...and I love it, it's quite awesome. But I have one complaint! There is no spanish support? I mean, not even the symbols áéíóú etc? I constantly text in spanish and this is kinda a bummer. Does anyone think there's a chance they'd update the keyboard with some more symbols like those, or maybe even a spanish mode? Guess I shouldn't have expected this in a phone only released in the US. Or have I totally overlooked these characters?

Anything is possible. Time will tell. Right now, I'm waiting for the supposedly huge 1.1 update that will add ichat and open a gateway to Heaven.
Maybe you should just text in English.
I always chat in Icelandic and I simply cannot get the iPhone to use the following characters:
Þþ, Ðð, Ææ, Ý ý, Í í, Ö ö, Ú ú, Ó ó, Á á, É é
Seriously, holy crap guys. The U.S. doesn't have an official language. If he wants to speak Spanish, Icelandic, or whatever the heck else, he has just as much right as the rest of us do to speak English.

Eh, born and raised in America and english is my native language. Trust me, I expected this kind of response. It's just that my girlfriend, and several of my other friends, speak spanish and I constantly text her! The phone I changed from was a vx9800 and you could set that to spanish and type so very fast on it (I still can't type faster on iphone and have to get used to it, but maybe with practice).

I don't care what language you speak in, honestly. I do think people who don't speak english might suffer economically though.
Anyway, I haven't seen anything on spanish virtual keys or options. My guess is it's probably something that will be implemented as the iPhone is rolled out in non-english speaking countries...so maybe Q1 2008 would be my guess...but that's just a guess.
I'd be willing to bet there will be multiple language support once the phone goes worldwide. But I wonder if there's limited space for all languages in one firmware file. On a Macbook, the added language files take up several hunred megabytes. Maybe there will be a firmware upgrade that allows you to choose a language.

In my management class, we were taught that English is the global business language. There have been online debates about that claim. But in North America, it is very well understood that English is the primary language with Spanish being a close second.
Like the slew of other updates, Apple will probably update languages. But I'm kind of sick of people (not the author of this thread) in general demanding that North Americans bend over to cater to their specific language requests. "For English, dial 1." No YOU dial 1.
Bottom line: When I went to Spain, I learned Spanish.
The Monolingual application removes the other languages to free hard drive space. You probably already know about it.

(and true, my spanish speaking friends don't even use the accents when txting, but I'm a perfectionist and do when I want to be totally clear!)

Where I'm from in North America, it's understood that both English and French are the primary language... without a mention of Spanish at all
Edit: Unless of course you meant specifically business language, in which case, I live in a part of North America where English is the primary language and no one cares about the french
That's because the "language files" are complete translations of all menus and other text in the OS. The ability to enter other characters is trivial in terms of space taken up.
