No

Only the ipad & iphone 4s can do wireless mirroring

And theres no way to connect an external drive even jailbroken

I think the most recommended method of support an ATV is to use a system that's running iTunes and have it serve the files needed.

what is the forecast for the atv3? when it will be come out?

Nobody knows...for sure... Only thing is AT. 2 came about year ago.. So it is possible at3 might come out soon.. But nobody knows for sure.... I am waiting.... But it's all different for everyone.. I can wait for now is what I am saying.. Question is... Do you want to...

Nothing official yet. Just a mention of it in the iOS 5 specs.

If I'd have to guess, I'd say before Christmas if it'll be out soon. I can hardly see them releasing a popular product like that shortly after the holiday season. If not by then, possibly the spring. Like I said, nothing's official and no one knows.

I never said it was not smart to buy one now. It is a great device and if you have a lot of iTunes content it is even better.

I have 2 ATV's and just bought a Roku, the ATV has a much better UI and is my goto device, I bought a Roku just for some additional content. I was hoping for an App store on the ATV but I am convinced it will not happen until the next Gen ATV.

Fro me the day apple tv supports air video client n sling box client I am all in

The ATV2 is so cheap that even if there's a new one coming out right before christmas - it's still worth it. If you really want to have the new one and don't have more than one TV at home, you'll probably be able to sell the old one for like 75 bucks.

There is no point in waiting when it comes to these sort of things. If you feel like it's worth waiting several months not to having "wasted" 100 dollars, you're poor and shouldn't buy toys at all.

It's not so urgent for me to buy it right now because I already have a streamer called Xtreamer. But I saw that the apple TV is better and also I want the airplay function and also I have the iPod touch 4 and soon the iphone 4s so I decided to buy one.
Selling the old atv2 it's not possible for me because I am from Israel and the iTunes store is not support Israel so it will be hard to sell it for someone. For the streaming I will use the XBMC

So if you say that this chrismas it will come out I think it's better for me to wait some months until it wil come out no?

It's always possible, but doubtful, since the aTV2 was introduced in a lot of countries just last week. A quick introduction of an aTV3 probably wouldn't go over well with people who just bought an aTV2.

The relative success of the aTV2 seems to have been largely due to the good price, which is partly allowed by using an older processor. I suspect they will try and keep the price, meaning that the bump to A5 will probably come when that processor is no longer new.

The only thing i would add is that it is highly doubtful there will be a new one this year.

There is no way of knowing whether it comes out this christmas, or maybe even next christmas, or if they release an ATV3 at all.

Although it's quite funny to see someone who upgrades a really expensive phone after only having had it for about a year to be all greedy about the ATV2 ;)

I say buy it! You want it, you seem to have the money, you don't know how long you have to wait for an eventual ATV3... Just do yourself a favor and get it :)

Don't forget what happened in Norway with the iPad - there is nothing that says they couldn't do the same thing with the ATV...

It is true that you can't attach a drive directly to your AppleTV 2, but you can play media off a network drive. Instead of connecting a drive to the AppleTV, just connect it to your computer.

If the media is iTunes compatible then you can load it in iTunes on your computer and everything will stream to the AppleTV. If not, then you can jailbreak and load XBMC or Plex, which play a wide variety of formats. If you don't want to have to keep iTunes or the Plex server running all the time, then use XBMC which requires no server. If you have an NAS then XBMC can play anything on the NAS without having any regular computer running on your network.

ATV 3 not until fall 2012

Come on man -- pure speculation. It could come this week. It could come next year or in two years. Nobody that posts on here knows.

I was waiting to buy another AppleTV for our bedroom to see if there would be any AppleTV love when the new iPhone came out. Since there wasn't, I'm going for an $85 refurbished box. If AppleTV 3 comes out before Christmas, I'll probably buy it and move one of the 2's to the gaming TV in the basement. No big deal.

AppleTV is definitely the only Apple product I feel that way about (no big deal to buy another one) -- because it's only $100. Probably not going for the iPhone 4S because I won't be up for a new phone on my Verizon contract until 5 is out.

That's only a rumor that only the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S support Airplay Mirroring.

Not a fact yet until someone tries and fails.

100 % correct.
