Must still be indexing an hour later...(played around with it for 30 mins, then made this post).

So its still has some noticeable lag on my iPhone 6.

One good thing is that for whatever reason, Handoff works without any glitches. After one year, Apple finally made Handoff/Continuity actually useable without having to go through all the trouble of turning off/on bluetooth/resetting devices, etc.

That works nice.

Dumb question, but what exactly is indexing?

Aside from minor lag in the app switcher, the release build of iOS 9 seems great. I didn't notice any issues with the GM build either, but this does seem slightly faster.

It typically refers to iOS collecting information in the background for spotlight search and other new functions, it will take a decent chunk of performance away while it's running resulting in app launch delays and lag. iOS 9 probably collects more new information for spotlight than all the other updates put together so the cost of indexing is very noticeable.

Very stuttery on my iPad mini 2. Transitions, spotlight, multitasking carousel, sometimes keyboard rising and fading, all stuttery. After originally hesitating to update my 5S, it's updating right now so I can see if it is just a problem with the iPad, A7 devices, or what.

This might be the slowest os ever. Feels like they turned the animation speeds down 10x. Anyway to go back to iOS 8?

the more i use my ipad air 2, the worse it seems... also, keyboard is laggy, when i tipe fast as i did before, sometimes it misses the letters. i have to correct sentences very often, also when i'm writing this message.

in addition, switching between the apps with the multigesture is VERY slower than before.
i'm so disappointed...

Well, just updated my iPhone 5S and it's just as fast as on iOS 8 it seems. iPad mini 2 is still very laggy and stuttery. Seems iOS 9 was better engineered for the iPhone than the iPads. Hopefully a forthcoming software update will fix it. Was planning to keep my mini for a while longer.

I notice a small delay when opening apps for the first time on iOS 9. After that, they are fine.
And all the framerate drops I got in Safari menus in iOS 8 are now gone. Finally I can use my bookmarks without feeling the need to throw my iPad out of the window :D

I'm rocking iOS 9 on my iPad 4, by the way :)

well, i remember that also ios 7 on the release was better optimized for iphones than for ipads... the animations on my ioad 3 were ugly at the time, but ios 7.1.2 (released in february if i'm not wrong!!!) solved it...

i think ipad air 2 has enough power to run ios9 smoothly, so let's wait...

I feel the same with my 5S and Air 2!

My 5S as of now feels just like 8.4.1. But my iPad Air 2 has a lot more stuttering and such.

I think I notice it on my Air 2 because I pretty much use gestures exclusively. And with gestures it's easy to notice slow downs.

Even though some Apple fans swore it wasn't.

Going to try a fresh install now to see if its any less laggy on my iPhone 6.

Getting the iPad 1 form iOS 4.3 to iOS 5 vibe. Not as unusable but pretty damn annoying.

Useable? Yes

Does it feel like a blazing fast and modern OS on an iPhone that was just released a year ago? Nope.

Seems like iOS 9 was made for the newest iPhones/iPads which is disappointing because in the past, it took about 2 cycles before devices would seen noticeable slowness.
The 6 Plus had noticeable slowness right out of the box one year ago at release.
