I have the 4S, my upgrade has been ready since February 2012. I will upgrade to the 5, but still continue to use my heavily modded 4S for a while

I'm also considering upgrading now. How easy will it be to switch between the 4s and 5? I couldn't practically use the 5 without a lot of my jbs

One thing to keep in mind is that it's always better to get the new phone early on if you prefer to jailbreak your device the moment a public jailbreak is released. The reason behind this is, when you get the phone and it's on iOS 6.0, well moving forward you can always be sure that you're on the correct firmware for the jailbreak to work. Nothing's worse than buying a phone that came preloaded with 6.1 when the jailbreak only works on 6.0. So if you get in on the ground floor with 6.0, the jailbreak developers will keep everyone up to date on what firmware they're trying to jailbreak. That's jus my two cents and that's how I approach the iPhone cycle.

My original 4S had a rare battery defect so I got a replacement. I was given an iPhone in early March that came preloaded with iOS 5.1. At that point in time the only jailbreak was for 5.0.1. So I had to wait about 3 months for the 5.1.1 jailbreak. No big deal. But it's avoidable when you have access to earlier firmwares and can control which one you are on depending on the advice from jailbreak developers.

I had a jailbroken 4, upgrading to 5. I don't have anything saved, never backed up any blobs, etc. Just had a couple apps I liked to run that I can redownload again. So how do I restore my old phone to factory settings without getting it bricked by Apple. Can I just do it without worry via iTunes?

Why would Apple brick your phone ? That make zero sense.

Sign out of iTunes, Hook it up to iTunes, restore it to 5.1.1, choose set up as new, do not restore it to any backup.

this has been my dilemma as well...get the 5 and give up my jailbreak.....I am hoping that it won't take forever to get it cause I really like themes, sbsettings, bite SMS, and NC settings,IntelliscreenX, callbar, folder enhancer and iblacklist.

Same here. I will bid what I hope will be a temporary goodbye to my beloved JB tweaks as I can't resist LTE and more screen.

It's going to suck not having SBSettings most of all. Oh, and folder icons and tethering and on and on.

Oh how I will miss SBSettings, ;( sniff sniff, however as much as I love it, I am looking forward to just how well the 5 will be speed and performance wise. Android phones have this standard I just don't see why Apple can't build this into iOS.

I seem to be the odd one out here, but I'm going to not upgrade until the JB is released (yes, I know that may not be soon). But besides loving SBS, Bite, Activator, and Tetherme, I love being out of contract and having my phone officially unlocked. Contributing to that might be that I might be moving in a year and I'd like to know what is the best service for where I'll be moving before I sign a contract with any specific carrier. In any case, yes I want the iphone 5, but I'll keep practicing asceticism for as long as I can (I just keep telling myself that people in Africa would be grateful to have my i4 and that makes me content:)

I can't make up my mind.

The biggest "selling" points in iOS 6, for me anyway, is:

1. The free, fast Panoramic Camera mode
2. Free, Turn-by-Turn Navigation
3. Upgraded Siri stuff (which may be available still on iOS5 5.1. for all we know).

However, with my jailbroken 4S, I'll be giving up all my free Jailbreak Tweaks:

1. SBsettings
2. KillBackground
3. 5 Column Dock
4. 5 Column Springboard
5. LiveClock
6. NetMeter Widget
7. BatteryInfo Lite

These are pretty damn important tweaks to me. They make my phone work and feel much more efficiently, IMO. But they are all FREE, so it's not like I'm throwing money away upgrading to iOS 6.

Still, WHO KNOWS when iOS 6 will be Jailbroken. SBSetttings alone is easily the biggest feature iOS 6 doesn't have and one that I use every single day for quick-access to settings.

Such a tough decision... I can't decide.

The 1 gig of Ram is tempting to me... I like to theme and notice my phone and iPad get laggy due to running out of free ram...

It's the same thing every time, resistance is futile. Of course I upgraded.

Once the novelty wears off though... apple.com splash screen gets old... I'll come crawling back on hands and knees to the hacks forum...

The forum will be filled with iOS 6 jailbreak thread goodness...

I will be near death--a bounty of food, with no mouth to eat.

Curse you iphone 5.

It seems like I cannot live with NCSettings and Five Icon Dock, Staying with my iPhone 4.

The only tweak I cannot live without is NoSpot. Everything else is icing.

That said, I'll be living without NoSpot starting Friday.
