This thread is likely headed to a quick and ugly conclusion...;)

I'm not really surprised...so many non-techie, regular consumers aren't that aware of what they're using. And yes, there are clearly many people who choose Apple just because 'it's Apple.' In reality, most people have no clue iOS 9 was revealed, what it looks like or that it's going to be released next month. And let's face it, Android and iOS probably look more alike now than they ever have (referring to flatter design, less skeumorphic). Looks like outside of the search bar on top, they'd arranged the icons in a typical iOS-like grid and probably had common apps available on both platforms. The only functionality mentioned was a music control widget.

FWIW, I bet you could do the same thing with a Samsung Galaxy running iOS (or some type of emulator) and would have much the same reaction from any number of casual smartphone users--'hey, it's the new TouchWiz!. Hell, I chuckled when the self-professed 'Samsung fanboy' didn't recognize it. :D

I find it scary when people on the street aren't able to answer who their nation's chancellor/prime minister/president is... but people who don't instantly recognize a faux OS by merely looking at it? Uhm... yeah, wohooo, I guess...

I must be severely lacking in the humour department. But then again, I'm German...

Agreed. A minor chuckle is all this story is worth. We often forget that most people aren't like us who follow tech closely.

So wait..... they put it on an iPhone, and then tell them it's the upcoming unreleased IOS 9, and they are surprised they fooled people.

Seriously. It's like replacing the innards of a Ferrari with those of a VW Golf, and then laughing when people can't tell the difference.

"Here you go. Here is something you are completely unfamiliar with, but inside something you are familiar with. HAHA we fooled you!"

So... random people outside an Apple Store equals Apple fans? Also, no real Apple fans would be fooled by this.

Of course many would. You don't have to be a tech enthusiast (re: nerd ;)) to be a fan of a company's products. A great many of my friends love Apple gear...but they have no idea what's coming down the pipeline beyond what they're using now. For all they know, the next version of IOS will all be purple.

The change from iOS 6 to iOS 7 was far more dramatic a change. Why wouldn't they believe Apple redesigned iOS again?

Yeah, really. Stop looking at it from your own perspective. And go back a take a look at the video. Whatever gimmick they had installed, the top status bar still maintained the iOS style (no Android notifications or icons) and other than the search bar, they'd arranged everything in a grid of icons, just like iOS. Android has a dock at the bottom just like iOS as well. So the biggest change was the icons. Why would that be so hard to believe, especially by avg. joe consumer?

What they should do next is put an iOS theme on the upcoming GS6 Edge+ and in the regular GS6 and show it as the new iPhone 6S+ and 6S. And let's see how much they "LOVE" the new more premium design over the old one. Then show their reaction after being told it's not an iPhone. Because you know, if it's not an iPhone, it's not an iPhone.

That too, is pretty much redundant and highly predictable, don't you think? The Samsung S6/Edge design is heavily inspired by the iPhone 6 and pretty much follows similar design patterns that iPhone users already are accustomed to. The Samsung S6 Edge in particular sports the best aesthetics that currently exist on a phone, surpassing the iPhone 6's design, in my opinion. The regular S6 is on par, not worse, not better looking, whereas the S6 Edge tops them all at this time. I think quite a lot of gadget (and iPhone) geeks feel that way, if these forums are anything to go by.

What a horrible comparison. What they did was nothing like you described.

Ford focus and VW golf better for you?

It's not like they hacked it and just threw Lollipop on there. They even changed it to look as similar to IOS as possible.

It's a childs ploy. My kids try to pull that on me.

Dad, can you spell atmosphere?

Yes.

Then spell it.

Atmo....

Wrong it's I-T.

I actually didn't take that as a bad thing for Apple fans. I think it says more about how nice Samsung got the hardware. Lets face it, if you took a note 4 around no one would believe it was the next iPhone plus.

The thing is that you can really put any spin you like on this, as it doesn't have a trace of credibility. It's catering towards the low end "humour", especially when you know that these things usually are cut to make it fit an agenda. Oh well, again - let them have their "fun" :)

(and for the pathetic morons: I'd say the same if it would be reversed, so don't waste your time with idiotic comments, thank you (no, actually, thank me :) ) ).

I'm not putting a spin on it, Samsung caught up with Apple in hardware and it makes sense that non techie consumers might think it was an unreleased iPhone.

That could well be too - although that could counteract those who say that "Apple fans" have no idea of hardware whatsoever while your statement implies that Apple makes high end devices.
