Didn't think I'd ever buy one, but I guess I'm part of that camp of people who were jaded at first, went into an Apple store and tried one out, and thought "This thing is awesome." ;)

It's not opened yet - I LITERALLY have called 7-8 different Apple Stores and Best Buys in Southern California, and NONE of them have the official black Apple case in stock. That's the only one I want, for the slanted typing position.

I am afraid of opening it and not using a case, for protection, so I REALLY hope I can find one soon. How long does it take for it to arrive from the online Apple store? It says 3-4 weeks for shipment, that's RIDICULOUS. Did it really take that long for you, or is that just a general time frame?

Um....there are HUNDREDS of other cases that not only offer the two-position prop-up, but are of better quality.

Don't buy the Apple case, for your own good.

Really? I heard it's a pretty good quality case.

I guess I should head back into my local Apple store tomorrow and look at the other cases they sell???

Question - are ALL the cases for sale on Apple's website available at their retail stores? Which ones are website only? I'm not going to wait 2-3 weeks for shipment, so I need to be able to pick it up tomorrow.

The Apple case is great, but you could always buy a cheap standby case until it arrives.

The iPad is so last month. We're onto the iPhone 4 now. All the cool kids are doing it.

Open it anyway! I ordered my Apple case on eBay for $41 (it was used), but used my iPad with no case for about 2 weeks... No scratches whatsoever, just kept it in an old netbook sleeve...

From what I have gathered and witnessed myself, the Apple Case is a flimsy piece of crap compared to some of the other things available. The Marware Case is spectacular in comparison to the Apple Case.

But why do you need a case so bad? The case-less iPad is the way to go. It feels amazing. I carry my iPad in a neoprene sleeve.

^ 0.o DAMN! Look at that thing! That Marware case is so fine, it should be standard issue with EVERY iPad!

Forget the Apple case, go with the linked case!

I really enjoy the Apple case. Don't be persuaded otherwise. I would suggest just getting an InCase or Griffin and returning/exchanging.

I have the macally case and it is wonderful, I ordered it off of amazon and had it within two days. I would highly recommend.

I just keep my in an Incase Neoprene sleeve. I did have it with the rubber grip on there to protect the back, but after so many people talked about how great the iPad feels naked (and it really does), I took that off and just use the sleeve now and am very careful about where I lay it down outside the sleeve.

Open it and become an addict. If it makes you feel better, go use it in bed, where it's soft LOL

Yep - if you want the Apple case you will Like the Apple case IMO - its the best case out for what it does. 3 to 4 weeks looks to be the lead time.

Pick up a cheap sleeve from BB or Frys to use until your Apple case comes in.

For what it's worth, the official iPad case definitely shows dust, does feel cheap, but I would vastly prefer the ability to stand it up for typing or viewing the screen than get to enjoy a naked iPad...

The Marware case is a viable option, I am sure. But if you even think you need an angled case...don't settle for a sleeve...you will not be satisfied. I know I wasn't! I constantly tried to prop this thing up on my sleeve....just wasn't the same.

It's also really annoying that you can't dock the iPad with the Apple case...but, it doesn't look half bad when propped up or at the typing angle with the cable plugged in. I do, however, have useless piece of $29.00 plastic sitting on my desk :( .

Unless you're ridiculously clumsy you should be fine using it around the house till you get a case. The entire thing is very scratch resistant, it's not a hollow egg, they built them fairly strong.

your car doesn't have a case does it? do you drive it? the ipad is metal, glass and rubber, just like a car, and a lot less prone to damage.

i have the official Apple case. its rather nice but if you want to prop it up for typing, go for something else. it feels like you're doing a bout of boxing with your iPad when you do speed typing while it is propped up with it bouncing back and forth. not very nice.

if it hasnt been smashed by someone on youtube, its not mainstream yet :p

Just open it up, I have a case on order as well, it's almost a shame to hide the sexy:D

Just go get an invisible shield next to the apple store in irvine. Stop acting like it's a life or death thing...it's just an iPad. It's not that serious.

And if you are really worried, go get SquareTrade or SafeWare insurance coverage just incase. They both got pros and cons but seems very legit.

Stop worrying too much and start enjoying the magical device a bit.

I suggest never opening it. Put it in a fireproof vault and let it stay there for 20 years.

In 20 years sell it for bank.

The OP has the worst case of OCD I have ever come across. Imagine not being able to open something simply because you're afraid you might somehow damage it before you've had a chance to use it. Pretty sad.

A "healthier" response would be to say that you're not going to take it out of the house until you find a protective case, but even that is borderline silly.
