed enclosure would work well here.

It holds the iPhone very snug and doesn't come apart accidentally.

I can't imagine they would use one of those cheap silicone enclosures ...

But I guess the real answer is wait until April 3rd ...

Designed by Apple, the first case for the iPad is called simply the iPad Case ($39), and is a relatively bare-bones design: using a protective lid (which, note to case makers, we're not enthusiastic about) that folds around the back to become a prop-up video stand, the case is made from vinyl-like PVC plastic and has a microfiber interior. It's designed to provide access to the device's side buttons, headphone port, and so on, only exposing the screen when you want to flip the lid open. It looks and feels somewhat cheaper than any prior Apple-designed case for an iPod, but it's not terrible.

How so? In that image they stuck the lid into the back slot so u can lay it down and type. thats the position its in in that image

Yeah, I'm glad I held off on the case preorder. Usually 3rd party can better fit whatever personal need you have. I am looking for a portfolio type case, I can carry the iPad in my hands. I don't anticipate needing a man-purse as I don't expect to be bringing to other places other than home and work.

I'm waiting to see what Happy Owl Studios prices their case at. The "Wallet" is looking mighty fine now, and the "Wallet Deluxe" is in black leather, and has "pocket folders" to store papers, etc.

with Apple going green with most of their products, I was surprised they chose to use a Vinyl-PVC Plastic material. but as far as I know, Apple hasn't said yet what its made of.

I ordered one. It probably has its flaws, but it is fairly cheap and I can have it right away (or within a couple days of getting my iPad, at least). I'd rather have SOMETHING covering the iPad than waiting for the "perfect" 3rd party case. I will also get a lot of use out of it as a stand for media viewing, and the slanted keyboard setup looks perfect for browsing/reading with occasional keyboard input (like posting to a forum or making a quick comment on Reddit, etc).

Wort case scenario, I find something I like better in a few months and I sell it for $20. That's a $20 loss for protective coverage of a $500+ gadget from day 1... worth it, imo.

I realised that they had used the slot on the back of the case. However I was looking more at the curve where the cover attaches to the main part of the case. If the cover could fold completely back on itself I would have expected that curve to be much sharper and nearer a 90º corner.

I'm probably over-analysing, especially as here in the UK I'll be able to see the reviews before I order.

True that. But when I am not using my iPad I will use it as a photo frame with the dock accessory I purchased. That was one cool function of the iPad I liked since it was announced. Just can see myself paying $100+ for a dedicated digital photo frame of decent size.

So does it need to be on the dock to use the photo frame function or does it just have to be locked? Because I dont like how the dock cant be used in landscape mode for photo frame functionality....if the dock isnt required, using this case in landscape mode standing up would be much more appealing.

No dock needed. There is a slideshow button right next to the slide to unlock. Set your case in landscape and press the button.... instant photo frame!
