This thread really makes me sad that people think a portable device with other Apple portable device is a setup......

Now this is a setup!

I turned 48 last year and my eyes decided all small things are now... too small. For that reason, I have gone larger with all my devices over the last couple years.
First iPhone XS Max (not gonna upgrade to the new 11 Pro since photos aren’t something I care much about)
Second: 2018 MacBook Pro 15 to replace my 12” MacBook.
Third: Early this year I upgraded my 9.7” iPad Pro to the newest 12.9 and I LOVE it!
And, hopefully, fourth: Want to get the 5th gen GPS Apple Watch with bigger screen to replace my gen 0 model in a couple months.

Then... I will own all the big Apple stuff! 😁

1. Now you just need the 27” iMac and you really will 😆
2. I have the series 4. I upgraded from the 2 and wow what a jump! The OLED screen alone is worth the change!

My current setup really covers all bases:

1) iPhone X 5.8" for everyday use when out and about. The perfect size!
2) iPad for consumption. Currently the Air 2 but will most likely go for the 11" Pro at some point.
3) MacBook Air 13" Retina for productivity. Thin, lightweight design, always silent and cool to the touch.

4) Apple Watch Series 4 as a bonus to keep track of my workouts and Strava rides.

Out of all my setups I've had I prefer this one the most. Sold my iMac 27" and AppleTV as I no longer needed either.

Wow, I'm really flying through this video editing. Okay, time for the airport, think I'll finish my video edit in the departure lounge and on the flight. Oh wait.....
Buying an iPad and pairing it to an iPhone is not a setup. It's two devices that are portable. Adding an Apple Watch, a pencil, and headphones does not make it a setup either.

What I posted is a setup. But I guess MR lurks have no talent and think purchasing a product that requires literally no setup or thought process to assemble is a setup.

In reality all it is, is fanboyism.

You’ve come into a thread titled “what’s your ideal iOS setup?”, posted a picture of a PC and complained about people talking about their iOS setups.

It’d be like one of these fanboys going into a thread titled “name your ideal motherboard+CPU+GPU combo“ and posting a picture of their iPhone saying “now thats a good combo”.

Right now I’m sitting out on my deck typing on my beloved third-generation 12.9 iPad....she has cellular data so that, even though she doesn’t leave home, when we have a power outage I can still use her.

The iPad Mini 5 (also with cellular data) is sitting inside the house getting used to her new installation of iPad iOS..... The iPhone XS and X are also still relaxing indoors as well. Each device has its own purpose and each gets used on a daily basis one way or another. The iPad Mini 5 is the one who travels with me and the 12” MacBook. Perfect for this situation and also perfect for sticking into my purse for going out-and-about around my home area. I can read things so much more easily on the iPad and also can type much more easily on it, too, than I can the iPhone.

That said, there are still things that I prefer to do on my Macs, even though iOS 13 has made some significant changes (most of which I haven’t yet explored). For me right now, my ideal iOS setup is the 12.9 iPad, the iPad Mini and the iPhone. I’ll soon be replacing the iPhone X with a new iPhone 11 Pro, but that day hasn’t come yet. The XS will shift down in position but will still remain an important part of the household.

My Macs are still a hugely significant part of how I spend a day online and as of right now I cannot imagine depending solely on iOS devices. Maybe in another few years.....

Just got my iPhone 11. I have that, an iPP 11”, an iMac and an Apple Watch. I WANT a mini 5 too - trying to see where/how it would fit, and if it would get enough use to justify it.

What I probably should’ve done is gone with the smaller iPhone pro because then I could have a mini 5, and bump my iPP to a 12.9. I really thought with the 11” iPP, I’d use it more away from the desk, but with the keyboard folio on it, I wind up using it at the desk or table, and never really using it elsewhere. If I’m not gonna have it as my portable device, I should just have the 12.9 for more screen real estate. I think I’d really like toting around a smaller phone, but since I wind up using my phone in bed because my iPP is too big, I have stuck with the 11.

What’s your ideal iOS device lineup?

mine is almost there already... I just need a newer iMac.
Dream is:

Healthy Apple lineup for breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. 😉😂✌️
1.) iPhone XR (As my beta iPhone)
2.) iPhone Pro (As my alpha iPhone)
3.) iPad Pro 3 (primary editing machine)
4.) Apple TV (Best streaming box)
5.) 5K iMac 27” (secondary editing machine, and just having a desktop computer.)

I'm due for a massive top to bottom tech refresh that is as imminent as my paycheck will allow. But as far as the iOS/iPadOS sector, here's what it will look like:

iPads:

iPad mini 5 (wifi+cellular)
iPad Pro 12.9" (wifi)
iPad mini 4 (wifi) - I have this currently; it will likely remain solely for eBooks when and if the mini 5 is ever out of commission

iPhones:

iPhone 11 - As Activated Phone
iPhone 8 Plus - As secondary device of large-ish form factor that still has TouchID and a telephoto lens

iPod touch:

iPod touch 7th Gen - For my local music library (and the use of actual wired headphones)

Admittedly, the iPod touch and the iPhone 8 Plus are not at all necessities. But I'm a traditionalist and iOS enthusiast. The iPad mini 4 seems sensible to keep, especially given that I was without a portable (sub-9.7") e-reader earlier this year when I needed to study for IT certification exams. If I keep it around as a just-in-case I have that problem again, then I won't have that problem again. That and I likely won't make much money selling it at this point.

I currently got the Imac 27 inch 2017 entry level with 2 25'' ultrawides attached to it for multitasking, i also got 2 homepods set up next to it, with a Apple Watch Series 4 and a Iphone Xs Max 256 gig.

My current plan is to buy me an Ipad mini 5 with Cell for on the go field work, if they put out new Ipad Pros soon ill pick up a 256 gig wifi 12.9 and a brydge keyboard for it to act as a laptop, and i plan on trading in my Iphone xs max and my apple watch around the first of the year for the new Iphone 11 Pro Max 256 gig and the Series 5 aluminum (maybe with cell this time, im not sure yet)

iPad Pro 11
ipad Mini 5
iPhone 11 Pro
This is my current setup. Works great for me and I love my Mini 5.

Ideal but real? Or truly ideal even if not reality at the moment?

If real, it’s pretty much what I have, which is:
- Apple Watch. Mostly just for alerts. (But truly ideally, I just want an Apple fitness band. For my uses, I don’t need a full watch screen, and I prefer a smaller, more inconspicuous wearable with better battery life.)
- iPhone SE. I like having minimalist phone when I’m out. (Ideally, I liked the 4s form factor/size the most, and of course I’d want the hardware to be majorly upgraded as much as possible.)
- iPad mini. To take the place of my phone when at home, but better for consumption, which I prefer to do at home. (But ideally, I want it to be a little smaller, the size of the old Nexus 7, so that I can comfortably grasp it by its edges with one hand, and fit it in my back pocket to more easily tote it around the house. Not the Nexus’ 16:9 aspect ratio though, maybe 3:2.)
- 12.9” iPad Pro 2017. I prefer it over the newer model because I prefer Touch ID and thicker bezels. I use it for drawing and regular productivity. (But ideally, I’d want a 12” or 13” MacBook that could fold its keyboard back and the screen could support pen input, since I prefer Macs for productivity, but I require pen input. But I would want to keep that Sidecar functionality to use with my bigger MBP.)
- Apple TV (and TV). It’s what I prefer to watch most movies and shows on. (Hardware-wise, it’s pretty ideal as is.)

[I also have a 15” MacBook Pro and a Mac Mini that I use for things that iOS devices can’t do.]

I think I’d really like toting around a smaller phone, but since I wind up using my phone in bed because my iPP is too big, I have stuck with the 11.
Small phone, mini, and 12.9 iPP—I can confirm at least for me, it’s a pretty ideal setup! I can also confirm that my 12.9 stays connected to the ASK pretty much all of the time, except sometimes when I’m drawing. But for me, in addition to using it on a table/desk, I use it on my lap on the couch quite a bit as well, like a laptop.

I'm not sure why you think an ugly, obnoxious looking, and over priced/engineered gaming PC is more worthy of the word "setup". Perhaps you should look up the definition of the word.

Right now, just an 8+.

I need a bigger screen, and a larger phone will not do. The OLED displays are intense, too much for my eyes right now (and then there is the notch...)

Ideal would be a Mini 5 for commute & travel, plus a larger iPad for at home use.

Yes, I said iPads. They are what I use the most with some back up from my aging iMac. I am finding my peace with that.

Am hopeful I will get two that work great and I can draw on.

I have the exact same setup and am planning on buying an iPad soon! Great minds think alike, ha!
I know I want the Pro, but I can’t decide between the 10.5, 11 or 12..

Yess..!!! Buying an iMac and getting rid of the MacBook Pro was the best change for me, still I need a laptop/tablet and the new ipadOS looks enough for me on the go. I was waiting for the new ipad but it came with a 3 years old cpu. So, i might get an iPad Pro but its chassis doesn’t look strong enough. Now, I might wait for the upcoming iPad Pro. If you’re gonna get iPad Pro, get an 11” model, 12.9” might be too big. However, definitely there is no need for going with 10.5” if you’re not on lower budget.

What I would like to have
~ iPhone 11 Pro - currently the smallest phone with the features I want, messaging, consumption of scrolling feed sources, on the go info.
~ iPad Pro 12.9 - main compute device, can lose my desktop and setup shop on the couch, desktop websites, photo/video editing, illustration, also nice and light to travel with.
~ Apple Watch

I just did this.... sold my MBP and got a 12.9 inch iPP in its place. My work Dell laptop is always around so why not!

Aww yiss! I'm waiting for a iPad Pro refresh while I prep myself to make the move. Originally was going to add a NAS to the mix, but I don't really need it. Currently culling stuff I've hoarded and will give cloud storage a go with an external drive for local backup.

Though jumping in the deep end without a traditional computer to fall back on is a little scary! But I think I can manage.

My Apple Watch Series 1, although I now have a Series 4 for the ECG.
An affordable iPhone with an OLED screen and good camera, or basically next years iPhone 12 hopefully, currently have an XR.
And to replace my iPad Pro 9.7” the new 11” Pro with Apple Pencil 2 and probably the keyboard case.

I hope to achieve this setup. My series 1 watch was a gift I had no intention of replacing but due to health I got the ECG model, but I may get another small ECG solution.

if we are talking computers I’d love a new Mac Pro! But more realistic would be something like a 2015 iMac 5K and I would upgrade it.

My iPad Air is my main device and iPhone XR my phone. They work together in perfect harmony and are nearly more of a mirrored image of one another, with one being more handy / capable of the task at hand and time of the need for one of them.
