I have been using my 2021 12.9” iPad Pro exclusively docked on my Magic Keyboard since I got it, and once I started taking it off and using it like a tablet it became a lot more fun. Not only that, but I guess since the speakers are closer to me now it seems lot louder than before which is a plus. I like how the iPP vibrates from the sounds coming from the speakers. It just feels cool. I think I am sending my Magic Keyboard back and getting a Smart Folio instead. I much prefer the tablet aspect of the iPP over keeping it docked all the time. Who else prefers it?

iPad Pro holding like that while playing game on the bed would be a pain imo. Also landscape double hand typing would demand very big hands. I don’t have that big hands unfortunately, so 11” there it goes.
Magic keyboard is amazing when typing under low light conditions. It does not provide any water resistance so I need to be very careful.
I tried to use iPad without keyboard but quickly find it is too boring, and a keyboard massively changes the experience while browsing forums, using messenger applications and so on where typing is required.

Can the smartfolio detach magnetically and easily like the MK? That’s one of the big things for the MK. You can just take it off and use it naked very easily. Feels great in the hands, almost inspiring actually. (The iPad, not me. I can do that whether I have the MK or not)

Yes typing on the ipad is a real issue. Solved a little with scribble (filenames and quick things) a little with the thumb keyboard thingie (no use for long pieces though) and solved completely with an external keyboard (but which then slightly defeats the ipad experience).

Typing is the biggest drawback of the iPad.

I use my iPad 99% as a tablet. Who would buy a tablet and not use it as a tablet? Why even buy a tablet then?
For sure, some trying to make it a laptop, I would never attach some big keyboard to it. It’s a sidepiece and used as such for me and I use it a lot and never needed a keyboard

Works fine as a laptop or as a tablet or as a mac extension. Its the beauty of the iPad, it can mould to your needs. No need to worry about what other people can do with it too much though.

agree, 100% for the smaller ipads like the ipad air or the 11" ipad pro...but with the 12.9" is at its limit using just as a tablet..that tablet is meant to be like a bridge for those who wants ipadOS but in some kind of laptop mode but a tablet also

You‘ve seriously have never used a Mac? macOS is pretty much the same amongst all the new macs.

If you’re talking hardware differences. A MacBook Air has an inferior screen, inferior front camera, no back camera, and inferior speakers. Also, it’s missing Touch support, pencil support, LIDAR, and portrait mode.

From a hardware perspective it’s like comparing a Toyota Corolla to a 7 Series BMW.

Agreed. That’s why the iPad outsells the Mac. It appeals to people who use it full time and Mac owners who only use it as a tablet.

Ha! If that guy has no idea why anyone would not use a tablet as a tablet he’s got his head in the sand. Because there are millions of us.

Comes to every iPad thread and says the exact same thing

I have it in both orientations. I have it on the MK when typing or watching videos (due to its function as a stand). But for playing games (particularly Call of Duty Mobile) or when using the pencil I have it in tablet mode.

I have both sizes and I would have to disagree. The 12.9” stays on my MK while the 11” moves around with me either docked on it's own MK or in a Smart Folio when I'm using it as a tablet.

So if you are using a real keyboard instead of the virtual keyboard, you are not using the iPad as a tablet?

Oops, wrong thread. I don’t know how that happened?

We are discussing the 12.9” pro here not the small air,(from your posts you have it?) which is too small for a MGK anyway. And imagine having to use the power button instead of FID, would be a royal PIA with the MGK.

Great observations. I have been dragging my feet on getting the magic keyboard. I mean, it's expensive, but does it keep me too distant from the iPad? I can't use my fingers as easily. I'm glad I am dragging my feet now... Thanks...
