YESSSSS made it work.

Terminal:
cd /Applications
find .-iname "Disk Utility (Old).app" -print0 | xargs -0 xattr -d com.apple.quarantine
Thanks Mate, this helped. I was not able to open the modified app, kept bouncing, thanks to this I was able.
Now let's see if the app works, mounting a bootable USB with Snow Leopard.
Cheers

I messed around with this version of Disk Utility and found that verify disk permissions and repair disk permissions were both greyed out for all the drives I tried.

Secondly, I used it to initialize a disk in HFS+ journaled and when using the drive, a few strange things happened.
1. Some applications set to write to the drive refused to do so until I changed the permissions on the drive to where everyone can read and write to it.
2. When I drag files to the trash from this drive, it would warn that the files would be deleted immediately rather than sit in the trash can until I emptied it.

Based on my short time using it, I would warn everyone to be very careful when using it. Since verify and repair disk permissions doesn't seem to be enabled, its usefulness is reduced to being able to easily make disk images and burn CD/DVDs (it can be done with the new Disk Utility too, but, in my opinion, in a less intuitive way). I would also suggest that if/when you need to initialize a drive, use the current version of Disk Utility to do it.

Hello everyone,

So as you all already know, Disk Utility changed quite a bit with El Capitan - this is old news. Similar to what Apple did with iWork (and some other applications), they stripped down Disk Utility and ended up removing key features.

Apparently, you can only - in SOME cases - make disk images; you can't copy disks to each other; and it also (apparently) lacks a feature for RAID. Some even say that current features are buggy.

Luckily, a guide was made on how to trick the previous version of Disk Utility into thinking that it isn't running on El Capitan; this way, you can enjoy the old DU - before Apple decided to... well... r*pe it. (Here's the site:
https://justus.berlin/2015/10/restore-old-disk-utility-in-os-x-el-capitan/).

You can follow this guide yourself, OR you can download the already-modified application here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/3gt7v84slw3d36z/Disk_Utility_(Old).app.zip

Note that I am not responsible for any and all issues that this modified application could have, nor am I responsible for any damage to your system/software as a result. Credit goes to the person who made the guide and my brother for providing me the Disk Utility.app - already modified.

If you do not trust this application I have for download, go and check the SHA256 hash of the already-modified version and make sure it matches with the one in the article. I have ZERO intentions of producing or distributing malware, and I personally think that anybody who DOES produce malware/viruses, with intentions of harming a person's computer or stealing their personal information, should be given the death penalty.

If you happen to encounter any issues with this version of DU, on El Cap, please report them on this thread. It should not have a reason to be unstable, but one can never know.

Anyway, enjoy the previous version of Disk Utility again! This is a great way to flip-off Apple for turning your utilities into ultra-consumer-ish garbage. On a different note, if you think that Disk Utility became screwed up, look what happened with Pages. The list of things they added to Pages is about a few lines long... and the list of features they removed from their existing version of Pages is probably about a Page long.

EDIT: Apparently, while the pre-prepared application DID end up working with the machine on which it was created, It's having issues on others' machines. If you download it, it will likely not open or just endlessly bounce on the dock. Not currently sure about a fix - but, for now, follow the guide from that website I linked you guys to.
[doublepost=1463232861][/doublepost]I downloaded the file but realised the permissions were wrong as was the ownership
I changed it to belonging to root and just for the heck of it I changed chmod to -R 777
Worked great
I had to get this done quickly as I was trying to fix my technologically handicapped in-law with her iMac
Thanks for the downloaded file, sure beats the heck out of getting into the hex code
Macs new permissions scheme, sucks. lack of a better more descriptive word
Back to my Solaris...much easier

No problem! My brother was able to fix it on his own machine, but it didn't work when transferred to mine. He may have done something similar to get it fixed on my machine. Keep the old DU on the side (you never know), but enjoy the good ol' one for now on. I really don't get why Apple insists upon screwing up their good existing applications, but at least we can avoid some of them. Anyway, hopefully others will have the same success under the method you used.
[doublepost=1463424438][/doublepost]Yeah, I am likely only going to use it if I really have to. I was actually concerned about the old DU coinciding with the new one and the OS's general nature of disk management. The new one isn't unbearable, so I'll just use it for basic tasks, such as initializing/formatting a disk.

Does not launch properly. It shows the icon on the Dock (animates for a couple of minutes), but no window ever appears.

Same issue with mine. My brother was able to fix it, but I later had trouble with it when I updated to Sierra. I'm just gonna accept that the old DU is dead. Well, at least RAID utility is back.

Sierra's version of DU at least allows for window re-sizing based on playing in the AppleStore.
