AppleCare is in my phones and MacBook. I had it on my aluminum S0 watch, not on my stainless steel S3. These are my work tools, and the customer service is worth it to be able to be able to walk in with a damaged phone, have it replaced and my information restored in a timely fashion. I found that the watch was rugged enough and didn’t think that item was worth insuring for damage, but my laptop and phone definitely are.

How much is it to repair a cracked glass back plate?
[doublepost=1539773949][/doublepost]If it’s as crazy high as for the Xs (max), I’d take it.
Far more than an Otterbox Defender case. My phones look mint 3 years down the road when I sell them.

I will preorder my XR on Friday (Blue, 128 GB). Never had any damage on my phones (3GS, 4S, 5S, 6S) so far, so you might say I take good care of them, but you might also say that, statistically, it's about time something breaks, right? I am worried particularly about the glass back breaking because it's so expensive to replace, but I will, in all likelihood use a case which should protect at least from 6ft drops or the like.

I'm a bit torn here because getting insurance for a phone that expensive with such high repair costs seems like a good idea, but at the same time, the phone plus Apple Care will cost me more than a 1200 USD where I live, which is exactly what you would pay for a XS, 64 GB, used but like new.

Any thoughts are welcome.

So,no I'm not. So,buy a quality case and you'll have a mint condition handset to see in 3 years. So no to answer your question.

I ordered with Apple Care after all. I understand that some cases offer great protection, but those are also quite bulky. For me, a case for the back offering better grip must do.

I always get it and to be honest, im a bit of a klutz and its always paid off for me.
I just went from a 7 plus to XS Max and for an extra $249 on a $1,999 phone, I didn't flinch.
I had 2 replacements with my warranty on the 7 Plus and knowing how accident prone I am, ill likely smash the new one too, lol (I had a quad lock case on my phone and do a lot of mountainbiking so im higher risk for accidental damage.

I don’t understand why anyone would get Apple care as it doesn’t cover loss and theft, surely the two most important scenarios

Much better to go with the carrier insurance. I’m on my 3rd iPhone 7 having lost the first two on nights out #winning

You can now purchase AppleCare+ with the theft and loss coverage, albeit the theft and loss rider is not handled by Apple directly.

Simple: If you have kids, you have a) more people around you likely to destroy stuff and b) no more nights out.
(also: my existing insurance covers theft, but not the + 500 $ in repair costs should the glass back of the phone break.)

Just know that employees at Apple Stores are pushed hard by their managers (in some stores) to sell Apple Care to customers. It's a huge cash cow for Apple. It feeds on customers' paranoia.
So as most insurance. However, the premium is exceptionally high for AppleCare+ for what it offers as return.

I think Apple will give you a refurbished phone if you make an AC+ claim.
I have had AC on all but 2 or 3 of the 15+ iPhones and iPads I have bought over the years. The only time I have used it was to replace an iPad that stopped charging.
I bought AC for my iPhone XS, as I consider it peace of mind. Chances are I won’t use it.

I always buy AC+. Have had to use it several times. I’m starting to go more naked with my iPhone (it’s glorious) so a no-brainer.

I don’t think I’ve ever bought Apple care since I started buying iPhones in 2007. I’ve broken 2 screen, last one was with the 8 plus. I’m glad the screen on the xs and the max are highly durable based on the YouTube reviews.
