Installed Sonoma on MBA M2 to see what's the fuss about.
Installed a dynamic Dubai wallpaper (available from a third party as well).
Put on a pair of widgets on desktop.
That's probably it.
My desktop stays in Monterey.

So you didn't even actually try it out beyond changing a new wallpaper and you somehow expect any rational person to view this as some sort of authoritative assessment of the OS?

Of course i tried and actually worked on some projects in sonoma and there is no substantial difference at all. Only few superficial things, in addition to breaking some workflows but bringing nothing new of real use.

Not only useless, but annoying. That auto caps for fill ins can't even be changed.

As with the previous OS, the .0 version is not perfect but soon there will be updates that solve the bugs.
i never understand why people say that. in my experience (yes, am only speaking for myself), OS development is never a straight line forward; bugs are squashed, new ones appear.

so it's constantly a work in progress. but for me, 14's official release worked really well, and the 14.1 beta is also working... really well. and there will always be bugs...

I read the file. There are definitely some changes, big and small, but even Apple highlights three key new features as dynamic screensavers/wallpapers, widgets (which description takes a whole page) and videoconferencing enhancement. As after COVID I use much less video conferencing, as in the original statement, this leaves screensavers and widgets as most important updates. There is even not a single description of so called under-the-hood improvements much touted here.

Did you just stop reading halfway through the second page of features? In the PDF you are quoting, Apple highlights a dozen areas as "Key Features and Enhancements". Not just the three that you are choosing to mention.

And then another three dozen under "Even More".

probably you know how these brochures are written. Key features are highlighted first. Well, it were wallpapers and widgets on the first page and the 90% of the first page is devoted to description of each individual widget.. Don't blame me, Apple editors and marketing wrote that page. Guess that there is not much to highlight truly. But I am fine with that. OS upgrades don't have to be earth-shuttering releases, they can be small boring incremental updates, which is what I originally mentioned. I am cool with that, I am just not going to install it on two my desktops (MBA m2, a test machine, will stay with Sonoma, I have nothing personal against this upgrade.

What a silly argument. The document literally lists a dozen "Key Features and Enhancements". Pretending nine of them don't exist is obtuse.

It's not an opinion. There are literally twelve listed in the document that you are referencing.

As far as my personal favorite new features, I'm finding value in the Safari updates (particularly web apps and profiles), interactive desktop widgets, Notes improvements, predictive text, faster video encoding, grocery list sorting, and Spotlight improvements.
