Definitely not happy about the loss of column browser. But it's good to hear that Doug's scripts will be updated.

Looks like the ‘Consolidate selected files’ iTunes feature is missing in the new Music app.

Hi, I added the beta Mac OS 10.15 but none of my ripped music, playlists or ratings came over, it just shows purchases from iTunes Store, I have a back up of my itunes library, is anyone able to advise how I can bring my library and history into the new app please as I think that the new Apple Music is anow a different format, so I guess I need a way to change this and import into the new app but retaining details like date added, play count, ratings etc?

I'd probably wait for another beta. The iTunes split is a bit of a mess at the moment. The conversion of your iTunes (XML) library should have happened automatically. The Books app has a "Move Audiobooks from iTunes" option which I don't recommend doing unless you want all your audiobooks moved into the depths of your ~/Library hierarchy and the option to edit metadata removed. However, mine seems to have done that by itself after a few days. I'm pretty sure I never clicked on it!

But back to Music ... there doesn't seem to be any option to convert a library. You could run a mass import and point it to the directory containing all your music, but that won't bring over any playlists or smart folders etc.

When you say you "added the beta MacOS 10.15" ... how did you "add" it? If you upgraded, the conversion should have happened. If not, no idea! You could re-install iTunes for the time being I suppose.

Thanks, just as I suspected, though I thought if it was a Marzipan/Catalyst version of the iOS one it might not be *that* bad.

Good to hear that it (partially) works for you. I think I'm running into the problem described by the release notes:

"Connecting to another computer using Home Sharing might not show the remote library as expected."
Hmm... this is listed as fixed in beta 2's release notes, but it's still not working for me. I choose my remote server and it thinks for about a second then switches back to my local library.

The server is running the Windows version of iTunes, and everything works correctly on my 10.13 machine and my iOS 12 iPhone.

Can anyone check for me the memory footprint of Catalina's new Music.app? (using Activity Monitor, iStat Menus, or whatever other tool at your disposal) -- bonus points if you have a large music library

iTunes on Mojave is so bloated -- I'm hitting 1.5 GB of memory usage after just a few days, and it feels really slow. But then again, it always has...

I'm hoping that by splitting out iTunes into its constituent functions, each app takes up less memory.

The Music.app is using 155mb on my late 2016 MacBook Pro; my library is like 20,000 songs but the Music hasn't been able to load it for the entire week

155 MB sounds amazing -- until you said it's not loading your 20K songs library, so that's probably not a realistic amount right

When it was loading my library 2 weeks ago i dont know what the usage was but the application as a whole was running so much faster, I'd argue it ran better than the Music app on iOS.

Oh wow! That is really promising news :)

I've been an iTunes power user for over a decade and have a 26K songs library myself, with about 400 playlists. Performance really matters, and that's great to hear. I know we'll be losing certain functionality in the new Music.app like column view, etc., but if it comes with a big boost in performance, I'll be OK with that trade-off.

What is column view? I’m a iTunes user as well with a big library but I don’t use iTunes in English. Is column view the song view where you can see all the info like artist name, play count, last played, album name, album artist, bitrate etc?

If that is gone then I’m not upgrading... I really don’t want a dumbed down version of iTunes!

It's more specifically called the 'Column Browser', where there's a frame above the main songs frame, that includes columns for Genres, Artists, Albums, etc (invoked by typing Cmd+B)

Hey my library finally loaded with the new PB so i have 20k songs in my library, Music is currently using around 500mb of memory when viewing recently added. If i view just "Songs" it uses around 350mb

Thanks for getting back geminicon. Glad to hear memory footprint has improved like that. Would you be able to pull up memory footprint of Podcasts and TV app as well please?

Podcasts uses around 335mb

I can't get the TV app to open.
