If the space black finish comes to the MacBook Pro, it will be interesting to see how well it matches to the iPhone. Remember it will be more representative of what you see through the clear glass around the camera cluster than the frosted glass back. Ideally I'd prefer a true black finish. But you're right, this darker finish would be very tempting if comes to fruition. Although silver will forever be the classic look.

I'm quite ashamed to say that I would be tempted to trade in my 1 year old M1 MBP for a space black--depending upon how that color is actually implemented.
If the M3 gets Space Black but otherwise continues to use the same casing, you could always wait until someone throws their dead M3 on the market and harvest the shell. But then the trackpad would still be silver (or Space Gray) because of the new way the trackpad communicates with the logic board...
Disregard that. Or sell off the M1 and get a used M3. That would alleviate much of the environmental concerns about replacing your MBP so soon.

I don't see starlight replacing silver. But I've been wrong before!
I am fine with starlight being one of the options. But I would be pretty disappointed if they replaced silver with starlight. Silver is the classic apple color in my opinion and you can never go wrong with that color choice.

I'm probably replacing my M1 Pro 16" with either a M3 15" Air (if they decide to make those) or M3 Pro 16".
It wouldn't be a vital upgrade, but it doesn't hurt to increase the SSD and refresh the warranty coverage.
New colors would be a nice bonus but they wouldn't really influence my choice.

I'm not 100% sure they'll go for a space black vs. space grey but I'm sure many people would prefer the darker finish albeit without the fingerprint magnetism of the midnight MacBook Air.

That’s the problem. I think they walked the tight rope nicely with Space Gray, it’s darker than Silver yet still hides fingerprints well. If you go any darker then fingerprints will start to become an issue. Just look at the Midnight MBA.

We'll see what happens in about a month's time.

Not patting myself on the back here but space black is finally here. Only off by 1 generation. It seems like Apple may have been working on this awhile given their claim of a breakthrough new anodization process. I wonder if this was originally intended for the M1 Pro/Max MacBook Pro — but it just wasn't right yet by Apple standards so they held off.

The next questions arise are will the next iPad Pro come in space black? The high-end M3 Pro Mac mini? Mac Studio? Mac Pro? Studio display? I'm leaning towards yes for all of them.

It has been mentioned it’s more of a very dark, grayish black, not space black. When you look up in space, you see black not dark, gray
