I asked about tracking, my friend just wrote back to me. I know that the smartphone is following me, but I try to limit it. I do not use social media except online forums. Only selected applications have access to the location or the camera. I don't use clouds to store photos, I don't publish my image on the web.

I'm just trying to keep my online exhibitionism to an absolute minimum :)

If I'm looking for something on the web or on Youtube, I don't necessarily want to log in, I don't want some voice assistant to hear what I'm talking about.

I don't want to be someone's advertising board and pay to show me ads :)

You're right, using a smartphone requires sacrificing privacy for convenience.

There are still many shades of gray between black and white.

But a flip phone is also an option ;)

@Aneres11
Are you sure you can return the phone without headphones? In my country, the terms and conditions of the promotion require that the handsets and the telephone be returned within 14 days.

I'm going to order, put the headphones aside, test the phone (guarding it like eggs) and if I don't like it - send it back.

If I leave the phone for myself, I'll sell the headphones... and my iPhone :D

Not sure what you mean re headphones? In UK the headphones are given via redemption so you have to have had the phone for over two weeks meaning you can't claim for the headphones and then return the device as you'd be outside of the 14 day return period.

I think the Sony store direct delivers the headphones with the phone (so no need to redeem them separately after) but if you returned the device you would need to send the headphones back too.

If you choose to keep the phone but sell the headphones then that is entirely up to you. You don't need to keep them if they're not what you want.

I can buy a phone with the bonus of additional WF-SP800N or WH-XB900 headphones or the SRSCB33 speaker. The cost of the bonus is approximately £ 1/4

If I return the phone within 14 days, I must also refund the bonus.

So I can only sell my headphones if I keep my phone.

Maybe I misunderstood your statement. I thought you wanted to return the phone with the bonus.

Ahh ok. No for me, I would be keeping the phone but selling the headphones. I won't use them as I already have headphones.

I don't intend to return the phone. :)

I will leave myself the option of return :)

If I do not use it, I will buy a memory card and a phone case for the headphones sold ;)

I still have a few doubts:
1) privacy - on iPhone I avoid Google anyway, I use DuckDuck, on Sony I would probably use Firefox with DuckDuck but still I would have to log into a Google account;

I have all of the google services disabled except Google Play Services which you can't disable nor stop at all. Besides disabled Google apps such as Chrome, Calendar, Drive, Duo, etc I have the following system applications disabled

Facebook/Facebook App Installer/Facebook App Manager/Facebook Services

Google/Call Log BackupRestore/Google Backup Transport/Google One Time Init/Google Partner Setup/Google Services Framework/Google Text-to-Speech Engine/Google lyrics extentsion/OK Google enrollment
*keep in mind when you disable Google Services Framework you wont be able to sign into Google Play Store if you want updates, just re-enable it, login, update and disable it.

YouTube/YouTube extension/YouTube karaoke extension

You can also disable Google Play Store if you will and get app and updates throug apkmirror.com

Don't use your real Google account, make some burner account to setup the phone, and then remove the account in Accounts section in Settings. Use Outlook app, Sony Email app or Blackberry Hub app to import all of your contacts, calendar, tasks, notes and emails from any web account (including gmail).

@vladi
Thank you very much.

I will test the phone and convert to Android for 14 days, if I am not happy, I will return it.

Edit:

I am not a phone expert, especially with Android, but I do not understand SONY's policy - they have everything and the phones do it as a punishment ...

I honestly had no idea Sony was making phones. I hate Android with a passion but I enjoyed my Xperia x10 and Xperia play.

Now that the 10bit video recording is a whole new stuff for iPhone 12 here is good video clip of how Xperia 5 II does it in 120fps 10bit HDR

More like it’s amazing that Sony Mobile still exists at all. Their market share is almost zero, and they have been in the red many times. :D
Yeah that was the main reason I posted lol. Is HTC still around?

before I saw the light of apple, htc androids were my faves.

I've been playing with Sony Xperia for an hour and I still don't feel like it .... A completely unintuitive menu for me. I can't find the alarm clock, dark mode set manually (?) Can't connect to the hidden wifi network (?) Fatal plastic tray for sim card ... I was afraid that I would break it.
Installed blob (facebook, netflix, linkedin) ...
I don't like this phone at all and I don't think I will be convinced of it. I don't even want to convince myself of it ... No "wow" effect...

Edit: After connecting to the wifi network (I had to enable SSID Broadcast) it downloaded the update and found the clock.

Maybe I'm having a bad day but I can't see it

Edit2:
iOS is annoying but Android is even worse. To the left of the home screen: widget - garbage can, default weather application with ads, digging in the menu to make the phone connect to a hidden network.
I confirm what the reviewers say - the senseless assistant button, I hit it every time I pick up the phone.
I don't even feel like testing any further.
First impression - definitely not, a return phone.

Lol. I see you gave it a good go before you returned it then.
The assistant button really isn't senseless. Dont get me wrong, I don't like it but it isn't easy to hit. It isn't even flush with the side which I think reduces the accidental presses.

I don't know why you can't find the alarm clock. There is an app called clock... or you could just add a clock widget to the home screen (one is on by default) and just tap that which takes you straight to alarm.

Dark mode can be toggled off with a touch by swiping down to notification tray and just turning it off...

Facebook, linked in and Netflix are not bloatware really. Just delete them if you don't use them.

Also there are no ads in my weather app, so not sure why you're seeing them.

It sounds like you just took a dislike to it instantly and your mind won't be changed so returning it would probably be best.

I felt bad yesterday, maybe that's why I was critical like a spoiled child :)

I guess I shouldn't be doing any shopping at this point (financial situation), which could also affect my attitude.

There are a few things I don't like about the phone itself:
- assistant button (8/10 hits when picking up the phone)
- card tray - looks really cheesy ....
- I'd rather not have these applications (Netflix, Facebook), but Apple also makes me happy with its ones that I don't use (Health).

The other comments are more for Android than the phone.
- dark mode - I would prefer it to be automatic, but the ability to turn it off can be useful sometimes,
- clock - appeared after starting wifi - the phone finished the configuration then - I withdraw the complaint,
- wifi - in iOS it is enough (if I remember correctly) to enter the name of the hidden network and the phone will connect, here I had to select the appropriate option in advanced, for this I use mac address filtering, I also had to set it permanently, I don't understand this option,
- AccuWeather - the system suggested it as a default, I did not run the widget but the application has ads,
- the speakers - do they sound well - I wouldn't say,
- I copied the music to the phone's memory without any problems.

Yesterday I had no pleasure in playing with this phone, rather annoyance ....

Sending back Xperia means going back to the iPhone 8, because I'm not going to spend money on Tim Cook's ideas :)

Ok, today I can write more - I got used to Android a bit.
The music from the phone's speakers, however, is clearly better than the iPhone, but in the iPhone I have mp3 and in the Xperia .wav Even my wife hears the difference.

Android Car works fine as with the iPhone.

I had a problem with widgets, two widgets on the screen and they stopped responding to control attempts with them. However, the phone has downloaded some update and so far the problem has disappeared.

Polar Flow app works, one of the banking apps works, VLC won't connect to DLNa server - I have to check it yet.

Today I have a much better attitude towards this phone, but no one wants to buy my iPad Air, so I didn't get some money back for Xperia ;)

I am still not convinced of the Xperia / Android duo.

Duo Messenger is some kind of early beta. Writing text messages is a drama. There are ads on viber.
I have not found a meaningful use for screen sharing.

I haven't tested the photos.

But the Swipe keyboard is phenomenal. One writes very quickly, does not make mistakes often, and intuitively prompts the next words.

Compared to the keyboard on my iPhone, it's a completely different league.

The battery also lasts a long time.
It seems to me that the brightening / dimming of the screen is too jumpy.

Swipe is really a good one. Never used Duo and have no intentions to cause Google always flip flops on their own messaging apps. Use Messages app instead and connect it to RCS, got to Settings at three vertical dots and then Chat Features. It then works like IM app. Viber makes money off ads, Whatsapp makes money off data mining and so on. We live in a world where we have to install few apps that do the exact same thing in order to get in touch with someone. Concept of - there's an app for that - has really backfired in IM department.

Thanks a lot, I'll check how it works later (I put the SIM card between the Xperia and the iPhone).

I was very critical of Sony after the first use. As I wrote before, it is a result of the fact that I cannot rationally justify such an expense in front of me :)

Viber has ads on iOS as well, so the argument is out.

I am more and more convinced of this phone and at the same time discourage from the iPhone and Apple in general. IPhone keyboard works badly and typing is annoying. It's even worse with autocorrect in my language :)

I also don't like the direction in which I think Apple is headed - no chargers, no communication ports, paid services ...

I was thinking about returning the Xperia and buying the 10 II - it's much cheaper, doesn't have a stereo speaker and has half the RAM. It also has a jack socket. Without any pain, I would also spend this much smaller amount of money, but won't this phone get old too quickly in 3 years?

I ride a bike and the phones have fallen out of the holder several times (how did my iPhone SE survive the fall to the asphalt almost intact ??).

If I had this on 5 II, I might not have lived it:

I was put off by the review of the photos taken on 10 II for the Xperia 10 II. I would prefer the photos to be at worst not worse than those from the iPhone 8.

Maaan. Sony really nailed it this year with these 2 flagships. Probably the best phones of 2020...
