that were on the fence about waiting for the next MBP or getting the Air instead are smiling while looking over the the new 13" MBP specs? I mean, I loved this laptop before (understatement), but this just helps justify the purchase even more. :D

The problem I'm having now is either getting the current MBA 13 inch or waiting for a refresh that should be coming this summer/fall.

Moore's Law is a beeyotch...

Honestly man, it just came out late October and I don't think Apple is going to split their market between the MBA and the current 13" MBP any more than this last update already did. My guess is we won't see another air update for a while.

You're still well within the safe-zone for buying it, and assuming you're not looking for a gaming machine or anything crazy like that (heavy video/photo editing), it will do everything you need (Though, I play SC2 on med settings... so it's actually not that bad!) exceptionally well, while being thinner, lighter, sturdier, and longer lasting than anything else.

I definitely feel good. I was a bit worried about how the 13" would change.

If anything the update confirmed my plan to buy the 360 gig SSD upgrade from OWC.

I was wondering if they were going to lose the SuperDrive and come out with a sub 4lbs-ish 13" MBP with upgraded screen resolution, switchable graphics, SSD, etc None of which happened.

I feel good. I have a 15" MBP and was thinking about not getting a MBA and replacing my MBP with new one.

I've been so impressed with the MBA so far! Loving it! And, with the refresh, my MBP is now a "home" mac which works out just fine for me.

My 13" MBA goes with me everywhere now.

I definitely feel a bit more relieved. I was anticipating some bad buyers remorse with the refresh, but not a single bit of remorse now!

On this note, the specs for the next MBA refresh, should there be one this year, should actually be worse than the current MBP specs, correct?

I'm also on the fence about whether to buy an 11" MBA now or wait but if the next MBA will only have i3 sandy bridge with and intel IGP I would be perfectly happy to buy now which would then allow me to avoid SB altogether and be a buyer when MBAs get Ivey Bridge.

It seems that there is no i3 ultra low voltage so the 11" will have to get at least an i5. See the Processor list on Wikipedia (under Mobile Processors). The only ones with a low-enough TDP for the 11" are the 2537M (i5, 1.4Ghz), 2617M (i7, 1.5Ghz), or 2657M (i7, 1.6Ghz). I don't see any others that would fit. For the 13" I suspect the two 25W cpu's might fit the bill.

However I'm not entirely sure this list is correct, I'm a bit surprised there is only one i3 mobile model.

If this turns out to be correct I'd expect the next base MBA to have the 1.4 Ghz i5 and the ultimate the 1.6Ghz i7. But this is all speculation of course.

Edit: Just wanted to add: Due to the fact that these are ultra low voltage processors, I'm pretty sure they will perform worse than the MBP even though they're i5/i7.

I bet MBP still takes at least 45 sec to 1 min to boot up. I don't want to go back to that stage. MBA boots up less than 13 seconds. No No. No. I am not buying another laptop unless SSD becomes standard. I would like to have Optical drive inside though or offer it as external...

I love my Air. No regrets here. I really needed the thin and lightness of this thing for travel. I wish I could have gone the 11 inch but the 13 inch is the smallest I'll go for coding.

With today's MBP updates I'm happier more than ever with the Airs we own,

The MBA's have all the power I need plus thin and half the weight of the MBP's ...

The update was good for mobile power users ... for my I have a Mac Pro the the heavy lifting...

I'd be surprised to see an Air update in 2011, spring of 2012 maybe when they a re-design of the MBP bodies and introduce a new Air as the one more thing ... caught myself dreaming there for a moment :)

I bought my MBA 13" last week (my first Apple laptop, although I have a Mac Mini), and chose it because of its 1440 res, instant wake-up and general gorgeousness.

So when I heard the rumours on Tuesday/Wednesday about the new MBPs having increased screen res and SSD I thought I'd maybe made a mistake. But it's OK, because it turns out that I didn't.

I'm not really surprised they left these features out because it would really blur the lines between the MBA and the MBP. The MBP is for people who want to do serious work; the MBA is for show offs with more money than sense. If Apple put *all* the cool stuff in the MBPs, the MBA buyers might go out and get Sony Vaios like they did before.

If the new MBP had higher screen resolution and the hybrid SSD for OS X, then maybe. Luckily the upgrade was lame, so no worries for me.

I was a owner of a MBA 13" Ultimate, but decided to sell it because I was using my MacPro more than ever and decided during the summer/fall I will wait for the free iPod promotion and hopefully they upgrade the 11" to have 256gb storage and just crossing my fingers to have backlit keyboard, which is a nice feature but I personally noticed it doesn't matter if it doesn't get it (but would be nice to have).
