If there's any apps you guys want me to buy and try, let me know and I"ll go ahead and do it. I have 100$ in iTunes cards left over to play with.

The Elements looks awesome but I couldn't bring myself to spend the $14.99. Curious to hear what you think.

It depends, if it's just to check email really quick or "A" website, yes, I will use the iPad.

But otherwise I honestly prefer my 17" uMBP... especially because when I surf the web I'm usually listening to iTunes and have a few other apps working on things while I surf..

For me the iPad will basically replace my iPhone for when I'm sitting on the can... mainly because of the bigger screen...

Don't have/won't buy an iPad but I'm convinced that touchscreen browsing beats the pants off doing it on a laptop.

But I don't think it can be called the best - lack of Flash means it can't be the best. It'd be like BMW announcing the "Ultimate driving machine" and then not offering a petrol option. What about all the millions who don't like/want diesel cars?

Still seems odd to me that users aren't given the choice; "Enabling Flash may significantly reduce battery life. Would you like to enable Flash? OK/Cancel" is all it needs.

I agree that the option should be there but it isn't a deficiency in the hardware or OS. It's a intentional decision that Apple made. You can criticize that decision but you can't criticize the device itself. The iPad is a great piece of hardware with amazing software built into it.

I tend to agree but Apple will never offer Flash because it is such a resource hog.

The iPhone browser doesn't compare to this...it is almost useless for me because of it's small size and it's slow speed. The iPad is perfect for browsing.

I don't know what it is but surfing with the iPad feels natural to me. Maybe because it mimics the books and magazines. So far I like it. I can see my self using iPad to surf the web most of the time.

You can listen to iTunes while surfing the web on the iPad. When I'm working on other apps in my main machine, I'll just have my iPad by my side with safari open. Wouldn't that be more convenient than switching back and forth on your laptop?

There is something to be said for being able to just pick it up off the table, pretty much instantly unlock it and start safari, and browse away. Even though I have an MBP and an Air, I usually just kept my iPhone on the coffee table for quick browsing; the iPad is just as quick and convenient but of course with a much bigger screen.

Why because opening a lid and starting Safari is a chore on a MacBook?

Pick up MacBook, open lid, start Safari
Pick up iPad, slide to unlock, start Safari

Oh, I know you can, I was merely saying I have iTunes along with some other apps up and running while I'm browsing the web.. with the use of spaces and expose, having multiple windows open really isn't an inconvenience.. for me, it's easier just to use the one machine instead of having the iPad next to me to browse the web then go back to my laptop..

After a half day with the iPad, is there still anyone who would rather browse the web on a laptop?

You are not supposed to "hold it". Just like you generally wouldn't "hold" a book. Look at the guided tour videos to get an idea of how to use it properly.

Actually, it's "pick up MacBook, sit down, open lid". I know you can stand with an open MacBook but it's not nearly as comfortable. In last ten minutes, I went outside to smoke a cigarette, went to the bathroom, and now I'm sitting in bed. I was browsing the web the whole time.

I haven't tried an iPad yet but I can't imagine how it would be better than a full fledged laptop. After all, a laptop has a bigger + physical keyboard, a pointing device, a higher res screen, and the ability to run flash.

It is cool. I like it; however, it is infinitely easier to do somethings on a MacBook Pro/iMac. I don't have buyer's remorse, and I'm a tech nerd/fanboy I'm sure, but I don't look at this as a replacement for my MacBook Pro or iPhone. It's just handy if I don't want to boot up the Laptop or don't want to squint at my iPhone. The interface is cool, movies look great, and it's fun to play with. That's good enough for me.:D

I sort of want one because I know I can't have one (in Canada haha).

It's almost impossible for me to justify the purchase though seeing as I have an iMac, MBP, and iPhone!

I have an iPad and one thing I have noticed is I haven't touched my MacBook pro all day.

I'm not as savy as all of you mac pros here, but I can give my unbiased opinion of it and you can take it for what it is.

This truly is perfect; between a laptop and an iPhone. When you try it, it's a completely different experience than ever using an iphone or using a macbook. You just pick it up, and you're literally holding it right in the palm of your hands. I love that I now have all 5 seasons of Lost HD right in the palm of my hands and I could watch it while I was eating cheerios in my loung chair on the porch.

Keynote, Pages, and Numbers, from what I've used them so far, are truly amazing too. I have an iphone app called "eTextbooks" that I'm waiting for them to make it more iPad compatible so I can buy my college books for it rather than blowing it up 2x.

Weather HD is truly amazing also. Labrynth 2 HD is just pure awesomeness. I've had Labrynth since the day the orriginal came out.

How does COD: Nazi Zombies Play? Are the graphics low res?

since when aren't books held when read in a chair or bed? Even when sitting on a flat surface, many books won't stay open unless cajoled into it by "hands-on". that's why I prefer to read on my "little" touch--no searching for the right kind of lighting, nor holding a much heavier-than-Touch-book. While I have to hold my touch, it is so light I can hold it for long periods of time. No way could I do that with an iPad. It will have to placed on something, were I to use it for reading books.

First of all, I dont have an iPad, and im not getting one. BUT

I have recently had a change of heart, Apple is on to something with this, and I still think it sucks as of now, but compare the ipod touch to the first iPod they came out with. If people could adapt to those watermelon sized cell phones tablet computers will find there place. Im a firm believer that one day computers will be touchscreen podiums you sit down in front of and look DOWN at. And I think the iPad is great beginning to this.

i think its safe to say that my recreational web browsing will now take place on the iPad instead of my MacBook pro. It is so nice to browse and the perfect size! Unfortunately my girlfriend feels the same way so that might cut into my chances to actually use it.

And all the quasi-trolls who just showed up.

I'm happy with the web-browsing experience, especially now that I have an adblocker/proxy server going. Still bordering on hatred for the keyboard, though.

Sad, your real sad (and others like you).

As you can see I am a total Mac family but......not everyone that has a problem with the machine or Apple is a troll. Infact people that do have a healthy does of cynacism on anything are the ones that usually can cut thro the gloss and see things as they are. A used car dealer must really rub there hands when they see you coming..

I'm finding my desire to use my iPad as my primary browser is definitely increasing as I use it. I expected it to be workable (obviously, or else I wouldn't have bought it) but I didn't expect it to feel so preferrable to my desktop. I never really gave much thought to how much the form factor of the browser influences the experience you get with the same content.

Why is that sad? That I spent ten minutes walking around the house while web browsing? It would be less sad if I were sitting down the whole time?

It's sad that you went to the bathroom with it.
