Do you already have those scratches?
Yes - purchased one used that was not handled with care (part of how I got a killer deal on it undoubtedly). It has a chip on the back right corner of the display and 3 scrapes on the right lower. The underlying aluminum is quite visible.

Other reason I like the Spigen case is the knit fabric material as it reminds me of my Lenovo 1st gen Duet that came with a similar sort of screen cover which has a bit of grip to it. I'm not a gamer. Internal temp generally hovers between 50-60 C (according to the awesome free app hot) so not concerned about excessive heat being a problem with a hard shell case attached.

Please keep us posted on how it fits, does / doesn't scratch the 'book, etc.
Fits well and not too bulky. The display shuts itself within 2-3" of the base now, due to the slightly heavier cover on it. The feet on the bottom are a bit less grippy than the feet on the base "in the buff". Took a few quick snaps for your viewing pleasure.

I'm going to give it a spin for a while and see if it does not annoy me heh

Note: it is $10 off today for Amazon Prime Day and 1 month return policy is in effect.

I have had numerous space grey Macs with no issues and switched to a 14" MBP in Space Black from SPace Grey and within a month could see wear and silver on the edges, after a horror show and missing paint with an old Razer blade 13 and poor resale value which cost me a lot of money I couldn't take the risk so bought some black nail polish to touch up the MBP and sold it.

Tried to convince myseelf Windows was the way forward and after nearly 5 grands worth of windows laptops in three months managed to get e killer deal on a 14" MBP max in silver and over the moon.

I will never touch a black anodised laptop again in my life, fine if you don't want to re-sell or happy to lose money but for me not worth the risk and like my stuff to look good

I've used winblows at work since version 2, in most places lol

Can't really complain in some respects as I've had an exceptionally successful career supporting & creating work-arounds for the monolithic enterprise nightmares they have created. I still much prefer *nix dns (using vi, from the command line to make changes) compared to GUI he-double-hockey-sticks version.

Current gig dealt me two of the latest annoying as all get out & decked out Dell XP$ clunky & chonky beasts.

At home, migrated to Pismo G3, Mac Cube (G4 power + 22" ADC display! lol)/desktop/iMac/laptop... exclusively when OS X came out and have never looked back. Silver or Space Gray are the way...

Saddest of all, if anodizing is done properly, it won't be so vulnerable to chips, dings and scratches. I have a large herd of Calphalon Commercial cookware from the 1990's. The anodized coating remains in tact on the cooking surfaces (some have dings on the rims from years of clunking around.

My launch day machine is still in perfect condition. I take care of it but am not overly protective and it's covered a lot of miles in that time, used on trains & planes... offices, coffee shops... different countries. Its been just as durable as any other Mac I've had in the last 30 years or so tbh.

My 2020 Space Gray 13" was also unscathed (already sold it) as were all prior Silver MBP's, MacBooks and prior Apple laptops that traveled with me coast to coast and around Europe quite often too. The new finish is more susceptible to damage in my opinion.

I acquired a roughly handled one my thought is to minimize further finish degradation. I sort of like the grippy feel of the skin as well. It doesn't add enough bulk to prevent sliding in and out of my old school & cool Waterfield (MBP 15") laptop tote bag.

I'm still liking the Spigen hard shell. My M3 14" runs ~1C hotter in clamshell mode with the case on than without.

Only real downside is stuffing both a personal Mac and klunky (work issued) Dell Lattitude into my Briggs & Riley bag takes a little more thought (especially when other compartments are stuffed to the gills).

The whole clamshell approach is another oddball but highly functional thing for me when using my MBP at my desk.

Hard shell cases are famous for scuffing your device.

That hasn't been the case in my experience with kid's MBPs from early 201x.

Both of them insisted on fancy/colorful hard shell cases and their MBP's ended up no worse for wear. Just popped the old big & heavy plastic skins of off one (A1278 from 2010)... the stock silver MBP aluminum exterior looks great after lots of "abuse". Still boots up happy as can be as well.

1st time for me to slap a hardshell on the Pro M3 14" because this new finish is not nearly as durable.

Seeing a lot of sweet refurb MBP 16" with Space black with decent config at a relatively modest price... Only worry I have is that the usb ports where you ding and insert the plugs/connectors may eventually wear out.

Anyone can share how that went well for you? For me personally my 16" is sitting at home for the most part with the occasional "out" travel on intensive photo/video shoots but for the most part it will be on the desk. [especially the space black color] as im hanging out for a decent refurb to come through. if not such a big deal i might pull the trigger otherwise priority is SIlver [less likely to scuff/show marks]

Contemplatead Mac Studio at some point for home use but rn it looks like this is the one.

Bought an Open Box one from Best Buy and it is in absolute perfect condition. No signs of defects or wear at all! Hope this is a good sign

Definitely and that's ok... other reason I like the shell is that it's far less slippery. Before I put it on, almost slipped out of my hands removing from my fancy Briggs & Riley bag and putting it on my desk at work a couple of times. I'm getting old so could be late Gen-X'er problem lol

Got a shell for mine because I use a metal stand on my desk from time to time and I don't want that making deep dents on the corners. I like that it doesn't seem like the shell is even there

I have put fishskyns on my Macbooks in the past. I like them. But this year I got the M3 Pro in Silver and that silver is too pretty to hide.
