Just follow the Stanford University iOS programming course on iTunes U and you can roll your own! (While the example is built for the iPhone, the course covers how to make your apps universal).

You beat me to it! Was just going to suggest this myself!

Maybe someone will build a Swift playground once iOS 10 is released. :)

Sure, there are 3rd party alternatives. However, useful functionality that can be provided by seemingly easy-to-code applications like Calculator and Weather, that are already included on the iPhone, really should be present on the iPad to give iOS a more consistent experience. It's been six years, really crazy that this is still lacking.

I really want to be able to bring up Control Center on my iPad and quickly/easily launch a Calculator application, just like I can on my iPhone.

Spotlight! Cmd+Space, enter your maths, done! This is what I use on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro.

I'm with OP. I just don't like third party solutions to stuff when it doesn't seem like it should be necessary. It isn't as elegant 99% of the time and just doesn't quite "fit in". It doesn't feel consistent with my iPhone either. I'd like the calculator button in control center as well. If they added a calculator that could float as well as be a regular app, split view, slide over, etc, then that would be awesome.

There are a bunch of free simple calculator apps. Just type calculator into the search and at least a dozen of those are simple calculators. The first one that comes up looks just like the iPhone app.

Nothing to do with fanboy glasses....

I use pcalc...it has a widget that when you swipe down it is available, very simple.

I also use pccalc. It supports slide over which is tremendously useful when working on my iPad, just slide it over, use it, slide it away.

Siri can also be a useful alternative...

Spotlight also works but sometimes I can find it a little annoying to reach while in an app vs PCCalc or just using Siri.

There are hundreds if not thousands of calculators on the App Store. It certainly wouldn’t hurt Apple to port it, but I cannot see the priority for them either.

its not like they care about the iPad when it comes to iOS in general

What makes you say that?
