...All those colors represent something. Red is music, purple is iTunes Store, bright blue/green is videos, etc. It makes a lot of sense. Sadly that idea breaks down because the music app has the same gradient. Would be nice for iTunes and Music to be more differentiated, this would have been a good chance. Leave the Music app red and it would have been clear why the iTunes icon is multicolor.

Based on your post number and not accounting for repeat posters, about 40 people cared when you asked. Most issues and topics addressed on a tech forum about an aesthetically-driven company are going to be first world problems. Who cares?More importantly. Who cares? It's an icon. First world problems at their peak.
I have always disliked the iOS 7/8 music icon. I personally wish they would have kept the "iPod" icon, But I see why they changed it. I think the new music icon takes the focus away from the icon and focuses it on the music note.
So many of us wanted iTunes to be broken up but that'll probably not happen.

And just like your attitude is.Both are horribly ugly, just like the whole UI is.
I guess it's time to reopen "Jony Ive Redesigns Things"'s tumblr page:

More seriously, for once I can understand the use of gradient shades, representing all the various kinds of music into a single app. And as usual, we complain and in a few months we won't even bother.
I remember we were all complaining about the Safari icon in iOS 7 and in the end lots of us actually like it now.

I'm confused - aren't we all still on the red iTunes in El Capitan?

I often replaced the horror of 2010–2013 with the following. As for the new icon, both the redrawn ‘eighth note’ glyph and colour palette are wonderful. And for those interested, here is the history of the iTunes logo over time:

Your phone icon is almost perfect, but you need to account for recursion.I updated my music icon because I missed the classic iPod too much too haha
Thanks for the tip! I am in no way a graphic designer, just someone who wanted to replace the music icon with a classic iPod and thought he might as well replace the phone icon while he was at it. I'll definitely take that into account though!
I agree, this icon looks much nicerI have always disliked the iOS 7/8 music icon. I personally wish they would have kept the "iPod" icon, But I see why they changed it. I think the new music icon takes the focus away from the icon and focuses it on the music note.
Would there necessarily be a new icon for the Music app? Seems like the icon they used during the keynote could have been simply something associated with the Apple Music service, but not necessarily something that would affect the Music app itself. I guess we'll see, but I'm not completely sure there would necessarily be an app icon change.umm what? The current music icon was one of my favorites. The pink/red/orange perfectly captured the feeling of music imo. And it stood out. Now we're getting another white icon. I guess I can get use to the new one, but I'll always prefer the current one. What do you think about it? Also if you look closely, you'll see that the new icon shape has been redrawn.

Yeah, I do see it on the little device shots at the bottom of http://www.apple.com/ios/ios9-preview/, so seems like there's more to it being the likely app icon after all. I guess we'll see.Everything I seen suggests it's the new app icon. It's shown as the app icon a few times in the keynote. Also on the iOS 9 page. Also on the iPod touch on the Apple Music page.
Oh it’s happening.Yeah, I do see it on the little device shots at the bottom of http://www.apple.com/ios/ios9-preview/, so seems like there's more to it being the likely app icon after all. I guess we'll see.
Yeah, certainly appears more likely than I originally might have thought. That said, there have been times before when some things (perhaps not as "big" as an app icon) were tweaked on the iOS preview page as new betas would come out. Not to say that's likely by any means, but there's that too nonetheless.Oh it’s happening.
