That looks a lot like the first cell phone I had, but with Bell South where the MOTO logo is.

I can’t recall whether the provider offered where I was at the time was Nextel or Southwestern Bell.

Almost seem like a dream now it was so long ago, not just like another lifetime but not even the same universe the way the tech has changed.

If you’ve ever watched Fringe, there’s a shot in which the main character, in 1985, is showing U.S. Defense Department officials a prototype of a cellular phone they spotted in the parallel universe through which they could view that universe with a special see-through display designed to “thin the membrane between universes”. The D.O.D. general asked, “Does it work?” The main character replied, “Not here… not yet… but…” then goes on to describe how they could pilfer from small tech advances the other universe had made.

That prototype? A Motorola Razr. :)

So yes, I think I get how you mean. It was a whole other time.

Checked mine: only the Compaq Evo N400c (2001) and Toshiba Portégé 2000 (2002) have IrDA.

I got two laptops that have it too, a Compaq Armada 1700 and a HP Omnibook XE3-GC.. The Compaq is long dead alas, but the HP still works fine, I just gotta replace the hard drive connector on it.

I'm tempted to try and get both fully working and try to connect each other through IrDA just for the fun of it..
