I have yet to see a video where you thumb type like on a 3.2in Iphone... Maybe if you had GIGTANTIC hands... but i dont think the typing experience would be the same as a iphone... you adding 1.1in diagonally in all directions

So, adding more space for the keyboard is a bad thing?

Has anyone ever called you ignorant?

I do have macbook, it's just to cumbersome to take with me to school, open it up, let it boot up, etc etc...versus the iPad which is 3-4 pounds lighter than my macbook, instant on (from wake), and has 5x longer battery life. I'm not saying I'm gonna get rid of my Macbook. I'm just gonna use something that's more convenient for on the go...

also, stop judging people that like the iPad...you have no right to judge anyone...not every piece of technology that's right for you would be right for me...I'm not judging you am i? don't judge me, or the rest of the people who like certain things that you might not agree with.

Fine. Enjoy your iPad. :) I will keep enjoying my iPhone 3GS talking on the phone, sending SMS and MMS, shooting video and taking pictures and carry it in my pocket, while you carry your iPad in a bag looking desperately for Wi-Fi hotspots. :D

The people who are bashing this are absolute fools, ha ha.

It may not be good for you, but it is for many of us. I can watch movies on it, browse the web brilliantly (Flash is a horrible standard, I have it disabled on my MacBook Pro) and better than desktop Macs and use it as an ebook device among many other things, like a gaming device.

It's not full-blown. It's doesn't need to be. It's not supposed to be. It will only improve with firmware updates.

Can't wait to get mine.

And I respect that! I respect that you are happy with the iPhone...you don't seem to respect that I might be happy using the iPad and searching for wifi hotspots...

you just seem to judge more than a judge in a courtroom.

Heheh, sorry for the "judging"! But you have to admit, I have a littlebit point here.

I wouldn´t mind iPad either, but I wouldn´t pay over 99$ for it! Seriously!

Am I required to thumb type?

Try 2 hand typing, on a touch screen tablet, while lying on your back(This was YOUR assertion, remember?)

Then yes you CAN do that if you CAN thumb type, like on a 3.2in Iphone... but your talking a 9.7in touch screen... I just dont see a way to thumb type while laying on your back... or at all frankly

To everyone bashing the iPad: YOU ARE NOT THE TARGET MARKET FOR THE PRODUCT! It's as simple as that. If you prefer a netbook, then by all means buy one! No one is stopping you, and I see why a netbook would have benefits for some uses too. CHOICE is the key, and we have it!

And what's with the whole iPad vs iPhone crap? They're different devices aimed at different markets and different uses, even if they are based on the same OS.

Anyway, I have the 3GS and am still getting the iPad for reasons I stated earlier in the thread.

It will have monthly payment involved, if you want 3G. And I will assume according to your post that you will not get the 3G model. And I will assume then that you don´t have a Mac or a PC at home, ´cause you need the iPad to browse the web right?

Oh wait! You have to buy a computer with the iPad, ´cause it won´t work as a standalone device! ;) Hahaha!

And why would you buy this to be used at home, if you already have a computer there? Ah I forgot the lazy couch surfing! And throw that much money away only for that task, you must be rich!

Man you guys are killing me! :D

You are truly dense. Browsing is not the only function. Let me list a few that I will use:

1. VNC into my server for administration or using an app like this: http://harlekins.org/ServerAdminRemote/Server_Admin_Remote.html

2. Editing pages (and word documents).

3. Checking on other services, like Transmission

4. Looking up a word in my Japanese dictionary while reading

5. Checking on my QTSS

6. All my email will likely be handled on this device

7. My Calendar, via my iCal Server

8. VPN --> VNC into work for a quick task

9. Reading books and technical PDFs (OS X Server Docs, etc)

10. Look up a recipe in Epicurious and have it on a big screen while cooking.

11. Small device for keynote (ppt) presentations

This is just a few of what my uses will be. Sure I do this on my Air. But I think many of these tasks will be more pleasant on the iPad and it allows me to cut out two devices.

Actually it was your assertion. I never said "thumbs" until this page.

Is this your main argument? I haven't used the damn thing yet. Theoretically will I be able to type? I think so. If I can't I will sit my ass up. Or adjust so that I can. Here is the thing, if I am laying down, I am probably just browsing which does not usually require me to type. I have bookmarks, linked pages, etc etc.

Anyone, I don't know what it will be like to type on. However, I can tell you that it will be much easier to adjust a slab as opposed to an L shaped computer. Try to use your imagination.

Do you expect us to believe you are going to do editing of word documents on the ipad?? Without the external keyboard? I don't THINK so. I think you are dreaming up reasons to buy it. Just GO AHEAD AND BUY IT, but don't BS us.

Yes I´m definitely not the "target market", because the "target marget" is directed for rich and lazy people who think surfing the web with MacBook Pro is too hard and difficult!

And what's with the whole iPad vs iPhone crap? They're different devices aimed at different markets and different uses, even if they are based on the same OS.

The iPad is a larger iPhone! Only it doesn´t have the serious features, like the camera, videocamera, phone, SMS/MMS and it sucks even at portability compared to iPhone! And for that iPhone is just PERFECT!

Anyway, I have the 3GS and am still getting the iPad for reasons I stated earlier in the thread.

Fantastic! :D

You do realize that Pages can handle Word documents, right?

And where did I say I would not have the external keyboard?

Why don't you make some more assumptions? And out of all the things listed, you make an assumption about one and suggest I am dreaming up uses? Come on. I find it difficult to not insult your intelligence.

I believe in using the proper tool for the job (speaking as an ex mechanic). I don't use a hammer when I've got a screw to install, and I won't use a 9.7" screen with touch keyboard to edit word documents, unless I'm suddenly into self-abuse.

Actually, I've done fairly extensive editing/writing on the ipod touch. It can be done, just not a pleasant experience over extended periods of time. I'm not 100% certain how good an experience it would be to write/edit documents on the iPad, but the bigger screen plus bigger keyboard would theoretically provide a better editing/writing experience than the touch. Suppose my productivity at a full desktop is 100, and the touch gave me around 70, if the iPad gives me a productivity of around 80-90, that would be more than good enough for, say, working on a document on the train during my morning/evening commute.

If they are widescreen movies they will be letterboxed since the iPad is 4:3 format. Not a good use for the iPad IMHO.

So because you think a 9.7" screen is not adequate, I should have the same opinion?

Is there really something wrong with doing a quick modification to a document before sending it off to someone? I have a desktop to handle extended sessions.

What else do you want to tell me? I am all ears...

Let me phrase this another way: do you ANTICIPATE that the experience of typing on a touch screen TOO SMALL to accommodate touch typing (using all fingers) will nearly equal that of the experience of using a real keyboard? It's, without a doubt, going to SUCK and I'll tell you why, other than the fact it's smaller than even my netbook's keyboard which is too small to type fast/easily on. Apple has never mentioned user-adjustable keypress delay (to minimize extraneous key presses), or haptic feedback, so I can guarantee before even TRYING this thing, that typing documents is going to SUCK BIGTIME on it's diminutive flat, feedback-less, touchy (no adjustable delay) "keyboard". I had the storm and storm2 and both were light years ahead for typing, compared to the touch, and that's just with thumbs. For touch typists, the keyboard should be at least 90+% the size of a standard 'real' keyboard.
