The recommendation is if you need to send the computer in to AppleCare, always remove third-party memory. Sometimes Apple does refuse to look at the computer if it has third-party memory. Oddly enough, Apple almost never balks at hard disks that were not shipped with the computer.

Thats a load of crap. Adding ram to an iMac is a DIY part.

They may try to BLAME your issues on 3rd party ram -- but adding 3rd party ram does not void any sort of AC agreement.

The glass screen isnt parchment thin that scratches if you just look at the wrong way. Its A LOT stronger than that. Lay it down on the carpet, it doesnt matter. Its not going to scratch.

Why spend $1500 on a computer only to cheap out by $5 on ram? Its like putting crappy tires on your $100,000 Porsche just to save $50. silly.

But I don't want to scratch my screen. Plus, compatibility issues do occur. Why not just get the RAM from Apple so as to avoid any incompatibility issues and the risk of scratching your screen by laying it face down (BTW -- could I not install the RAM without flipping it over. That is, just drag my iMac forward and bend down and unscrew it from below the monitor with the iMac sitting upright as per usual?).
How about this:

Instead of spending that $200 to upgrade to 8GB of RAM from Apple. Buy 16GB RAM from OWC for $200. No compatability issues.

Put down a soft towel thats large enough, lay it down, pull it in the RAM.
