It's ok. I like the form factor more than anything but the screen is a bit disappointing. The colour gamut is not as good as even the iPad air let alone other tablets like the nexus 7 2013 or my tab pro 10.1. Overall it's a nice tablet though.

I think my next purchase (next month) will be the S5 or note 4 to go with my 6 plus. I can't stick to one platform.
To be honest I have been tempted by a note 4 and iPhone plus combo..as my tablet type replacement

Side by side the mini 2 colour is not as nice as the Air/Air 2, I had both, by itself most wouldn't notice. I have a 6 plus and Air 2 with data which both look the same, wouldn't mind a note 4 though too ;)

I agree. It's only because I have an ipad air and tab pro 10.1 that I notice the screen on my mini 3 isn't as good.

I suppose apple have learnt from having the same quality in the mini compared to the air as the air really should be the better product. From what I gather the mini 2 and the previous air were the same but just different in Size

FWIW,

I have the Tab S 8" tablet and I LOVE IT. The screen is amazing, it is light, fast and even though I have the retina mini 2 the Sammy device is my go to.

They are on sale now at a lot of places so you can get a good deal on them. I am usually one of the people that pants at new tech but I recently bought the iPad mini 2 because I wanted to replace my iPad3 and give it to my parents.

If it is not your main device, getting a slightly aged (and the Tab S ain't that old) then it may be a good buy for you now rather than waiting.

As for the data plan, I tethered it from my Note 4 when I was on course for a month (don't have unlimited data but it worked great). I also like the fact that if you are on wifi with both devices you can basically ghost your phone onto your tablet and not have to carry both around as your tablet becomes your phone.

I agree. The tab S might have been out for a while but the hardware is still top notch. The screen is the best out there, the processor is the same as what's in my tab pro 10.1 despite it being the exynos variant of the snapdragon 800 (note 3). It's still a beast performer. It handles everything with ease. It will be good for a few years to come.

I much prefer a data plan tablet. It's annoying to have to turn on hotspot, wait for my tablet to connect, worry about my phones battery life, etc. I wish my SP3 had 4g.
It does have a USB port, just use a modem
