I got the iPhone 13 Pro several weeks ago, and it's been very rough. Poor battery life, crashing apps, poor connectivity.

My mom and girlfriend have the 13 Pro Max, and their phones have been running like hot garbage ever since they updated to iOS 15.2. Knowing how Apple updates have always made my devices worse, I decided not to update to 15.2.

I just find it so frustrating how with each iOS update, I have to spend hours researching to see if Apple added some custom malware-like code to cripple my device. It's just unnecessary stress and I don't have time to do this every single time there's an update. What's the point of having long software support if the new updates just make your device worse?

That said, is there anyone else here who has never updated their iPhones? I was thinking about sticking with iOS 14 forever, but I'm concerned that Apple added some kind of timer to begin dropping performance and worsening battery life when the timer hits a certain number.
To those who have never updated your device, did you face any performance or battery issues after awhile?

Your iPhone 13 Pro can't be on any version of iOS14.. it shipped with iOS15 and can never run a version of iOS lower than that... Whether or not you want to update to more recent versions of iOS15 is your choice

Ahh, I see. Thanks for letting me know.
I still haven't updated to iOS 15.2 because of the horrible lag and battery life my mom and GF have. Does Apple have some kind of malware that executes after a certain amount of time? Like after 1 year, the malware executes and immediately throttles your performance and battery life.

There is a way to beat the madness but not for the first year you buy a current new phone.

New iPhones always ship with the latest buggy unfinished version of iOS no matter what. There’s no way to avoid it if you want a new phone near launch date. All you can do is keep on updating it throughout the year with every incremental update they push out.
Yes it’s a horrible situation.

Then in August when the last update of your iOS becomes available, install it AND DON’T INSTALL the next new version in September—- Wait until August when it’s done to install it. Follow that routine from then on out: install new version of iOS only in August.

A much better way to live the iPhone life is to buy the current iPhone in August BEFORE the next new model drops. It’ll have a finished OS on it that may only need one more update—- Then DONT UPDATE IT until the next August.

The way to beat the madness is to stay one year behind on the iOS merry-go-round.

But staying much farther than one year behind sucks.

Try disabling background app refresh. Along with any notifications you don't absolutely need and location to only when using an app.

Here's more battery tips.

I run old phones on the latest OS and don't have battery drain issues. Mainly because I turn off the unnecessary crap that drains batteries. Occassionally an OS update may cause an app to go crazy with battery drain. But you can look at the battery usage to figure out which app is the troublemaker.

Think disabling background app refresh helped a bit, though battery life is still not good.

If you have and devices paired to your phone, try unpairing them, do a Reset All Settings on your phone and then re-pairing them again. This sometimes helps.

Maybe this video will help you with other tips to help you with better battery life.

I have 15.2 installed on my 13 Pro Max and the phone is running fast and fluid. Battery life has improved a bit more since installing 15.2. Others are reporting better battery life on their 13 Pro. Look at the iPhone 13 Daily Battery life thread to get some insight if you want.

I updated to iOS 15.2 today. Good thing is that I'm not experiencing the lag that my mom and GF have.
I'll have to test a bit more to see if battery life improved.

Now why in the world would I waste my time trolling here? I am a legitimate Apple customer who is having problems with my devices.

anyway, can you share screen of your Battery drain for past 10 days? With 15.3. beta1 I am doing around 5:30h screen on time and 2:30 screen off time while reaching 75-80%. But that changes depending on Apps I use that day. In general is OK, but I remember with 15.2 getting 10h screen (on/off) time while not getting above 70% of battery on my iPhone 12 Pro Max

I reset my device about a week ago, so it only shows up to 8 days.
I noticed that I'm losing .5-1% / hour when it's idle. That seems to be around where my android phone was draining while idle.
I'm not sure what people are talking about when they say iPhones have good battery life, because I'm not seeing it. It looks about the same.

What apps are using battery when in idle as shown on the 24 hr battery usage chart. You complain and act like you expect everyone to know what is happening on your phone. Maybe take a breath, that might help.

It looks like WhatsApp.
This is similar to what it looks like on my Android phones. The point isn't which app is draining battery faster; it's that given that I have the same usage patterns, why am I not seeing better battery on the iPhone than my Android phones? I thought the 13 Pro and Pro Max were supposed to be battery kings.

Did you turn off background app refresh? If you have then WhatsApp has an issue and Meta needs to look into it. Not sure what you are expecting from people. People are willing to help if you would stop coming across so angry and demanding, and just tone it down.

I had my iPhone 6s+ on iOS 9.0.2 from October 2015 to February 2021. I was intent on keeping the last fully untethered jailbreak.

I did not experience performance or battery issues.

In fact, the battery on my 6s+ was only replaced a few months ago after having survived several Phoenix, AZ summers in a car with no A/C.

Well in general, your usage patterns is just one part. The other is the App background acitivty like Taz Mangus mentioned. Or a bug in an App that uses more battery than it should.

I am not sure, if the 120Hz can be set to "Enabled" all the time or if it is used only when needed. But it would be good to look at that setting as well.

I can understand your frustration when you buy an expensive phone and have your possibly biggest expectation hard to achieve, but try to look on it from another perspective. You buy yourself a V8 car and will complain about the fuel economy despite it is fast and beautiful, but you are driving it only in city and refuse to disable half of the cylinders when you do not need to use them :).

If we are talking about iPhones, MacBooks, iPad, battery management was always about SW optimalization against having the biggest battery on the market and they were achieving it most of the times. You can see when you compare for example Samsung S21 battery capacity (4000 mAh) vs iPhone 13 Pro capacity (3095 mAh) and they endurance per charge.

The iPhone 13 surely should be one of the best in terms of battery management and endurance. I am saying that not because it is what MKBHD or Zollotech are saying on their youtube channels, but from people I know who bought the iPhone 13 Pro and confirm the same which is 1.5-2 days of usage.

I agree that the charts doesnt look very good but try optimize what you see is draining most of the battery and if it will not work maybe contact Apple for support.

Cheers

There you go. Music app draining battery in iOS 15. I haven’t noticed on my device because I usually listen to music App when my iPhone is connected to CarPlay via cable or on my iMac

You're talking like 1.5-2 days of usage is great when that's been the standard on most flagship Android devices for years. My S10 got 2 days of usage with 8+ hours of SOT, same as my iPhone 13 Pro.

I think Apple customers are convincing themselves that they're getting better performance or battery life or whatever when it's not really there. People have to justify dumping $1000 on their phone, so making up pros is how they do it.

Cool. So why buy an Apple phone? You’re happy with your Android, stick with it.
I had no idea that Apple and their fans lie about Apple products.
The M1 is a weak sauce chip. The iPhone 13 has mediocre battery life, garbage camera and is laggy. No one told me this. They all told me Apple devices were the best things ever.

Poor share purchase choice on your part then, I guess.
The share purchases were great, actually. I went from $100,000 to $1 million. TSLA helped me from from $1 million to $10 million.
I have no doubts that Apple is a good business. I just think their products are overhyped and pretty mediocre.
Apple products are more of a fashion statement than a good product.

Lol, no, of course not. Seriously?

Oh, ok, now I get the whole thread.

Is it just me or we have a bunch of these hilarious threads lately? I mean, more than usual? Apple must be really hitting some nerves.
They are pretty funny, I do agree with that. This thread is a perfect example. Just a lot of complaining about how horrible Apple product A is, or Apple product B is. And it never ends, every single thread, much like this one. You offer help in the the form of suggestions to try and they can’t be bothered with any of it. And I love the bit about how Android and Windows is so superior. And yet here we are having the never ending complaints about Apple. And it is funny and sad at the same time.

Now we are being called liars. The anger is strong with the OP, yes it is.
