i rented 300 last night. I have high speed so it only took about 10 minutes to downlaod bit when I went to watch it it was just a blank grey screen no sound, nothing... They refunded me 3.99 but since they charged me 4.98 (wtf?) I still gave them .99 for a pain in the butt...

OK , so they refunded you - but do you know what the problem was?

Its too much for your frickin' iPod to do. Can your dish washer clean your clothes? Its not a top set box, its an iPod touch.

Hook your computer to your tv ($20 for a really long cable from monoprice.com) or live with your iPod not being able to power your TV!

Apple apologists never cease to amaze me. Apple ADVERTISES the iPhone and iPod Touch as being able to play movies in an oh-so-perfect looking manner! Have you ever watched an Apple commercial for them? So this guy has the audacity to say it doesn't work as advertises and some of you just jump all over him with harsh comments about AppleTV which has NOTHING to do with what he's talking about. I honestly wonder why so many Mac users can't keep themselves from replying if they have nothing useful or helpful to say. It's like you feel you need to defend Apple no matter how bad their product is or how much BS they dish out in their commercials. Geeze, I for one am GLAD someone bothered to try a movie out and tell what the pitfalls currently are for using that feature on that device because I'm considering buying one. I will certainly take keep his report in mind.

By the way, I upgraded to 1.1.4 and the video stuttering is not fixed. It doesn't just stutter with iTune rentals but, with any video played on a TV from 1.1.3 and up.... Needless to say... I don't use my iPod touch for TV anymore.

You don't even know what the topic is about. Please, point me to an Apple commercial where the iPod is playing a movie TO A TV in a perfect manner and we'll talk. He is not talking about just on the iPod, but using it as a set top box.

The fact of the matter is. It worked PERFECTLY in firmwares 1.1.2 and below. How can you brush this off as "the iPod isn't meant to play on a TV perfectly". Why would you support a feature that gets WORSE after only a software update? If it worked 100% in 1.1.2 and now works 95% in 1.1.3 then how is that normal? Don't try to tell me that I cannot use the iPod touch to watch content on my TV. I don't need an AppleTV.

I didn't tell you to get an AppleTV. I'm just saying that you are making an issue where there is none. If it doesn't work right, take it into Apple and have them fix it. Thats their job. If they refuse or can't fix it, contact your credit card company and have them reverse the charge; then buy a 1.1.2 version one.

Today I decided to rent a movie....snip...
However, I appear to be a moron because I forgot that I can double click on the cover-art to make it widescreen but, ...snip.

I agree with you....you do appear to be a moron.

Except that standard definition movies (read: most movies) do not have 5.1 sound, it is stereo. I will NEVER put a source component in my home theater that lacks surround sound-this is just the biggest flaw ever in a device designed to be a source of movies. Imagine if your DVD player was stereo only?

I'll stick with netflix until they offer 5.1. I didnt spend thousands of dollars on my home theater to watch movies in fricking stereo.
