So who still thinks web browsing is better on a laptop?

Give it a week for the fanboy/purchase justifications to cool down. Then maybe you can have a real discussion.
This has been the biggest surprise for me so far, as someone who has had an iPhone since day 1. I expected the web browsing to be good, but it's amazing. I keep being surprised when I remember that I don't need apps for a bunch of sites like I do for the iPhone since I can just go to the regular site. And with most of these sites, it's just so much easier to touch the link than to move the mouse and click on it.
There is something to be said for being able to just pick it up off the table, pretty much instantly unlock it and start safari, and browse away. Even though I have an MBP and an Air, I usually just kept my iPhone on the coffee table for quick browsing; the iPad is just as quick and convenient but of course with a much bigger screen.
Its alright, I was actually surprised I didn't use Safari for the first 4 hours of setting up my iPad. If I'm on my laptop I'll usually launch Firefox as soon as my screen flicks on. But then most the sites I visit have an app equivalent so there's little reason for me to use Mobile Safari.
It will be interesting to see how much adaption takes place for iPhone users, compared to those without iPhones.
I assume people who do not own iPhones would hit safari early and often. While it may take a while before iPad users get used to going to websites directly.
Although to be honest, I think I still might prefer pulling up the IMDB app over going to the website. I guess time will tell. I think one of the things some of these websites that have apps or build apps for the iPad is to allow a lot of personalization. I think that is where they could potentially up the ante and make the app more desirably then the web interface.
I am jealous though sitting in my office typing on my macbook pro, when I could be lounging in the other room watching season 6 of 24 while browsing on the iPad.

I like the web browsing, then again I also liked it on the iPhone. To me both are equally the same with the only difference being the larger screen of course. I don't think it's a laptop replacement but it can be a net book replacement then again with the higher expense going into an iPad maybe it's not a net book replacement if your in a budget. I do however like my iPad and will enjoy using it at my house the times I would normally use my iPhone. It will also replace my Kindle and be good for movies in bed.
I am surprised by how much I love web-browsing on my iPad. I think I will only use my MacBook Pro for Flash-sites now.
Everyone is buying iPads right now, and so companies are making their sites iPad friendly. I noticed ESPN has already done it. You can watch their embedded videos. I expect this will continue for most big sites.
Can you highlight a word and contextually select "Google Search" on the iPad? I use that constantly on my MacBook. I also have SafariStand on my MacBook, which lets you add any other search engine to the contextual menu. I have ebay and wikipedia in my menu and use them constantly. Kinda doubt the iPad can do that.
Honestly? No, I will not browse much with my laptop anymore. This is far better and much more enjoyable than a laptop.
Flash isn't good on anything. Been watching shows on the ABC app and battery life is amazing. Flash would've killed it.
Also impressed with the quality of the display. Far better than the MBA and MBP!
That would be nice, but no it doesn't. The fastest way to achieve the same effect is to copy and paste the word into the google search bar.
And all the quasi-trolls who just showed up.
I'm happy with the web-browsing experience, especially now that I have an adblocker/proxy server going. Still bordering on hatred for the keyboard, though.
Do you have the iPad? If not, you cannot comment. It's not about whether it can "do this" or "do that". You need to spend a day with it to see how enjoyable it is. I was asking if there were any current iPad owners that still prefer the mouse/trackpad way of surfing.
I'm not as savy as all of you mac pros here, but I can give my unbiased opinion of it and you can take it for what it is.
This truly is perfect; between a laptop and an iPhone. When you try it, it's a completely different experience than ever using an iphone or using a macbook. You just pick it up, and you're literally holding it right in the palm of your hands. I love that I now have all 5 seasons of Lost HD right in the palm of my hands and I could watch it while I was eating cheerios in my loung chair on the porch.
Keynote, Pages, and Numbers, from what I've used them so far, are truly amazing too. I have an iphone app called "eTextbooks" that I'm waiting for them to make it more iPad compatible so I can buy my college books for it rather than blowing it up 2x.
Weather HD is truly amazing also. Labrynth 2 HD is just pure awesomeness. I've had Labrynth since the day the orriginal came out.
If there's any apps you guys want me to buy and try, let me know and I"ll go ahead and do it. I have 100$ in iTunes cards left over to play with.

Me too. I mean, when I typed on the keyboard it, well, worked. But my brain and hands keeps refusing to believe that it works. Know what I mean?

Really? I'm surprised at how fast I can type on it. My speed hasn't really gone down at all. Not having to type commas is convenient. So is auto-correction of typos. Started out using my thumbs, like on an iPhone, then began to touch type using all my fingers, same as on a regular keyboard.
I'm getting the Final Draft iPad app when it comes out. Will attempt to write an entire screenplay on it. We'll see how that goes.

I don't really have a reason to use my laptop now except for writing music and maybe reports. The ipad is so great!
I'm enjoying the iPad and still getting used to it.
As for surfing the web, well, it seems like my iMac and MacBook are MUCH faster at loading pages, going backwards, etc.
Having said that, I'll enjoy being able to use the iPad for surfing in the living room rather than using the much bulkier MacBook.
