well that will happen on an imac too. using more of the hardware then not when connecting 2nd monitor so it should run alittle warmer

Attaching an external LCD is not "using more". We're talking 2D static stuff here. There is absolutely no reason for these powerful GPUs to raise their clocks in order to drive a simple static picture on an external LCD. But that's just my opinion.
 
nothing open fresh reboot external monitor off 12 watts turning on external monitor 40 watts with all the resolutions
