I have orange ("mango") bicycle parts that do not have this problem. Perhaps apple made the surface too rough and difficult to seal.
 
I don't understand why some people have a hard time believing this. This is one of the smallest of an endless stream of f**k ups that Apple has been doing these few years. Of course it happens. I'd be very surprised when something like this does not happen, especially at launch.
 
Assuming this image is real for the moment, the color change is very even throughout. The only difference is the lip of the camera bump and that's also evenly orange (maybe the bump area holds more dye/stain).

I'm surprised that accidental oxidation would change the color uniformly. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but it is interesting.
 
The phone would look decent if the glass and antenna bands were white/translucent instead of tinted orange.

I bet there is a market for intentionally changing the color with chemical treatment.
