I'm not happy with the price increase either :mad: I think 50 bucks is kinda steep for a case. 40 maybe...50 eh.

I'm tempted to buy a radtech Sleev instead. Does anyone think that the Speck hardcase kinda says "paranoid Macfanboi"? I really dig the protection, but am afraid of looking too silly. :eek:

These products are really nice, i am looking forward for the 17" model very much so.

EDIT - I wonder if the laptop will heat up more if i had this case on.

is it just me, or are they advertising MacBookPros as 13" MacBooks?

the DVI port, aluminium casing, button on the front, and express slot are a bit sus...

you would be correct, they seem to be using macbook pros in the images, and macbooks in the copy. Guess they haven't got the photographer down there yet for the new stock :p

However, it appears they DO have cases for the Core 2 Duo Macbook Pros as well, they just moved the page:

Having it on my 15" MBP gets a lot of looks from people. It's kind of cool, really. ;) It was $39.99 when I got it, which I was hesitant about spending but now that it's $50, it's too much for my smaller Macbook. :rolleyes: How protective are Radtech Sleeves anyway?

Cos..that one looks like it'll fall apart? :)

I think I will get one eventually..I found it cheaper on Buy.com for example, but they're backordered. Now I can't decide between red and clear. I love the red, but I already have a problem of getting called on in class too many times. If I'm the only one with a red laptop, I'll be a really obvious target. :p

Radtech sleeves are not very protective..mainly they prevent the MBP getting scratched up in your bag.

Interlaced, would you mind sharing how much thicker the Speck case makes the MBP? Does it kinda defeat the entire thin-n-slim thing the MBP has going on? :p

Well I ordered a clear one for the heck of it. I'm picky about keeping my stuff pristine, so we'll give it a shot. I'll let you know how it goes.


Hopefully they used a C2D macbook for the design... If theres any difference in the cooling ports, that is.

Unfortunately, Speck is not planning on makinga 17" model in the foreseeable future. Sorry.

I bought a CD version for my C2D Macbook Pro for $35 and "modded" it (basically, I cut away all the holes. Not as "clean" but works, and the most important parts (the top and bottom) are fully covered. Still looks cool too :)

Am3822 - IMHO that will REDUCE the cooling capability on the aluminum 15" MBP. The metal casing has a far greater heat transfer capacity than the polycarbonate material the specproducts case is made from. I'd much rather have a few scratches and lower temperatures than scratches on the polycarbonate and higher temps and over worked fans.

Care to post a pic? I'm interested in buying one of these (probably the C2D version, because I'm not too handy), but I'm concerned that the added thickness might make the laptop look cheesy.

I have seen them at the Apple Store but they only have them for the CD and not the C2D. I was also thinking of getting it and just customize the side where the Firewire 800 port is at. They are very thin and seems that it will not add much to your Mac, also they have plenty of openings for the heat to go out on the bottom.

Got my clear one for my 13"..

It came pre scratched :p but only visable at odd angles so I don't really care.
My main concern is the static electricity it seems to attract, but so far I've only been shocked twice.

Beyodn that, the case fits snug, it has some play but not enough to really notice. The cut outs for ports are well thought out and it doesnt seem to cook my MB at all, but I havent done thermal tests yet under a load with it on and off. Only other downside I see is it cuts off about 1/8th an inch of tilt for the screen, thickening the upper shell prevents it from folding back fully.

All in all, I think its worth it :)

the very last thing I want to do to my MBP is make it a larger machine by whacking more thickness onto the thing... forget that. If I wanted a boat anchor I would have bought a different laptop...

sleek and thin still wins for me. put it in a neoprene sleeve when not in use, or something

I'm definitely keeping the Speck shell in mind incase the BSE full body skin doesn't do the trick (scratch-wise, not drop-wise). I like both the clear and red...tempted to get the red cause I want to be unique :p

I emailed them about possible production of a 17" version, didn't get an answer yet. Anybody have more info about a 17"? I'd buy one!

Honestly, the shell is so thin you won't notice a thickness change to it.
I baught this over a MBP because I wanted portability, and the speck shell didnt change that :)

If by metal, you mean plastic ;) , then no, it doesnt interfere, signal strength never dropped anywhere in my house with the shell on...
