I have to admit storage management annoys me, I like to do it between phones, not as I'm going along - I guess that puts me in the want category for plenty of storage? I can plug it in and back it up, but I don't like having to take stuff off to keep space free.
Yeah, it does (put you in the want category).

What you said is one of the reasons I want the max when I buy. I never need to worry about storage or any of the OS issues that can come with not having enough.

It's also nice to be able to use that storage for things when I do actually have a need for it. For me, nothing sucks more than needing space for something and not having it.

Agree, I almost feel it interrupts the 'just works' experience of iOS (that you're paying a premium for in the first place) to have to do day to day storage management - why dragging 16 as far as they did was pretty shocking.

I don’t have a single device with a 4K display, so I have no reason to record 4K video. 1080p is quite sufficient to me!
Sorry, but that seems incredibly shortsighted to me. I’ll take the highest quality I can, now, knowing that I’m the future, 4K and even 8K (or higher!) will be the norm.

As I explained in my subsequent post, when I have kids or something else in my life worth recording and keeping, I will probably want to record at the highest possible resolution. Right now it would be a waste. It may seem shortsighted to you, but you’ll have to take my word that I understand my own needs better than you do.

Why would people keep a bunch of 4K video on the phone ? Do you watch all those videos you created every few days and do you watch them on your phone.
I simply off load all that anyway and also all my raw files (I photograph almost exclusively in raw).

I think the least amount of storage would be the most popular because it’s the most affordable and you have consumers who don’t want to pay anymore money for a device as expensive as it is already. But then one has asked them-self, how much storage do they truly need versus how much they actually use? Either way, it’s all relative.
Yes, price is the biggest factor for popularity of base storge models.

That said, I'm usually the go-to tech person among family and friends and nearly all the Android and iOS devices I've had to troubleshoot use maybe around 5GB or less. Nowadays, it's usually around 10GB. The ones I know who use more storage (and do buy higher capacity models or devices with microSD slot) are typically gamers or tech enthusiasts themselves.

Fair enough. And yeah - having kids is the main reason I’m so concerned about resolution and image quality.

Why fill up he phone just so you can brag to yourself that you did?
I intentionally fill unused space with videos. Otherwise, it just seems to get eaten up by "Other". Even on iOS 11, there doesn't appear to be an easy way to free up that space. On Android, there's clear cache.

I wouldn’t come close to filling this thing up, coming from a 128GB that was just half filled, but what if I tried, to make things interesting? Anybody else in the same situation? How can I fill things up? Is there really an app for everything?
Recording 4K video would fill that up. But I agree with you on this. Streaming has made onboard storage a bit redundant. However, 64GB wouldn’t be enough “wiggle room”. As others allude to, it is an up sell tactic. Bizarre because Apple still sells standalone computers with less storage!

I Never fully understand when someone says “Sorry” on the internet, when you literally don’t mean “Sorry.” It just seems redundant and over used. That said, everybody has different preferences what format they choose for photo’s and video. Your preference isn’t everyone else’s.

Personal preferences are awesome, to be sure. I just can't say I've ever seen a video - any video, EVER - and thought to myself 'I wish this video were in a dramatically lower resolution.' I guess maybe I'm in the minority there? If you have a device capable of recording in 4K at 60FPS (especially using a high-efficiency codec that doesn't take much space), that sort of seems like a no-brainer to me. But you're right - some people might be perfectly content with 1/4 the resolution.

External storage is cheaper. Streaming offers more variety. I do download various playlists so I always have some without data connection, though these days, it is harder and harder to find a spot without connection. 30Gb free on the 64Gb device. I have 500Gb of photos but some are in the cloud and some are archived or otherwise shared with other folks somewhere. I used to have so many songs, thanks Napster, but when iTunes told me it take 53 days to listen to them all, I realized I was collecting and not listening. Now I pick a mood and stream that mood.

Point being, there isn't a phone that could hold my life anyway, and I wouldn't want to. Prefer to stay current and fresh than store and carry around a life of keepsakes.

Why would you want to fill your phone to capacity? I like the space that way I can have the ability to shoot video and pictures without worrying about it. Reason why I have 256 GB.
