Just got my iPhone 11. I have that, an iPP 11”, an iMac and an Apple Watch. I WANT a mini 5 too - trying to see where/how it would fit, and if it would get enough use to justify it.

What I probably should’ve done is gone with the smaller iPhone pro because then I could have a mini 5, and bump my iPP to a 12.9. I really thought with the 11” iPP, I’d use it more away from the desk, but with the keyboard folio on it, I wind up using it at the desk or table, and never really using it elsewhere. If I’m not gonna have it as my portable device, I should just have the 12.9 for more screen real estate. I think I’d really like toting around a smaller phone, but since I wind up using my phone in bed because my iPP is too big, I have stuck with the 11.

What’s your ideal iOS device lineup?

ipad mini 5, imac 2017 ,samsung phone, no watch.. i prefer normal watch which i can easily exchange everyday..

Before, I would've said 7.9" 4:3 iPhone/iPad mini with phone functionality.

Now though, the following setup is working really well and I kinda don't want to consolidate anymore:
4.7" iPhone (mostly for camera)
10-11" class iPad (primary device)
12.9" iPad (American comics, PDFs, split view)

My ideal (and not currently possible) iOS lineup would be:

- Apple Watch without iPhone pairing requirement
- iPad mini upgraded to bezel-less form
- iPad Pro 12.9"

That set of devices, if ever realized, would fit my preferences and workflows perfectly.

I’d like a bezeless iPad Mini to complement my iPP 12.9. Those would be my only two Apple mobile devices. I prefer my OnePlus phone and Garmin watch. My Macbook Pro I only use transiently for video/photo editing - otherwise I’m fine with my Windows 10 mobile workstation.

I have the Xs, IPP 10.5 which I use for work, AW 4 and Mini 5 which I use around the house and traveling. I have not had the need to upgrade my 2011 MBP which I still use to burn my DVDs.

My current setup is -
- iPhone 11 Pro (upgraded from max size for ease of use out and about, plus the camera & battery improvements)
- iPad 9.7” (2017 model, good enough for me for lounging & media consumption on flights)
- MacBook Pro 13” (2019 model, my main workhorse)
- MacBook Air 13” (2013 model, for when I’m travelling)
- Apple Watch S4 44 mm (Always, everyday)

Edit - oops didn’t realise it was iOS only thread.

What I would like to have
~ iPhone 11 Pro - currently the smallest phone with the features I want, messaging, consumption of scrolling feed sources, on the go info.
~ iPad Pro 12.9 - main compute device, can lose my desktop and setup shop on the couch, desktop websites, photo/video editing, illustration, also nice and light to travel with.
~ Apple Watch

My current setup is AW S4 Cellular + iPhone XS Max (and MacBook Pro that I use for work). But just like okieoutwest, the perfect combo for me would be AW cellular + iPad Mini/Pro 11. Unfortunately we are still few years behind since the Apple Watch can’t be paired with the iPad and also ipadOS is missing 2 crucial apps in my opinion: Wallet and Health. Also, watchOS is not ready yet. But yeah since I got my Apple Watch cellular I am barely using my iPhone when I’m not at home (to the point I don’t bring it with me anymore when I go out)... and iPad is a superior device for consuming content/browsing the web at home.

I went through a few different variations - at one point I had my work issue iPhone 6s, an iPad mini 4, iPad Pro 9.7 and an iPad Pro 12.9 - all of which I thought fit their own use cases. The mini 4 was my travel companion and I had it in my work bag for occasional use at work. The Pro 9.7 was my main go to device at home as I found it the most comfortable size to us for the Internet and some occasional work. The Pro 12.9 was my media consumption device and also used for photo and video editing. I also used this when doing more extensive work with a Bluetooth keyboard and didn't want to sit at my Mac in the office. I also had a Macbook Pro which I enjoyed but wasn't using it enough to justify.
After a trip to Vegas, I realised just how compromised the mini 4 was for my main device while away from home so sold it as soon as I got home. I also hated how I would be working on some editing work on the 12.9 which never left the house but had some time out and about where I could have got some more editing done.
I decided that even 2 iPads, nevermind 3 was first world excessive so made a conscious decision to consolidate to a single iPad.
Today I just use my iPhone, iPad Pro 11 and a Mac Mini for home server/work requirements.
I don't miss the iPad mini at all. There are times when I would still like the 12.9 for editing/consumption at home but the Pro 11 does all I need and is working well for me.

My current setup is my favourite to date, and I only last week made the final adjustments.
- iPhone X
- iPad Pro 12.9 (2nd Gen) (Cellular)
- Apple Watch S4
- iPad Mini 5 (WiFi Only).

Sold my 2013 MBP last week (as it sat on a shelf unused for over a year) and used the money to pick up the Mini 5. I love the 12.9 Pro, but its just too big and cumbersome to travel with or contend with day to day outside of my apartment. The Mini 5 fills this role perfectly, and with Apple Pencil support its become my notebook at work.

If I was building the setup from scratch now, the Pro would be WiFI only, the Mini would be cellular.

Well, I only bought another iMac this year. I had gone several years with iPad only when I had my first two 12.9 pros. Ultimately, there were a very few things I could not do without a computer, and I also had some work from home opportunities with my p/t job that encouraged me to get the iMac, plus I figured it would be a good tax write-off, so it was a win-win.

The thing is, I really rarely turn it on. I typically use the 11” iPP for everything. I just don’t particularly like sitting with it in my lap to do stuff, and wind up using my phone. I also don’t really want to read in bed with it, but my phone is too small for that.

I do feel like, at this point, it would likely be overkill, but I really want one so I guess I’m just trying to justify it. ;-p

Currently:

IPhone 11 128gb
Ipad air 3 with smart keyboard case
MBP13 with touch bar
S4 watch 40mm

The only thing I'd like to add is a decent monitor to use the MBP more effectively as a docked desktop. I keep being tempted by the discontinued MB 12, which some retailers still have kicking around.

iPhone SE and 9.7" iPad. Steve had it right. Both are cheap, easy to repair, easy to hold in normal human hands, and together they do it all! I've tried everything, and these are the devices I always return to, along with my base model 2015 15" MacBook Pro.

I have the SE and mini 5 lte. I haven't had a laptop or desktop for the past few years, and with iPadOS I'll have even less of a need for one (mainly for downloading torrents...). Ideally, I would just like a pro style mini.

After many buying and selling Apple devices, now I found my best setup like this;

5K iMac
iPhone XS Max
Apple Watch SS
Airpods 2
iPad Pro or just normal iPad (gonna buy an ipad soon)

I have 3 iPads, they have different uses ... the 12.9 is home use only, and only wifi, I use this for writing, movies, photo editing, browsing. love the screen size. The 10.5 was my on the go machine and sometimes still is, but mostly the mini 5 takes care of that now. I wouldn’t have it as my only iPad, but for mobility it is perfect with cellular. I use the 10.5 when it is better suited to the task than the 12.9, I still love this iPad, it is a great size, perfect on the sofa, or as a companion to the 12.9 when writing, for research, notes, etc.
Don’t use my MacBook much any more, and use my SE only as a phone. Looking forward to all the new possibilities with ios13.

My ideal setup:
iPad Pro 12.9 1TB LTE
iPad Mini Pro 7.9 128 GB LTE (this would be an ipad mini sized pro, with pencil 2, upgraded speakers, and the design language and reduced bezels of the current 12.9 model)
Apple Watch LTE 4 or 5

How would you envision using Wallet or Health on an iPad? In my usage, the Watch is totally sufficient, but I am also not really putting either app through their paces. Curious to learn if there's some interesting use cases I'm not thinking of. I've successfully traveled through multiple airports using the tiny QR in mobile boarding passes in the Watch Wallet app, for example, but don't really use Health much.

I use both the wallet and health apps on my iPhone and the watch a lot. Here are my use cases -

Wallet -
- Apple Pay
- Boarding Passes
- Trip Booking details
- hotel booking details
- discount cards

Health -
- workout sessions
- calorie burn details
- daily water intake measurement
- daily food intake measurement

What’s your ideal iOS device lineup?

A couple of months ago I had the following device lineup (in the order I purchased them):

Mac Mini (late 2012)
iPhone 7+
MBP 13-inch (late 2016)
Apple Watch S3
iPad 2018

iPadOS was the game changer for me. I purchased the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) two months ago and it has become my favorite computing device. I donated my Mac Mini and iPad 2018 to grateful family members that needed upgrades to the old Apple devices I gave them previously. I have started using the iPad Pro to do more of my work related tasks (tech support) and hope to eventually sell the MBP 13-inch if iPadOS functionality becomes sufficient to allow me to do so. My ideal lineup would be:

iPad Pro 12.9
Apple Watch (S5 is coming tomorrow hopefully)
iPhone (size similar or close to SE model)

Sometimes I think I might like a smaller sized iPad for portability but I think the loss in screen space would annoy me. The weight of a caseless 12.9 iPad Pro (2018) is not too heavy for long term use in my opinion.

I’m really wondering if iOS 13 will pretty much make my need for iMac obsolete again. What I THINK my ideal would be, if I didn’t need the iMac at all, is iPP 12.9, mini 5, my iPhone 11, and my AW.

I guess time will tell.

I have the exact same setup and am planning on buying an iPad soon! Great minds think alike, ha!
I know I want the Pro, but I can’t decide between the 10.5, 11 or 12..
