The new mac mini is a joke compared to the 2012. The iFanboys will have you believe that no one wants upgradable ram or quad-core or the ability to clean their fan without a tamper resistant security torx screwdriver or the ability to run two 2.5" drives, but there are actually a lot of people that don't want their computers going to apple's throwaway idevice model.

People are finding out that OSX and Apple's creativity apps aren't really free after all.

Yep, I would gladly pay $100 or whatever microsoft charges for a version of osx that is actually supported longterm. No idea how anyone has time to install a new version of osx every year, complete with loads of bugs, and inevitable slowdowns on older hardware. I can say there hasn't been a single new must have feature in osx for years. In fact, I've been actively staying away from upgrading.

I do like the idea of taking/making calls from the computer, but I've had that feature for years thanks to google voice.

This is very true. I had to expect almost a year to get full driver support for older GPUs on Mavericks and it requires a little hack inside the driver package.

I can summarize the main features on the last four OSX versions:

Yosemite: integration with iOS devices (it doesn't matter to me since my cell phone is Samsung and I don't have a tablet);

Mavericks: RAM compression (nice!)

Mountain Lion: Fusion Drive support (nice!)

Lion: FileVault2 (not very nice since they discontinued FileVault 1 instead of keeping both functional). With FV2 you are also unable of leaving a usable Guest account for thieves (and track their steps when trying to recover the laptop).

I'm still kicking myself in the behind for upgrading. I really like the new flat (Windows 8) look of Yosemite but my previous install of Mavericks worked much smoother.

Unfortunately after railing against the Yearly OS X Fashion Show I was seduced by the Dark Side. We'll see if I can find a pair next fall.

It would be so great if Apple committed to a three-year run for Yosemite and offered solid improvements. Unfortunately that part of Apple died a few years ago.

My Windows 7 Pro install at work runs wonderfully on an quad i5 Haswell HP and will be supported until 2020. As much of a PITA that Microsoft is you can count on a long for their popular Windows versions. At Apple you can count on both your software and hardware being dropped like a bad sitcom.

When I was waiting for a new Mini to show up before this 2014 junk I was on this site constantly hoping for the Haswell not to show up and that a Broadwell/Skylake would come next year with the probability of soldered RAM but dual bays with an Apple SSD blade and a Sata bay.

What a joke the 2014 is and I rarely even look at this site any longer. Let the fanboys buy the throw away junk is all I got to say.

That's astonishing. So glad I managed to get hold of a 2.3 i7 mini from the refurb store! Maxed the RAM to 16Gb and put in a Samsung Evo 250Gb SSD as the boot drive and it flies along for a total cost of about £650!

Did you make the SSD into a fusion drive or keep them separate? Trying to figure out what to do with mine.

Seriously why do you bother to come here then? We get it, you hate the 2014 Mac Mini. Isn't life too short to be so negative. Why not go find better things to do in life? Volunteer, get laid, hit the gym... It's a flipping computer and you are wasting your life being consumed with all this anger.

he would but he is still desperately looking for a woman equipped with a stable OS and upgradable parts.

The 2014 Mac mini does have both PCIe and SATA bays.

Also, don't punish MacRumors, they're just the messenger.
