Yeah it’s pretty bad with its quirks. Not enough to say it’s not workable. Just have to accept the crashes, freezing and occasional external SSD sudden ejects. The system runs stable as long as you reboot daily or shut down daily. Keep it running 24/7 or having sleep function without a daily or so reboot and things starts to crash. Which is sad really. Love my new iMac M3 that i maxed out. Too bad Sonoma is so crappy.
Reboot daily? No freakin' way. Sonoma truly is the worst OS in human history if that is needed to keep it running. I go many, many weeks without rebooting. I will **NEVER** upgrade to Sonoma given its horrible reputation. Pure, unmitigated filth. That's Tim Cook's Apple.

I miss the days of Snow Leopard.

After all the shenanigans of Sonoma. I did the Erase All Contents and setting. Set up as new again and NO migration from TM. The two issue that happened after that was unexpected external USB eject and Pages freezing forcing me to force quit it. This is when I enabled Default Sleep, vs Never Sleep. So now i put it back to Never Sleep. Let’s see how long it stays stable this time. I’ll come back here and let you know if something happens again. I won’t reboot it daily.

Trust me, your rose color lenses are kicking in...Sonoma isn't anywhere near as bad as any Windows build. Recent or not.

The human mind has a way of forgetting past pain and over stating current pain...
That's what I keep reading, that no other OS in all of humanity is as bad as Sonoma.

I'm a Mac user since the Mac Plus days. This is the first time I have never upgraded to a new OS, ever. I'm still running Ventura. I don't want to experience the worst OS in human history. Hard to believe Apple produced an OS worse than Windows Me!

I updated to 14.5 and had to contend with the caps lock indicator that has no turn off option. I'm not updating my MBP M2 any further. Who knows what surprises Apple might introduce to my computer next.

why are you still on about this? you got a workaround (that works). anyway, i can't imagine stressing about an entire OS over one issue that you've already resolved... 🤔

Sorry if I'm upsetting you Fisherking. Shucks, I'm just making a comment. That should be okay I think. I'm happy and thankful indeed that I got the fix, but it cost me some time and effort to get there. Suffice it to say, I'm a bit leary of what the future holds with Apple updates. That was my main point this time around. :)

It is fine for me and the worst OS ever created is windows 11 followed by 10. Actually, all of them bar 95, 98, XP and 7.

What is the worst operating system in human history?

I have used some awful operating systems on big and small machines. It isn't macOS Sonoma.

The operating system of the Apple II series was pretty bad. The original UNIX on the DEC PDP-7 was pretty bad. The operating system for the Altair 8800 was pretty bad.

To me, Sonoma definitely isn't perfect but that's been the case of any operating system for Mac since Leopard. It's certainly better than Windows 10 or Windows 11.

I feel like Ventura is my line in the sand. Similarly I'm steadfastly pegged on iOS 16. No explicit reason other than that I feel Apple software is getting worse by the minute and I don't think my devices are ever going to get any better than they already are. Thus I feel no need to be trolled into adding more bloat, bugs and 'security' in exchange for 'features'.

Written by someone who has never even tried it! As we all know people post about their problems. Using forum posts as a guide is like visiting a new city and going to the hospital to see how healthy the population is.

Try googling “<name of OS> is the worst operating system“.

I started on PDP-11/40 with RSX-11D plus (changing a disk) UNIX-5.
It seems I missed a lot ...

So concluding: my mother (RIP) was right: "Men suffer most of the pain they fear".
Applied on this forum:
OS XYZ is very bad, so they say. Never gonna update, in spite of current bug repairs and security increased .....

Very well said. Apple software these days just gets worse and worse and worse. I am done upgrading any macOS software which means I cannot buy any more Apple hardware. I'll ride out Ventura as long as possible and then see what my options are. I am done funding Apple's feckless software, by far the worst in the industry.

sorry also if i'm upsetting you; guess we're both allowed to make comments.

updates bring, as they always do, bug fixes, enhancements... sometimes new features. but you are, of course, free to stop updating any time you want 👍

I used Windows Me back in the day and all indications are Sonoma is much worse than that. I don't need that kind of trouble.

Haters be hating, yet still feeding at the Apple trough.

Serious question: Why to you complain about everything Apple at every turn, yet continue to buy and use their products?

I am genuinely curious. Who peed in your cornflakes? Was it Steve or Tim?

How it goes...

Trip over a minor issue, throw toys out of the pram because they are used to a drama. Apple sucks! Throw your stuff away! It's terrible! I will never upgrade again, preferring to use an ancient bug ridden iOS version from forever ago.

Hit Amazon, buy a Dell laptop running Windows 11 and a Samsung Android phone....

MY GOD THAT APPLE STUFF WAS SO RELIABLE. WHAT WAS I THINKING

Crawls to Apple store, fills up credit card, creates new Macrumors account. Slithers back in quietly...

----

Footnote: If you think Apple are the worst in the industry, you have little to no objectivity or critical thinking ability.

Only very few of us can judge all the hardware and software they DO NOT use. The grass is always greener ....
I agree with you. Then again, I had the innocent idea that this forum was meant to spread information, to learn from.
I'm certain that occasional readers that pass by here will not hate the subjects but the wailers (not Bob Marley's).
Please, let's give each other again useful info. And make your own choices!

No issues here on an M1 MBP with 14.5. I dont much care for the settings layout, equally I dont live in settings or have a need to change much. Like most computers the issues are generally related to the user. They either dont realise or simply find it easier to put the blame elsewhere than learn how to resolve.

Sonoma isn't perfect, but for the majority I suspect it's a reliable OS...
