I know I'm beating this horse to death but 4K on a phone this size is ridiculous. Can't wait to see real world reviews of the battery performance. If it can come anywhere close to the iPhone 6+ or even the Note 5, I'll be shocked.

All that being said, I'm very intrigued by the standard Z5.

To be honest the pixel density is so high in most smart phones these days that it's a pretty much useless feature, I would rather they refine the screens themselves In terms of blacks, whites, Brightness, Colours etc More than anything, Like samsung have been doing.

Not to mention the battery life.

This is wicked. Good on you Sony. Only thing that would concern me is the Snapdragon 810 trying to push all those pixels. Sorta reminds me when LG tried to push a 2K screen with the 801 and had overheating issues. Hopefully the 810 can handle 4k without those issues. Can't wait to see a 4K Amoled Note 6. You just know it's gonna happen.

That being said, hopefully people aren't so short sided and think 4K is overkill. It's not. VR is being pushed whether you like it or not, and anyone following VR would know 4K is absolutely necessary. The most common thing people say after viewing VR is that the image doesn't look as sharp as they would want. When 2K came, the difference was noticed immediately. But 4K VR is still not enough, it's believed 8K will be necessary to get rid of the pixelation in VR.

I agree about competition, especially when the "weaker" player has a better product than the "stronger" one.

In my opinion, anything greater than 1080p and 12 megapixels is overkill. There are other ways to improve displays and cameras than just resolution. But in this case, I'm cheering for Sony, so good for them for beating Samsung. Now they can't claim they were the first to have a 4K phone

Well this isn't good. Here's a pic of the Z5 at IFA. This isn't even the demanding 4K display of the Z5 Premium. It seems the 810 even on v2.1 still has overheating issues. OEMs should wait for the 820, that's the one meant for 4K.

Contrary to popular belief, Samsung never tries to be first to market for specs at the cost of performance. Just look at the GS5. It was rumored to have a 2K screen, but nope, no 2K screen. Sammy new the 801/Adreno 330 couldn't handle it. So they waited for the 805/Adreno 420 and released a 2k version of the S5 in their homeland. LG did a 2K in the G3 to claim to be first, and it was big problem with the 801. So being first is definitely not a Samsung thing if performance suffers. Padding the limits and being first is great, but never at the cost of quality.

Really, the 801/Adreno 330 was great in my Oppo Find 7(which was the first 2k display if I'm not mistaken)

That is due to the 4k recording isn't it so nothing to do with the display. Can you tell me what phone doesn't turn the camera off after a certain length of time when recording in 4k?

Btw the clue was actually written on the screen of the phone in the photo you posted.
