Ok wow. “Cancels updated headset for 2025”? If true that’s actually a pretty big deal.

"
  1. Apple is reviewing and adjusting its head-mounted display (HMD) product roadmap, so there may be no new Vision Pro model in 2025 (the previous expectation was that there would be a new model in 2H25/4Q25). Apple now expects Vision Pro shipments to decline YoY in 2025.

Even developers are not interested in AVP ecosystem.

I have interacted with a number of developers who are creating VP apps. Many of them are creating them with just a simulator since the VP is not sold in their region. Am very impressed with their enthusiasm and willingness to take the risk of creating a product with no real way to test it. Most of these are small operations, maybe one or a few people. I check the VP app store weekly and have installed 55 apps even though I only install those which are of interest. Add several new ones every week.

Mainly small companies for now, large ones are in a wait and see mode. But there are a lot of new apps that show up weekly. There is developer interest.

So, I snagged myself an AVP all the way here in Germany, and for the first week, it was pure magic. The eye-tracking, the crisp display, and that sleek interface—everything I'd ever dreamed of. But after seven days of using it non-stop, I gotta admit, the magic's faded.

What started off as crystal-clear soon turned into a pixelated mess. Screen-door effects, blurry text, you name it. Safari became a nightmare, especially on sites like MacRumors with their white text on red backgrounds. And don't even get me started on the lack of clarity in my peripheral vision—it's a total buzzkill.

I thought I could ditch my trusty 42" 5k2k LG monitor for this Vision Pro, but boy, was I wrong. The sharpness, the contrast, the speed—nowhere near what I'm used to. It's like trying to trade in a sports car for a scooter.

And let's talk about convenience. Getting this thing strapped onto my head and adjusting it every time I need to dive into my workflow? Ain't nobody got time for that. It's quicker to just grab my iPhone, fire up my Mac, or snatch my iPad. The hassle just ain't worth it. There is just a barrier I didn't know existed

Sure, the idea of immersive content is cool, but we're not quite there yet. Here's hoping VisionOS 2 blows us away, 'cause if not, this AVP's hitting the market since I can't return it here.

I’m wondering if you didn’t understand the point I was making. Those statements were made to illustrate how out of touch the guy who did the video was. He was making similar statements about the Vision Pro and what it provides.

Thanks for correcting me.

This is the truth, and we got attacked by warning people about it.

Imagine people that never tried a VR headset spending 5K on their first VR headset. Of course it was going to end bad

We're so fortunate to have your insight here.

Not that I don't believe what iToph says, but that doesn't match my experience. I routinely use my AVP to look at websites and work with text, and I haven't had those problems. If these issues were widespread, we'd have heard about them by now.

And your comment about people "spending 5K on their first VR headset" ending bad (sic) is ridiculous. Buyers have two weeks to try the device and return it if it's not to their liking. Imagine that.

What is your default window size and text size?

I don't know how to determine the default window size, but I generally make them occupy a field of view similar to my desktop monitor, a 27" Apple Studio Display. I'll check about font sizes, but I'm able to read small text easily, without any odd effects.

Can you elaborate a little? What changed to turn the device from crystal-clear into a pixelated mess? Was it your perception that changed or the device started behaving differently?

I don’t think anything changed. The longer you use the AVP the more you can focus on the content - not the magic in using it.

I uploaded a video on YT so you can see what I mean with „pixelated mess“. This screen door effect appears everywhere, once you notice it - you can’t make it unseen.

Look at the edges 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ it’s almost unbearable and certainly unacceptable for a premium apple 3500$ headset.

Cheers

So in your video are you talking about the white line at thr top and right side of the browser?
Just checking.

I set my Safari to dark mode then brought up the Moon Environment. I don’t see that jagged white line at all. No trace of it.

🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ll try to make a few more examples over the next days.

It might be related to the icon/font size. On medium or large I don’t notice the screen door effect that much.

*edit: but it’s definitely there. Who ever says that you can’t see any pixels on the homescreen icons has poor eyesight 😃

I looked at my settings, which was the first thing I did after getting my AVP. I’d just forgotten that the window size control was under Appearance, so thanks.

I use the medium window setting, and text is on the fifth position from the left, but since reading about your experience I’ve tried smaller windows and text. I don’t see any of the issues you’re describing. I routinely read scientific articles with small text on my AVP, and I prefer it to my 5k monitor.

You can chalk it up to poor eyesight, but it seems odd that other AVP users here aren’t reporting the same thing.

I don’t doubt what you’re saying, but have you tried another AVP to see if the problem persists? Are you using lens inserts, which could affect what you see?

I'm not seeing anything. Sounds as if you are very sensitive.

There are visual problems - some glare, light seal not perfect - but at least for me I totally forget about them when I'm in a good immersive experience.
