 For some reason I read "kicked" in your OP. Sorry.

If you dropped it from a height of 2-3 feet, that phone can gain a lot of speed and hence, force.

As for your other question, he might be able to call the CC company on his own if he has his own card (under her account). He can call himself as a card holder (which he would be) and get the details. Otherwise, I don't see anyway for him to get the exact details of her card without her.

i didnt even DROP it. i was just lying down typing and then i go to my phone to get it then it slips and hits it. it was maybe 6 inches to a 1 foot away. at first i just thought it landed on his keyboard then i took a ook and i was like :eek::eek: what just happened?!?!?!?

My wife cracked her 15" MBP after having it for only 2 months. When I took it to the Apple store I was quoted $725 for a new screen. The only way I was able to get it repaired at a reasonable price was to purchase ProServ for $99 and pay $125 for labor. The one advantage of getting ProServ in addition to reducing my repair cost was I that got her MBP back in 2 days.

I know how you feel.

I dropped my first MacBook into a cement fireplace mantle - it dented every case part but miraculously it did not hurt the screen itself...just the bezel and casing around it.

Applecare doesn't cover damage due to mistakes like this, and they quoted me over $1k to repair it.

I bought all 4 case pieces (topcase, bottomcase, lid and display bezel w/isight) and did the repair myself. The case parts were $830.

Transplanting the LCD from the old bezel and lid to the new one was the worst part. The hinge has some tricky bits to transplant, and the bezel itself is stuck to the LCD with adhesive which makes it a very nasty repair.

It was EXTREMELY harrowing, but it worked. The machine is as good as new and my wife still uses it. :)

If you can find a place that will do the repair for $135 in labor, that is VERY worth it in my opinion.

Yeah, give him your MBP in exchange for his. Buy a screen and save up for the repairs.
It sucks but thats life.

Nope apple care won't so expect to dish out 800-1000 dollars to have it fixed by apple for him

by your posted picture of the damage...

holy crap, that looks like it was literally cracked...and you say you just hit it with a dropped phone from 6 inches away?

I have a Power Book G1 (12 inch) and I've dropped that thing at least 3 times (always manages to slide off my bed or couch...I blame the cats). I guess you just hit it at the wrong angle or something, that looks pretty nasty.

Good luck to you, sucks when you get unexpected expenses.

My girlfriend dropped her 15" and it cost her $700 or so to get fixed, I remember her calling me right when it happened and she was absolutely freaking out, she had dropped it from like 2 feet or something and it just cracked right across. Good luck man, I'd give him yours, and then fix his when you can.

Everyone here is talking like they've done this before. You can get a replacement LCD for $250 and fix it yourself. Yeah, its hard but take it slow and you'll be fine.

OH YEAH I KNOW BELIEEEEVEEE MEE.

Ouch, good luck. It stinks but you got to do the right thing by your friend and get it fixed.

so yeah i accidentally dropped something on my friends MBP screen. will apple care take care of it? it's cracked.

he got it in august if that matters.

Reading all the suggestions I was surprised no one suggested selling the broken one and buying a refurb to replace it. (Assuming none of the suggested insurance options pan out)

I sold 2 Powerbooks (1GHz Titanium and 1.25Ghz Aluminum) with completely dead screens for $505 & $615 respectively early last year. I had been using them with external monitors. A SR MBP from August has plenty of value even with a dead screen. I know many people who hardly ever move their laptops and use it with an external monitor all the time. You could probably get close to $1000 even with the display broken and replace it with a refurb or older used MBP.

Since you also have a SR MBP you may want to make the swap and deal with the sale and replacement yourself but you should at least explore the possibility of selling the damaged system.

I must say you are a good friend. You'd be amazed how many friendships would dissolve over something like this. That said, "NO ONE" is allowed to use my MBP, poke/point a finger at the screen, carry liquids or food within 10 feet... you get the picture. :)

Good luck
