No regrets given what's available, but I wish something else was available (eg. SE1 size-case with iPhone 11 Pro face/tech)
There have been rumors of the 5.4" iPhone 12 (in between SE1 and SE2) for a while now. Certainly before the SE2 was announced. It's gonna be $649 instead of $399, though.

I'm surprised no one is complaining here about the lack of haptic feedback on the lock and notification screens. Seems like such a silly omission.

It’s annoying that I can’t do a long press on Duo Mobile notifications on the lock screen to accept a push notification. I just remember to press the home button ahead of time to unlock the phone, since it‘s only a limitation on the lock screen.

thinking of getting the samsung galaxy a71 over the se. bigger screen and good battery life and quality camera has me excited over the se

its also a little bit cheaper too. $365 on amazon
If you plan to replace the phone within 2 years that’s a solid plan. I used to be Samsung only, and they are a very good phone when they’re new. I only know about the galaxy S models, but most of them would lag and have jerkyness within a year or 2. You’ll most likely enjoy the a71 for now, but if you keep your phones for over 2 years then you may be better off with an iPhone. The a71 won’t be worth anything in 2 years.

Traded in iPhone 8 so everything is familiar. I don’t like the larger size iPhones. Camera seems better than 8 and is excellent but doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of 11 models. SE also has Wi-Fi 6 which will future proof it a bit. 5G seems like it will be years off to be meaningful. Overall very pleased with the SE especially since I received $170 trade in value for my 8. The Red is stunning.

For security purposes, my phone is not accessible while locked (including Siri).

Per the subject of the thread, I have no regrets with the new SE (coming from original SE). I am light phone user and I have plenty of battery at the end of the day. I appreciate the better speakers, better RAM and processor.

I'm not understanding the appeal of a solid glass phone, so breakable, and not a cheap repair. Blows my mind that people are drawn to such a thing. Sticking with the iPhone 7 line.

Wireless charging is useful and most people use a case or are careful with their phones. It’s not so much people being drawn to the glass back but the many other improvements you get with the SE.

To be fair I have an iPhone X and I’ve dropped it a tone and it only recently got a hairline crack. I don’t use cases either since I have AppleCare Plus

With the recent hot rumours of the 5.4” iPhone 12 being the flat-sided, full screen, reasonably-priced compact powerhouse a lot of original SE fans had been clamouring for, I would predict the regrets probably won’t be a thing until September. ;)
The SE2 is inexpensive enough (especially with Walmart deal) that I'm perfectly happy to keep it as a backup phone in case I decide to get the 5.4" iPhone 12.

Definitely considering it on AT&T since it seems they have 5G coverage in my area (Los Angeles). AT&T LTE where I work is around 5-10 Mbps down, 1-2 Mbps up which sucks when I'm tethering the laptop and need to sync Dropbox.

I upgraded from a 6s. No regrets since I gave my daughter the 6s asa first phone. The only thing I hate is I can’t long hold and reply from a text on the notification screen like I used to. Sometimes it was preferable than going and logging in and having to open up messages.
This was more done in cases where I was going somewhere and was wondering when I was going to be there or replying to if I could pick something up. It was nice for quick answers not conversations. I miss having the option.

I’mon a 6s and Didn’t realize that functionality has been removed. 3D Touch will be sorely missed.

Considering the price point of the SE, there's very little to regret. If the 5.4" is what it's cracked up to be, It could be an 'in addition to', and not an 'instead of'.

Why? You want to shoot or look at some NSFW material? ;)

My ONLY phone is a work phone.
Actually the Italian horror and Asian wuxia I watch do have some NSFW material in them, but that‘s not the issue. I moved all those films onto my iPad. ;)

I’ve never had to use a personal phone as a work phone before, and I enjoy the SE so much I wish it wasn’t my work phone. So it being a work phone, I tend to ignore it once I am off work. I am not a two phone person, so I compromise.

It is a great phone though.

I really do wish Apple had support for multiple user profiles for non-EDU customers. Sure would be convenient if I could have work and personal (and guest) profiles on my iOS devices.

Hate to burst your bubble but the 5.4" iPhone 12 won't be flat sided and won't get the redesign reminiscent to the iPhone 4/5/iPad Pros.

That design will be reserved for the iPhone 12 Pros. There's no way in hell Apple will release four phones in the fall that all look the same...

Got mine on launch day also no regrets the differences for me were minor since i upgraded from an iPhone 8.

The reason to upgrade was for the dual sim ability as well as further future proofing against future iOS updates

The only annoyance I've found is that screen protectors don't work correctly like they have done on the iPhone 8 but aside from that been happy with the device.
There's more to future proofing the iPhone SE 2020 edition than just future ios updates and Dual Sim(esim). You also get Gigabit Class LTE,Wifi 6, A13 CHIP, Express Transit with Power Reserve, 3GB of Ram, all lacking in the iPhone 8.

The rear camera is different and improved on the SE 2020 edition vs iPhone 8.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone SE both have a single 12MP, camera with 1.8 aperture along with 5x digital zoom. The iPhone SE 2020 edition is now able to do Portrait Mode (limited to people), Portrait Lighting, Smart HDR, and QuickTake video, all of which are not available on the iPhone 8. Also the iPhone SE 2020 edition front camera can now take portrait videos with the front camera (couldn't do that on iPhone 8).

The SE has Apple’s A13 Bionic chip, while the iPhone 8 is powered by the A11 Bionic chip.
The iPhone 8 has 2GB of RAM. Now, the SE 2020 edition iPhone has 3GB of RAM.

Both the iPhone 8 and the iPhone SE 2020 edition are IP67 rated for water and dust resistance which allows them to go into water up to 1 and a half meters for up to 30 minutes. Both the iPhone 8 and the new iPhone SE 2020 edition can do wireless charging. They also both have the same stereo speakers, Apple Pay via NFC, and Bluetooth 5. The SE 2020 edition iPhone has the new Wifi 6 standard 802.11/a/b/g/n/ac/ax. Whereas, the iPhone 8 has the old wifi 5 standard 802.11/a/b/g/n/ac.

Info on wifi 6 and why its awesome https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/21/18232026/wi-fi-6-speed-explained-router-wifi-how-does-work

Gigabit-class LTE:was first included/introduced on the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Also included on 11,11 Pro, 11 Pro MAX, and now on the iPhone SE 2020 edition

The iPhone 8,iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X got the LTE Advanced modem which supports theoretical speeds up to 600Mbps
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus got the LTE Advanced modem which supports theoretical speeds up to 450 Mbps
The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, got LTE Advanced modem that supports theoretical speeds up to 300 Mbps
The iPhone 6/6 Plus got LTE-Advanced that supports theoretical speeds up to 150 Mbps

dual SIM (eSIM): was first included/introduced on the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Also included on 11,11 Pro, 11 Pro MAX, and now included in the iPhone SE 2020 edition

The A13 chip, Wi‑Fi 6 802.11ax, are 2 new features first introduced/included on the iPhone 11,11 Pro, and 11 Pro MAX and now on the new iPhone SE 2020 edition.

FYI: iPhone X, iPhone 8 and previous generation iPhones do NOT get Express Card with Power Reserve.

Express Cards with Power Reserve feature which is included in the iPhone SE 2020 edition also included in the ‌iPhone XS, 11‌ and 11 Pro, allows for authentication of Express Transit cards even when an ‌iPhone‌'s battery is exhausted. It can also be used for the "CarKey" function that Apple has in the works which will let an ‌iPhone‌ serve as an alternative to a traditional car key in vehicles that support the feature.

Lets not forget the iPhone SE 2020 edition supports more bands than the iPhone 8:

iPhone SE 2020 FDD-LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 29, 30, 66, 71)
TD‑LTE (Bands 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 46, 48)

iPhone 8: FDD-LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 29, 30, 66)
TD‑LTE(Bands 34, 38, 39, 40, 41)

Overall the iPhone SE 2020 is a great iPhone especially for the price.

Only the iPhone 11,11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, and now the New SE 2020 edition iPhone have wifi 6.
Also the iPad Pro 2020 is the only iPad to get wifi 6 standard 802.11/a/b/g/n/ac/ax.

This is a rumor and it’s not confirmed. Not by Ming-Chi Kuo, not by Jon Prosser.

Actually it’s the opposite of what Jon prosser has said in his recent reports. His leaks are pretty accurate, as well as his sources.

His last video is all about the 5.4 inch and it’s square design, just like the pro’s.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. 🤷‍♂️

I have an iPhone SE on order and was planning on using my old iPhone 8 screen protectors.

Apologies for my ignorance but what is the issue with screen protectors? Have googled this without much success.

Is there a real difference on the front glass of the iPhone SE from the iPhone 8?

The new SE has slightly different curve along the edge but enough for iPhone 8 screen protectors to not stick properly giving halo effect.

Yep! After years of nearly perfect screen protector applications I thought I might be going crazy yesterday when none of the 3 protectors I tried to install were fully adhering to the 2020 SE screen.

Think I read in another MR thread that the 2020 SE's front glass begins curving .11 MM short of where the 6/7/8 glass does even though Apple told accessories manufacturers that dimension specs were the same.

To be perfectly honest, I do regret buying the SE (actually, bought 2. 1 for my SO) but not enough for me to return it.

I upgraded from a 6S and that phone was dying on me since day 1. The battery on that phone is gotta to be the worst since the launch of the original iPhone. I was super excited to get the phone and preordered the second it came out. Luckily, I got mine on launch day and it was the best iPhone I've ever used. Obviously.

The first sign of regret came in the camera department. After taking a few pictures and read through iFixit's teardown, I realized that this camera is exactly the same module from the 8 along with some A13 software magic. Unfortunately, as powerful as the A13 might be, it still didn't have night mode or deep fusion. Low light photos are garbage as far as 2020 is concerned.

Secondly, the battery life is much better than my 6S but not by much. It will last maybe 4-5 hours on screen so a full day at best. It's definitely no XR or 11.

Thirdly, I'm really tired of the design. I thought if the camera and battery was better than I expected, then I would suck it up and deal with it. But after almost 5 years of using the 6S, I didn't realize I reached my limit until I held the SE in my hand. However, I do love Touch ID after all these years. I have Face ID on my iPad pro but it just isn't as tactile as Touch ID. Being able to use Touch ID while wearing a mask is huge plus, but I suppose I shouldn't even be touching my phone when I'm out. LOL

At the end of the day, I wish I looked for a deal on a refurb iPhone 8. That would've costs around $200 to $300 (maybe even less) and it's practically the same phone. I don't think Apple will drop support for A11 anytime soon, so iPhone 8 would've held me over for another 2 years easily. It still has wireless charging, IP67 resistance, same battery life, (practically) same camera, and the same aesthetics. Oh, also 3D touch! (if you care) Let's just focus on the user experience other than comparing a bunch specs, I think anyone looking to buy a SE today can be perfectly served by an iPhone 8.

Oh but the centered Apple logo though. Bomb diggity.
