Do you have a wifi 6 router? Planning to upgrade to one day 1? Will everybody else?

I'm a network nerd and I couldn't care less about wifi 6 to be honest. WIFI N or AC is fast enough for most stuff and the stuff it isn't fast enough for I want a wired connection.

Work? Still on wireless N.... as with most public hotspots, etc.

WIFI 6 would be nice I guess as a future thing, but in terms of whether it will be worth waiting for.... nope. By the time it is commonplace (and make a significant difference to your day to day) you'll be wanting another MacBook upgrade.
You're right. I thought having a WIFI 6 chip would have some benefits for older routers as well but that doesn't seem to be the case. I guess there really isn't much they can do with the new 16 inch, other than maybe some faster ram lol.

The 16 inch will be faster regardless, because of the dGPU. But it weight a ton, as I mentioned above, get a 13 inch, and if budget allows get a 10th gen.
Weight a ton??? Right from the Apple website "Weight: 4.3 pounds (2.0 kg)". For comparison the 13 inch MacBook Pro 3.1 pounds (1.4 kg). We’re talking a 1.2 pound (0.6 kg) difference

I bet if you started going to the gym now you'll be able to lift it by the time it arrives ??

Maybe weight a ton was a bit over exaggerated, but there definitely is a difference, I have both.

1.2 pounds is about the weight of having a soda in your bag. It's a small difference I guess. I think the size difference would be a bigger issue though.

I think at the top end its a very simple answer - the 16" is the "best" laptop Apple make. Its only compromise is its footprint which makes it unwieldy. In every objective sense though, its the best one.

Things get more confusing when you go down the line if you don't need the most powerful laptop you can get.

We've got two of those on the go in the company and I don't think the weight is an issue (assuming you're able-bodied) at all, its the footprint of the device which is a constraint. But only if you're using it on the move where space is at a premium

That's going to please all those suffering throttling on the 16" with external displays connected :( Personally I'm going to hold off until next year as I don't see much benefit to upgrade this year, beyond a more powerful dGPU in the W10 notebooks.

If anything I like to give AMD a shot and see how they fair as reports look strong with equally performance to Intel with lower power budgets .

Q-6

Care to elaborate on this "throttling" you speak of on 16"?

I've yet to see one person showing their machine "throttling"

As that's news to this 16" owner unless you are talking about previous 15"...

I am aware of some here complaining it got hot (but did not trigger throttling in use), and or other things related to an external monitor though I've not experienced it and I don't recall reading anyone saying it was throttling.

Quite the contrary as ALL reviewers commented on how new fans and heat dissipation has fixed that from previous 15".

But maybe you know something I don't regarding this?

Received my base 16" pro this week after having the 2020 i5/512gb I returned this week as well. Very happy with my decision, its one of the best computers I've owned, and I've had alot. Much more capable and powerful compared to the air, and I love the screen size.

Agree throttling is too harsh, equally they do run hot with an external display and that can impact performance for some, so a more power hungry CPU won't help unless Apple bolsters the cooling.

Surely the only thing it impacts is the fans being on 100% and a bit noisy?

I get something seems to be "up", but apart from something being "up" is it actually faulty and not working as advertised.
