Thought I might ask this seeing it's been out for a while. and opinions have formed, first impressions faded etc.

I can pick up a RAZR now for £99. It's a pretty damn good deal I think, haven't seen it cheaper anywhere else. and I remember hearing there was a great rush for this phone. So my question... is it any good? Any phone, feature wise, will be an improvement from my current Siemens M55. Ideally I want MP3 playback for when my iPod was left at home accidentally and bluetooth. I couldn't care less about photos or videos, maybe playback for when I make the odd small video or something.

Is this phone still providing you guys with plenty of loving? or did it go downhill? One of my mates said that the battery life was a bit funky. which might be a bit of a problem for me. but we'll see.
 
I used my Razr V3 for about six months before I replaced it with a Sony Ericsson S710a. I much/B] prefer my S710a. The razr was convenient because of its size, but it was lacking in phonebook capabilities and the camera was terrible. I was also disheartened that the UI had not changed or improved at all from previous models. I had three motorolas in a row, and after using a Sony Ericsson, I'll never go back.

My wife, on the other hand, loves her razr and I'm sure she'll remain loyal to Motorola. She's much more a creature of habit though.

Yea I was going to ask if I could use photos for when people ring up, can both displays show a photo? what about individual ringtones for different people too?
 
FWIW, I like my RAZR quite a bit, but I would never get it from Verizon if I had it to do over again. I realize you're in the UK, just make sure you get it from a carrier that doesn't cripple their phones if you decide to get a RAZR. You should have full Bluetooth capabilities (inc. file transfer) and Java.
 
It can play MP3's as ringtones right? and has it got a Transflash slot, and how big is the internal memory?

My RAZR has total space of 6863Kb and yes it can play MP3's as ringtones.

Personally i love my RAZR even thou the OS can be a bit laggy at times.

Main reason i got it is for size so it fits in breast pocket of jacket with wallet. My other phone couldn't and it always ended up falling on the ground.

However just now it shut off for some odd reason :eek: :(

Note to self: Never talk about it while it knows it is being talked about....

It wasn't anything major, mostly just a nuisance. I too wanted to take advantage of the photo called ID feature, but whenever I'd attach a photo to someone's number, it would lag my phonebook as I tried to scroll thru them too call one. They'd show up fine on the front LCD but the time it took to get to their number was the problem.

I can't say the SE is any better, however. It still has a terribly slow phonebook, but at least it doesn't display the caller ID photos when scrolling.

I swear, one thing I wish they could freakin' integrate is the ability to set up caller groups and move between them in the phonebook. I have my contacts in groups right now, but I have to go into settings to pick a group. :mad:

Allright... that isn't cool at all.

I have a two year old nokia now and it's blaizingly fast with the phonebook. No camera though, and polyphonic ringtones, but its a phone, has amaizing reception, and has lasted me through some of the more destructive years of my life without needing to be replaced.


I love the Nokia interface... I just with they had cooler phones

Yeah I also liked the Nokia interface, but I was willing to put up with the SE's lag because of the photo quality. It's not perfect, by any means, but it's great for snapping quick pics.

I did play with some of the newer SE phones and the interface was much quicker. I've even been told that the newer firmware version for my phone cleans it up a lot, but nobody locally can upgrade the firmware for me, and I'm too chicken to try one of those cables on my own.
 
I'm really not a fan of Nokias, I just feel they try too hard on the look front and come out with phones that wish they were Xelibri. Never been fond of their GUI or naming scheme either :eek:

Well I'm off too Manchester tomorrow morning to find a nice one. Seems the general consensus for the phone is good.

I love my RAZR in general, in large part because it's magenta. :eek: But I do have to say that I'm nonplussed by the phone book. It's a step down from Symbian on my Nokia. First, even though the phone has 7 or 8 MB of ram, it's limited in what can be used for the phone book. I had to create a group in my Address Book and limit numbers that would go on my cell because not all the data could fit in the address book. :mad: And also, it seems to have some weird system of picking default numbers, so I end up with a bunch of people whose default numbers are e-mail addresses or fax machines. :rolleyes: But I've taken care of those two problems.

The only residual problem right now is that, AFAICS, there's no way to organize names by last name short of swapping everyone's first and last name in Address Book. And the "search" feature jumps to the first contact with the name in question -- so you basically cannot search by last name (or if I did flip, I couldn't search by first name).

That aspect is much better handled by Symbian.

But I'm happy with my RAZR overall. Very happy. :)
 
get a v3i.

the v3i basically has a decent camera and a memory card slot, it's basically the v3 with it's flaws fixed.
 
I had a look at that, sure it's a better phone but I don't really want to be paying more than £100 for a phone. I just don't use them enough to warrant that sort of price :eek:
 
I really don't like the RAZRs. Other than being thin, there is little else that is good about them. I used my dad's for a while and found the interface awful and unintuitive. I'm not really a big fan of the way they look either - the big chunky bit at the bottom just doesn't look good IMO. That's just what I think, and I know a lot of people disagree, but meh.
 
I LOVE LOVE LOVE :) :) :) mine. I got black of course, no other color! My only beef is that it makes a very weird buzzing noise in the earpiece (only I can hear it, not the caller). But otherwise, definently worth it!

I was going to get the black Razr, but I decided on silver so that my phone could match my car and more importantly, my Power Mac G5! :D :D

Hah, exactly my thoughts. I thought about getting a silver one to match my DS, my PowerBook, my amp and my mouse. Sort of my portable gadgets. But I just can't turn down that black one :(

Anywho. off to town in a bit. My heart is telling me to go for a SLVR instead, as I can pick up a sim free one for £120, which would not be bad at all with that memory expansion port (big, BIG thing for me... I think I've said.). Though a RAZR for the right price would be a very good buy I reckon.
And my head? my head is telling me to stick with my perfectly working old phone. It also tells me that if I buy a new phone my mum will kill me. even though I'm working, have a student loan and am 20 years old. :D

But the OS is still as crappy as the V3.

My RAZR (standard v3) certainly does.

I'm quite pleased with the phone but the caller ID is very very annoying. If I have the numbers in the phone book in 070 0000 0000 (i.e. without country code) format the callers name shows up if it's a phone call but not on text messages. If its in +4470 0000 0000 format in the phonebook the ID shows up on texts but not on phone calls. Phones I've had in the past have had no problem differentiating between +4470.... and 070 so why can't this thing do it?
