The app presents less of a dislike which can be controlled in favorites.

I agree with many others. The stocks "News" app is sorely lacking in many regards. Newsify is the winning app, in my opinion.

Used newsify for a while, didn't like how the amount of space it used would quickly balloon due to image caches. Is it still an issue today?

No sorry not a user of MSN News. I like Heartfeed, Newsify and Feedly. On day to day basis I use Heartfeed (looks like the former Pulse News UI). Unfortunately none of the three apps offers a widget as far as I know.

I used Reeder to interact with my feedly RSS feeds.

I don't use the baked in news app/widget because I like to choose who's content I consider "news".
