I believe these forums can be used to better inform consumers. Most of us are tech heads that enjoy bleeding edge tech. Not everyone that visits these forums actually register and post. So it's great to get the discussion started with current events. Currently that's smartwatches.

Your thread opened with nothing but bashing this board and 'Apple loyalists', in a broad attempt to instigate a flame war. BTW, the definition of vaporware does not apply to an Apple iWatch. Apple has never publically commented on, nor given reason to speculate about an iWatch.

Vaporware is a term in the computer industry that describes a product, typically computer hardware or software, that is announced to the general public but is never actually released nor officially cancelled.

There is no way that they have sold 800,000 to end users. Not a chance.

I get what the OP is saying though its silly that apple fans want to pretend like somehow galaxy gear is copying apple. Thats just silly.

I don't really care one way or another since I still don't really see the appeal of a smart watch yet, especially for the prices they are going for. I find glass more interesting than a smart watch currently, but don't see myself spending money on either for now.

That makes this conversation even weaker for the ones arguing Samsung copied a nonexistent device. So the Apple Smartwatche isn't even vaporware. It's just plain rumors from the fans. By that definition vaporware is a step up from rumors alone.

How do you know it wasn't built? Not like you would ever see it anyways. I can assure you they already have one of these laying around, or something very similar. Just as they have had multiple sized iPhones and iPads built and tested for years before they are released.

Here are some more prototypes Apple has laying around that nobody's ever seen. Just like iScroll I'm sure they exist

Not what I heard

Via Phandroid (An android site none the less)

"According to Business Korea, industry sources are now claiming that only a total of 50,000 Galaxy Gears have been sold globally, putting the device at about 800 to 900 units sold a day. "

Well appleinsider and Modmyi both report 800,000 sold.

Apple Insider

Modmyi

Either way, I would never buy one.

Yeah I won't be buying one anytime soon but upon further review, lots of people over at Phandroid are claiming that their information is wrong as well. So it could be closer to 800k I guess. Not that it really matters though. 800k shipped might as well be 800 sold, somebody has to pay for it.

Funny story though, when the sales lady went to retrieve my Note 3 from the back at my local Verizon store, she came back in tow with the Galaxy Gear. Thus ensued ....

Me - wow you guys are giving away free watches with a Note 3 purchase?

Sales lady - No, it's $299. Will you also be getting a Galaxy Gear today.

Me - ummm No, you can take it to the back now.

Apple is never first but the initial products they do are always the best from anyone. After that the other guys do a better job.

That's why I just switched to Android/ Samsung Note 3 recently.

When those companies fight for our $ it's good for us. We get better products every year.

Don't be a fanboy is my advice.

The initial products Apple does 'have been' the best. Since Jobs died, the lack of attention to detail has fallen. Way to many problems in QA, software, design and execution of launches. (One small example: The iPhone 5C has an Apple designed back cover with holes in it. Seems fine at a glance right? Well, Jobs would have never let the design go out as you see it. Notice how the iPhone logo/name and the holes of the case do not line up? Lack of attention to detail! Look below) When Jobs was alive, we knew everything from the font type to the look of the hardware would be precise. I miss Steve's OCD!

Did Samsung sell or ship 800k watches? Will we ever know? Smartwatches have very little appeal right now

My coworker has the Galaxy Gear. Not going to lie, I'm envious. It's a very nice smartwatch. I played with it for about 10 minutes and was impressed quickly. The size is much smaller than I expected. It's the size of an average mens watch and seems very productive for basic phone tasks.

Waiting for it to be compatible with the S4, but the things that might keep me away is the $300 price and it's not water resistant. Might just be better to wait for a newer model.

This very website has articles saying that ANALYSTS say that about the 3 different sizes. That means nothing. Analysts have been predicting the Apple TV (not the set box) for years now. Analysts are often wrong.

Ummm, no. Companies who are supplying Apple with those larger displays being made in plants overseas are saying that. I think they would know.

And we've been getting reports for those companies for years now, we don't always parse the leaves correctly. Sometimes it turns out to be wrong.

Actually, those are 'unnamed sources' referred to by 'analysts'. You will never find a company like Foxconn giving an 'official' statement regarding an unannounced Apple product. They risk NDA exposure and severe legal and financial penalties.

First line of that link:

Samsung Electronics’ latest advancements in technology, the Galaxy Round smartphone and the Galaxy Gear watch, have failed to gain the attention of domestic customers

Who do you think domestic customers are for a Korean blog?

If a product is not available to the public then what's the point? Even if Apple created something and never released it it's tough to criticize Samsung for releasing something similar. You ONLY options are Samsung or nothing.

Besides do you think Samsung catches wind of something Apple is making then steals the idea then releases it to the public the next day? Granted they can probably do production quicker since they can supply everything themselves and are the largest electronic manufacturer in the world.

Regardless point is I decide if I think something is a copy if I can hold one product in one hand and the other in my other hand. Not based off rumors and fan sites or imaginary prototypes.

I agree fully about that 5C case. As insanely detail oriented as Jobs was, no way in hell that final design would have been given the green light.

I don't dislike the 5C case, but it wouldn't have made it to production 4 years ago.
